Hi there. I removed your good faith report as I couldn't see any reason why the username was disruptive according to the username policy. Is there something I didn't see that motivated you to report it? I'm just wondering, honestly. :) ceranthor 23:49, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Hello. I'm just letting you know that I have deleted this page as WP:CSD#G10 (attack) and not WP:CSD#G1 as you had tagged it. Attack pages must be blanked, the G10 template will also place a special red alert on admin control panels for extra speedy deletion. For more details, please see WP:NPP and WP:CSD. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 06:44, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

LSUHSC

Hi, I am a researcher at LSUHSC and demand that the page on Facebook to have our emblem when reached. Due to logistics, the emblem on the original page is not visible on the Facebook "Community Page." For the aforementioned issue, it is necessary to include a logo on the "redirect" page, so that the abbreviated version of the page (which is our Community Page) showcases the emblem of the institution. Thank you for your cooperation.

How is it not?

Hi

Hi I noticed that you commented on my page. You said that Legolas was being harsh and added something that I don't understand at the end. As I cannot interpret this I also do not know if you are on my side or his. Do you think it is unreasonable for him to take down my page and the name of the tour out of GaGa's discography? Rollback Template

I saw on the Requests for Rollback page that you and Fastily were talking about how there was a need for a template and so I created Rollback not yet, it may need a few changes but I believe this is generally what was being requested there.  Adwiii  Talk  21:38, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

New...Born This Way Ball

What blue links? The ones Legolas gave me or are there others? Also the information was taken straight from an Australian newspaper who interviewed GaGa and put onto GaGapedia. Surley that is a good enough resource? Even if the page is only a stub, it can be expnaded upon by those more experienced than I am. Muthamonster (talk) 08:02, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

If the newspaper is used as a reference, can a stub page then be made on the tour? Muthamonster (talk) 05:54, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
How do I make the page without upsetting princess Legolas? Muthamonster (talk) 05:58, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
I have made a few changes to the page, is there any way I can send it to you to have a look and see what you think? Muthamonster (talk) 06:36, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
Click on the ref and it should come up. Sorry I'm still not really sure how to do it properly.([1]) Muthamonster (talk) 06:46, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
Nice to know :). There is also a picture of the rumoured promo poster but it is probably unreliable and I dont' know how to get it up there anyway. Thank you Muthamonster (talk) 06:52, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I wasn't game to put anything on here that isn't 100% reliable, proper & unrumoured. It do hope it is the proper one though cos it looks good. Muthamonster (talk) 06:57, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Yeah I'm just making a page on her chronology first then I'll put it in her discography. Muthamonster (talk) 07:04, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Regarding this

This, give him 10 minutes for what? Add more and more unsourced and fancruft content? Sorry but creating something when there is no confirmation of it is against Wikipedia policy whcih I'm sure you are aware of. He is free to do it in his sandbox. — Legolas (talk2me) 07:27, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

I'm not denying the source, I'm talking about the officiality of it. The source talks about Gaga's plans to tor Australia like Pink mainly, and doesnt say 100% that the tour's name is Born This Way Ball. The user is going on adding it in violation of WP:CRYSTAL. Thanks for trying to make him understand though. — Legolas (talk2me) 07:45, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: The Mouse That Ate The Cat

Hello Σ. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of The Mouse That Ate The Cat, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The article makes a credible assertion of importance or significance, sufficient to pass A7. Revert procedure?

Hi. I'm the guy with the revert to the Crossfit page. What exactly is the procedure? You said to use http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Uw-vandalism1 somehow with another link in there. Neither page has an explanation of how or where to use it - does it go on the IP address' talk page (the presumed vandal was just an IP address) or on the page that was vandalized or what exactly, and where can I find simple instructions on what to do when I need a procedure to deal with something that's wrong or a violation of what I think is wiki policy?? Why did the US hate communism?

In simple English, could you please explain why the USA thought communism was so dangerous? From my understanding communism was not being imposed on the USA, and i think communism simply means a harmless policy where goods are nationalized to benefit the whole community. Help!

{{helpme}}

If I expanded an article in an invisible comment over the course of over 5 days and removed the <!—> tags within the last 5 days, when would the article count as being expanded? Would it be eligible for DYK? --The Σ talkcontribs 03:39, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

(More specifically, Physics of the Future) --The Σ talkcontribs 03:40, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

As it stands now it's not eligible; DYKCheck returns the following:

  • Prose size (text only): 5388 characters (858 words) "readable prose size"
  • Article has a insufficient citations tag.
  • Article created by SkyMachine on May 24, 2011
  • Assuming article is at 5x now, expansion began 58 edits ago on May 24, 2011
  • Article has not been created or expanded 5x within the past 10 days (22 days)

--28bytes (talk) 03:56, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Also, you're probably better off asking DYK-related questions here rather than using a help template. You'll normally get a quicker answer that way. Cheers, 28bytes (talk) 03:57, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Edit to MotD page

? I don't see why a section like that would be even remotely necessary, but beside that, what you put there will run the part of it for reopening a nomination, which I doubt n IP would be doing. Am I missing something? ~~ Hi878 (Come shout at me!) 23:48, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

What's life like in a communist state?

Sigma - apologies for the delay in answering you (been away been on my hols, somewhere capitalist). Anyway, if you'd checked out my userpage a little more carefully, you'd have seen that in no place does it say I lived in the USSR. The flag-bit section is divided into lived, stayed, visited and the USSR is somewhere I stayed (which I define as being continuously in said country for longer than a holiday (say, more than 3 or 4 weeks) but not long enough to be actually living there (renting an apartment, opening accounts, maybe buying a car - you get the idea).

Anyway, I stayed in the USSR for 8 weeks in spring 1983 as part of an educational visit by a group of about 20 of us 16-18 year olds. We were nominally attached to LMSU and, later, Leningrad State but class time with the locals was with (carefully vetted Komsomol) students our own age. This was a rather daring experiment by the organisers, given Cold War tensions at time over the missile situation and the Afghan war) - it was during my stay that Regan made his infamous Evil empire speech - and was during the brief interregnum of Yuri Andropov. The uproar over the downing of KAL007 later that summer pretty much put an end to such programs at least for students at my end.

So I can only tell you what it was like to stay there but some here have lived in a Communist state and presumably could tell about it although mileage will vary according to individual experiences and perceptions. FWIW I enjoyed my stay even though I could never entirely shake the feeling of being creeped out . Plutonium27 (talk) 00:15, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

I have nominated Backyard Monsters for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Backyard Monsters. I appreciate the work you have spent crafting this article; however, I don't believe it passes Wikipedia:Notability and Wikipedia:Verifiability. Cunard (talk) 06:22, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Facebook and Youtube are not reliable sources - If I wanted to make a self-glorifying article on how I discovered Antarctica, discovered antimatter, built the first atomic weapon and detonated it successfully, I could set up an arbitrary number of them to serve my purpose. The main reason both are not reliable is because anyone can set one up. --The Σ talkcontribs 17:52, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

ok fine, anyone can set them up, but its the same with newspapers and magzines. anyone can set one up- sure it’s harder but doable. also, I can write anything in a newspaper or magazine- whose to say that what I’m saying is true or false. you can’t be sure that ANYTHING on newspapers and magazines are accurate. Answer that fo me ! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cecilia grace fan (talkcontribs) 17:55, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

The editors of the newspaper or magazine must read it through, fact-check, etc., if the company that produces the newspaper or magazine doesn't like the material (because they think it won't help sell the paper or some other reason) then they have the power to remove it, which is exactly what makes a newspaper verifiable. --The Σ talkcontribs 17:59, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

Those aren't sources enough, and if you read WP:SOURCES, or the links you provided, you will notice that none of them mention Cecilia. You can create it, but chances are it will be deleted again unless you can provide the answer to the two words that destroy articles: "Prove it". It's not a question on whether Cecilia is skilled or not, but whether you can prove what you say. And remmeber what I said about Facebook and other blog related things. --The Σ talkcontribs 17:51, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

You asked for a review of this draft article, and now that I'm settled in my new room I can give you one. Note that I'm not an expert on reviewing articles so my comments may not be correct - if you want a really detailed/severe review, ask the guys at WikiProject Video Games.

First of all, the general stuff. The secondary sources you've got should be enough to avoid deletion, but to seal it you should find some more. The article will also need categories - for now, put any relevant categories inside a hidden comment to hide them (<!-- like this -->). When the article is moved to mainspace, remove the hidden comment and the categories will appear.

Now, working from top to bottom, here are my comments:

  • The title should be "Backyard Monsters" to match the article subject. Note that BYM already exists as a disambiguation page, so you should add a link to your article there. That can be done when moving the article to mainspace.
  • {{Infobox video game}} will italicise titles by default, so you don't need the {{italic title}} template.
    • "Facebook" should probably be linked in the infobox.
  • The lead is two paragraphs long which is fine for the article's current size, but it may need to be fleshed out to summarise the article. As the article grows, keep checking the lead to ensure that it covers all the key points.
    • Phrases like "as of June 2011" can date quickly and should be avoided if possible. If you can't avoid them use the {{As of}} template to categorise them as such.
    • The reference for the number of players has no access date and really needs one, especially as the site updates its figures on a daily basis. You might do better with a stable reference that mentions the number of players/accounts, such as a review or news release.
    • In the second paragraph the article refers to a yard but doesn't state what that is, only saying that players can upgrade it, so the reader could be left wondering what that is. Sum up what a yard is in one sentence and you'll be fine.
  • The Gameplay section lead also mentions the yard but again doesn't give the reader any context, so describe what the yard is. The objective of the game could also be mentioned in the lead.
    • In the Resources section it notes that Shiny is spent on extras and can be bought using real-world currency. I personally would write it the other way around - "Shiny", the fifth optional resource, can be bought through online payment methods such as PayPal and Facebook Credits and spent on various in-game extras - and thus avoid using the word "various" twice. You might also want to link to microtransaction.
    • The article says that Shiny can be earned by completing offers - what are offers? Describe them briefly.
    • It probably doesn't need to mention how much Shiny is earned by completing the tutorial. (In fact you may want to remove that sentence entirely since it doesn't sound like a vital point.)
  • The Combat section has subsections for PvM and PvP combat, but these could probably all be merged into a single large section for the moment.
    • "Goo" was capitalised in the Resources section but not in this one. Which one is it?
    • The monsters can then be sent to another players yard - should be "player's".
    • The AI used by Backyard Monsters - AI should be written as "artificial intelligence" and linked.
    • Certain groups of wild monsters have their own backyards - "backyards" should be just "yards" for consistency.
    • Doing so causes attacks from the group to cease, and, like destroying a player yard, an outpost can be built on the location - it might be me but I don't like seeing all those commas in one sentence.
    • If a yard is over 50% destroyed, the player will be under 12 hours of "damage protection". - as written it sounds like the player themselves is protected. Change to "it will be" to be explicit.
    • 7 days of damage protection can be purchased with shiny every 14 days. "Shiny" should be capitalised for consistency. It's also repeating the word "days", but I'm not sure if writing it as "every fortnight" is better or not.
    • 14 days of protection are granted upon completion of the tutorial. - I don't know if this is really important.
  • The Reception section has subsections, which should be titled "Press reception" and "Player reception" without the capital Rs.
  • its lack of social interaction and complex interface. [4]. - there's two full stops there. The correct way is to write a full stop then a citation, with no space in between them, then a space and the next sentence.
    • The Player Reception section looks like it's using sources from forums, which are not reliable sources because forum threads can suddenly disappear. News releases are better if you can find them.
    • "7 Jan 2011" should be written as "7 January 2011".
    • A poll by Kixeye[7] showed that approximately half of the voters disliked the graphics change.[7] - the article's using the same source twice in one short sentence, so remove the first instance.
    • approximately half of the voters - should use a specific percentage, and mention the total number of voters for context. I notice that this poll is still open so the results could change, which reduces its reliability.

Phew, that was a lot of comments to write, but I hope they'll be useful as I'm sure this article could survive on mainspace. You can get further information from WPVG's article guidelines, which will help you structure and sort out good content. Overall it's not a bad start, and with some work could become a very good article. 1ForTheMoney (talk) 18:15, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your feedback. I also want to note that the developer posts release notices in the forum, and the threads can only be deleted by one of the administrators/moderators, of which there are only 4 (including the developer) who actually post on the forums and interact with the players. So my logic is that a news or update thread would not be deleted, as some sort of a record. --The Σ talkcontribs 03:19, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
Since I couldn't find any area of the website where news releases are posted other than the forums, I'll have to assume that's the case as well. Keep in mind that posts by users are not acceptable as sources (since they're user-generated), and that it is likely that other editors will revisit this issue in the future. 1ForTheMoney (talk) 08:30, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
About the offers for Shiny, they're those weird Super Rewards things where you take some random survey or download some random toolbar and get Shiny, though I don't know how to explain that. I've removed it entirely and I've taken most of your advice. Can you check it again? --The Σ talkcontribs 05:53, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
I'm not sure how to explain that either, and I can't relate to it as I don't use Facebook, but I assume that these surveys and toolbars are offered by the website or its users. You could just say something along the lines of "Shiny can also be acquired by completing surveys on the Facebook website" and attributing that to a source. As for a second review, I'll deal with that on a seperate section for readability. 1ForTheMoney (talk) 11:03, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Second pass

It looks as if the article is coming along nicely. I've run through the article again and spotted some more pointers to make. Again, I'll start with general things and then move on to a top-to-bottom review.

  • First, make sure that citations are filled out as completely as possible - include authors, publishers, dates and access dates where possible. References 1 to 4 appear to be just URLs with titles, and 5 to 7 have only an access date.
  • Reference 1 (the game's page on Facebook) is giving me all kinds of problems. You're using it heavily but I'm finding it difficult to verify most of the points it references, mostly because the Wall and comments sections change so quickly. Again, stable references that won't change are much better here.
  • The categories are good, but make them as specific as possible - for example, "2001 video games" is better than just "video games". Check each category to see its sub-categories and choose the most appropriate ones.

Now, a review from top to bottom:

  • Infobox is looking fine but there are a few points to make, mostly about parameters and consistency.
    • The release date needs to be included in the lead.
    • The infobox describes the genre as RPG, but in the lead it is described as an RTS. Which one is it?
    • {{Infobox video game}} doesn't have a "levels" field so that line isn't being displayed. If they're requirements, add them to the "requirements" field.
    • This infobox doesn't have a field for websites so that can be removed.
  • Lead is looking fine for the moment, just a couple of points to make there.
    • developed by Kixeye - should be "developed and published by Kixeye" to match the infobox.
    • by sending messages - could change to "by exchanging messages" to imply that players receive messages as well as sending them. That's a personal point, really.
  • The Gameplay section seems to have changed quite a bit, so I'll make plenty of comments on its sub-sections.
    • Second paragraph of Resources is just a single sentence. One-sentence paragraphs are bad, but in this case you can't really merge it anywhere, so look for other sources to flesh it out.
    • The Combat section has been merged into a single big section which is good, although it now looks huge compared to other sections. I expected that to happen, but expanding other sections and merging paragraphs will solve that.
    • Players in Backyard Monsters can attack other players with a number of "monsters" which can be created by spending Goo in a "hatchery". The monsters can then be sent to another player's yard with the "flinger", where they will destroy structures until they are killed by defensive towers. Monsters can be strengthened by educating them in the "monster academy" or modifying them in the "monster lab". - I'd swap the last two sentences and then merge the second paragraph into this one, because mentioning defensive towers and then waiting to describe them leaves the reader hanging.
    • Paragraphs 3 and 4 can be merged because they both talk about wild monsters.
    • and determines where the weakest point is - I would assume that it's the yard's defences that have weak points. Change to something like "and determines weak points in the yard's defences."
    • Paragraph 5 can be merged into paragraph 1 since you've already mentioned sending monsters to attack other players.
    • it will be under 12 hours of "damage protection". The yard cannot be attacked - I'd change the full stop to ", during which" in order to combine the sentences, but that might make it too long. I'll leave this one to you.
    • Not sure whether "fortnight" needs to be linked or not.
  • Reception section is just about fine. Only point to make is that the sentence about the opinion pool should use an {{as of}} template.

Aside from the sourcing issues, the article's just about there. If you fix that and expand the sections appropriately, the article should be a high Start-class or a low C-class. 1ForTheMoney (talk) 11:03, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

I never knew what a fortnight was until I saw its article, so I linked it in case some other people didn't either. More cleaning still to come. --The Σ talkcontribs 03:28, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Fair enough, I guessed that "fortnight" was one of those odd words that some take for granted and others can't understand. As for sources, I'm digging through some software/game websites to find articles discussing BYM, but I'm not having much luck.
I considered that first reference when searching on my initial attempt, but my reasons for deciding against it in the end were: 1) It provides an image of a well-defended yard, which could be used for copying by uncreative people ,(Ok, that's a bad reason, but still...) and 2) Only 3 or 4 paragraphs in that source are about the game, and the rest are about the company and other stuff. I'll use this to reinforce the part about the graphics change (as was stated in the reference's 2nd paragraph) and maybe create a "Development" section? --The Σ talkcontribs 19:07, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
A good-quality VG article will have some sort of History/Development section so creating one now or in the future is desirable. I would agree that first source is not great, but not much is turning up. I guess that's part of the problem with Facebook games - there's so many of them, one would have to go to great lengths to get media attention. 1ForTheMoney (talk) 19:25, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Ok, I updated it. What do you think now? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Σ (talkcontribs)
Aside from the "Holiday Event" section which (at this point) doesn't seem that noteworthy, plus it's just a single sentence, I think you're almost there. If you want, I can finish filling out the references for you - some are still missing some info. 1ForTheMoney (talk) 09:51, 20 June 2011 (UTC)
(Feels stupid for not signing) If you want. --The Σ talkcontribs 21:57, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Alright, I've filled them out by referring to the article history for access dates. I noticed that reference 3 (the Playthisthing review) was written by someone called "the99th", which suggests it might be user-contributed. Not a big deal right now, but you may find that some editors will question its reliability as a source. 1ForTheMoney (talk) 23:28, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Thank you, I greatly appreciate it. Is it safe to move to mainspace? And are there any interesting DYK-able facts? --The Σ talkcontribs 01:28, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
I think it's probably ready for mainspace now, yes. As for DYK, I've never written an article and so have never dealt with them, but the game's objective (defending the Town Hall from enemies) looks like a fairly unique and sourced fact. 1ForTheMoney (talk) 10:22, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
I have failed you. Sorry. --The Σ talkcontribs 07:05, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
As expected, the sources let it down. Ah well, put it back in your userspace and perhaps we'll work on it some other time. 1ForTheMoney (talk) 11:19, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
What do I do with the image? And should move it now or wait for the AFD to be finished? --The Σ talkcontribs 20:07, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
Obviously you can't have the image in a userspace draft because that violates WP:NFCC, and since it's not being used anywhere else it can be speedy-deleted once you remove it (although that process takes 7 days). As for the article, I think the best way to proceed would be to note on the AFD or on Cunard's talk page that you want it to be userfied, so it can be moved back to your userspace - this preserves the article history. 1ForTheMoney (talk) 21:28, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

OK. At least I know that my other draft can't get deleted when I move it. --The Σ talkcontribs 22:06, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Btw, you are closing some of the mottos too early. Remember generally they have to be older than 14 days from the original timestamp or when they were relisted. Simply south...... digging mountains for 5 years 10:48, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
