Hello, Xalqayan! Thanks for your work on Indo-European vocabulary. As mentioned in the talk page, the languages that are listed in this table (except for English, which is a special case) need to be the oldest well-documented language(s) in a given language family (i.e. Avestan and Old Persian, rather than Modern Persian), and the words listed need to be cognates to the Proto-Indo-European roots given (e.g. not words like "Pesar", which cannot be cognate with a root "su-"). I'd appreciate it if you could fix up the Persian column appropriately. Thanks, Benwing (talk) 01:57, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Hello,Benwing, Modern Persian words that I added to the list is cognate to the PIE root in first column. However all of words on that column was not my work. I will try to add Avestan or old Persian words to this list. Thanks Khaleghian

Thanks for doing this! Sorry to have gotten your name wrong, I was just guessing based on my knowledge of Arabic. One suggestion: Use the transliteration system under Avestan#Phonology, e.g. š instead of sh. Benwing (talk) 13:21, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Hmmm, I'd have to think about that. I'm kind of reluctant to have something like that because it would add further clutter. The question is, should we also add modern Hindi, Russian, Greek, French/Spanish/Italian/etc. words? Would that end up helping or just cluttering? It might make more sense to put the modern Persian words in the Persian wikipedia equivalent. Benwing (talk) 08:41, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Avestan

Careful with your additions -- I found lots and lots of errors in the words you added. Also you seem to be pretty systematically leaving out accent marks, which are critical for correct reading in Avestan. I've only gone through maybe 40% of your additions; you need to review the rest carefully with a copy of Pokorny in front of you, and make sure you get the accents and such right. Ahhh ... that's the problem. Don't use that resource, as it doesn't show accent marks and converts shwa to 'e' and has lots of other problems. Use the online Pokorny resource at [1]. If the accented characters get mangled, select "Change viewing parameters" at the top and set the output encoding to UTF-8. Benwing (talk) 23:55, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
