Thumbnail bio

[edit]

Hi, I'm helping out for The Signpost. Just a quick note that when submissions are published by The Signpost (if accepted by the editor-in-chief), we like to include a little info about the author. Since your user page is blank, it's hard to tell much about you, other than what you said in the article – that you consider yourself fluent in English and Chinese. Of course it's up to you how much to disclose, but it might make it easier on the reader I'd there's a little more than that offered. ☆ Bri (talk) 19:22, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Bri: Thanks Bri, do you have some samples of "info about the author" that I can look at so that I know what to put for this section? Many thanks. 不爱思考得猪 (talk) 19:33, 23 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Here are some examples.
I hope one of these gives some inspiration. ☆ Bri (talk) 02:02, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Bri: Many thanks. I've added a info about the author/thumbnail bio to my op-ed piece. 不爱思考得猪 (talk) 02:52, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved this to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Next issue/Community view and tentatively changed the title and blurb. I may move it to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Next issue/Op-ed later, but there's another article that I might want to put there instead. I'll be editing your article to fit our style and shorten it slightly. Please check back on Wednesday to make sure that I didn;t change your ideas. Please excuse my tardiness in accepting this. Smallbones(smalltalk) 04:27, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much Editor in Chief! Feel free to change the article however you like and put it in whichever section of the next issue of the Signpost as you see fit. I will check back on Wednesday but I'm sure it will be looking good in the upcoming issue of Signpost. With respect to the tardiness: it is I who should apologize to you for the tardiness in bringing my piece to your attention, due to me repeatedly reading it over to iron out any bugs (out of my perfectionistic tendencies ;-) prior to submission. 不爱思考得猪 (talk) 14:29, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Please check the submission now. Essentially, I just shortened it a bit, sentence by sentence. I was concerned however about the last paragraph - it was too aggressive. I changed it but it might still be too aggressive. My other suggestion would be to just leave that paragraph out. Smallbones(smalltalk) 18:55, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Looks beautiful! Last paragraph removed. 不爱思考得猪 (talk) 20:41, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your username

[edit]

I know that wordplay is an essential part of Zhongwen, can you help me with something? I machine translated your username to "[I] don't like to think about pigs". Is this a valid alternative translation? – ☆ Bri (talk) 22:59, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Bri: Haha, many apologies, any wordplay in the case of my username is most unintentional. I used the wrong preposition (fifth character) at the time of the creation of my username, which resulted in the funny translation. It should be "a pig that does not like to think", but my incorrect use of the preposition 得 instead of the correct preposition 的 (both pronounced the same way -- "de") results in the totally off-kilter translation "[I] don't like to think about [gaining] pigs". Given the number of homophones in the Chinese language, this is something that often happens when we use the Pinyin input system, which is the standard romanization scheme for Chinese characters. Many apologies. It should be "a pig that does not like to think" as I was born in the year of the pig. 不爱思考得猪 (talk) 03:08, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
