Electro house

Hi, I noticed that you added the alternate name "synth house" to the electro house page. I've been interested in electro house for a few years and done research on the topic, but I've never come across the phrase "synth house" before. Hey lol! I'm a huge fan too! I've been doing research for the composition of Katy's "Firework", and MTV said that it had a "synth house beat" and went on to compare it to Calvin Harris. Genres

Hi CA! You've guys have done an incredible job on the album's article. I'm not trying to cause problems, but some of the wikilinks for genre were really out there. Especially just assuming some genres are another genre re-named. That's kind of taking liberties with the meanings. Otherwise I urge you to keep working at the album's content and articles. I think the previous genre discussion above also suggests you are changing genres around. It's best to keep it simple, don't you agree? If you can't find a definition of a genre, then perhaps don't wikilink it like that. Keep up the great work with all the other aspects of that article though. Stas Dance and Dance

Personally I would leave it out as the other genres sort of exemplify that it's a "dance" oriented kind of music. My main thought pattern before adding something is I ask myself "would adding this make the user understand what this article is about any more than something else?". In this case, I'd lean towards it wouldn't. I'd ust make sure the sources call it that kind of music and not just incorporating it or something. Hope that helps. My concern is that the album was only released a few days ago, and it might be a little early to put the song up for GA. I would suggest withdrawing the review for a little bit to see if/how the song may impact songs charts, because you would need to create a "commercial performance" section for that information. After we see how that plays out, then I would recommend you renominating the article and I'd be more than happy to review it!(: Other than that, the article looks to be in good shape, though I will point out that only printed works need to be italicized in the references. Notability

The South Korea chart you keep using isn't exactly a notable one, though. It's not based on info amount- it has to do more with impact that Wikipedia standards are concerned about. I'm sorry, but most of the Prism songs fail WP:NSONGS as @BlueMoonset: explained on his talk page. See that for detail. You keep bringing up impact yet no one has agreed with you on that, there are no rules about impact, in YOUR personal opinion, a song needs to have an impact on the artists career to be an article. Using your logic, every song on Prism has sold thousands of copies in one of the biggest countries in the world, and managed to chart on it's most prestigious chart, therefore having an impact in that country. And yes, articles are COMPLETELY based off of information available, that's one of the basic things about Wikipedia. Articles that have very little information on them don't get created. "Impact" is a term I use to refer to "significance" or "notability". Per the standards at WP:NSONGS, lots of song articles created fail notability. It's not based on my personal opinion, though. I was saying that the amount of information isn't the problem. The problem is notability level. The chart isn't regarded as notable since it doesn't make headlines or anything. From a Western standpoint, sure the chart may have little significance, but in South Korea, this is their Billboard Hot 100, and is always in the news. Per the explanation @BlueMoonset: gave on the "AFD" section on his talk page to @Prism:. To quote him:
"What it comes down to here, as it does with all songs (in this case), is what makes a song notable by itself: Is it very popular, is it unusual in a way that makes a wide number of people talk about it especially, do a large number of artists cover it, and so on. WP:NSONG is very specific about song notability. By the very nature of things, not every song on an album is going to be notable, regardless of how famous the artist is, or how famous the album is. The whole idea of notability is that it isn't inheritable. I have seen song articles become GAs and then be deleted entirely a couple of weeks later: an article can be quite well written and sourced, and have a bunch of information, yet be about someone or something that simply isn't notable by Wikipedia standards. Having read both "Double Rainbow" and "Choose Your Dreams", I don't see that either song is notable, but I realize that my view, though backed up by the WP:NSONG criteria, may not prevail. I've seen this with other artists and albums, and if they come through DYK where I am active, I will point out notability issues, and start AfDs where appropriate."
He also mentions "It's never fun to have your work undone, but if you continue to work on songs that Wikipedia standards say aren't notable, you should be prepared for this to happen again."
Also, chart isn't based on location. If a song only charted in the United States or Canada without charting anywhere else, it wouldn't exactly be notable either. XXSNUGGUMSXX (talk) 22:56, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
At the end of the day, that user is just a user, not a moderator or an admin, his opinion does not mean the final say. "Choose Your Battles" meets these guidelines, and trying to get it deleted could be seen as a personal bias towards that member, as it has already passed notability. I've just posted to the AfD. Basically, (CA)Giacobbe, you're making a fundamental misinterpretation of WP:NSONG. If an article fails to meet the criteria for notability, it's non-notable. No ifs, ands, or buts. When it goes on to quote the bit about "Notability aside, a standalone article is only appropriate", it's saying that even if the song might be notable, the article should only be written if there's enough material for one. So notability is a requirement if an article is to be written, but it isn't the only one. Notability is never optional, and for this article, at least, it isn't met. So far, there isn't any Keep in the AfD that convincingly says the song is notable. Ultimately, the count for and against isn't what guides the person closing an AfD, it's the cogency of the arguments behind each position. I should also point out that last year's revision to WP:NSONG explicitly points out that charting may be evidence of notability, but only if certain other criteria are met first, something Choose Your Battles does not do. Credits question

Giacobbe, I've noticed on multiple song articles you rearranging the orders of writers/producers involved to the order booklets list them. I can't help but wonder: what exactly is significant about the order in which such people are listed? XXSNUGGUMSXX (talk) 18:55, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

The order in which writers/producers are listed represent their contribution. Katy Perry for example is listed as lead co-writer for all her songs because she herself did the majority of the writing, followed by the the rest of the co-writers depending on how much they contributed. Same thing goes for producers. For example with Lady Gaga on Artpop, Paul "DJ White Shadow" Blair was the lead producer on nearly every song (meaning he produced the majority of the song), then Gaga as the second (meaning she was still a co-producer, but did less work). Sorry for lurking, but while you're correct in most of your comment, Katy is almost never the writer who does most of the job per se; the booklets however always list her first. Wikipedia should actually use ASCAP as a reference because there the performers are also in the accurate order. Prism △ 21:17, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
There has certainly been controversy surrounding the placement of writers in booklets, such as with Beyonce and Britney Spears for examples, but ASCAP has also proven to have its flaws (It's credits for "Part of Me" don't even show Perry as a co-writer), generally the most reliable source (even if not always right) is the album booklet. I've been keeping a close watch, and so far not yet. Keep in mind that Zanimum is also busy reviewing many other articles for GA. On another note, I've been working on Katy's main article for a while trying to get it back up to GA. I'm planning to co-nominate it with Samjohnzon, who also deserves much of the credit for improving the article. The two of us are also hoping to get this to FA later on, and have it be the "Today's featured article" on October 25th for her 30th birthday. How does that sound?
