May 2023[edit]

Hello, I'm Felida97. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to The Boss (band) because they seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Hello. The link I added is for the group members' YouTube account, which is a live one (which you can confirm if you check the content - both that it is created by them and currently updated regularly). Arguably this is more relevant now than the other two links that still show on the Wikipedia page - the Japanese one seems to be broken, and the Open World one doesn't have any recent content - so can you please restore the link. 195.213.161.26 (talk) 20:47, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thank you for your message. I obviously looked at the link before making the revert and it did not look like an official account to me (mostly because of the different name, but also because of the low subscriber count and the fact that it's not verified). With your explanation, I see that it is not as unrelated as I originally thought, so I'm sorry if the message above came across wrong/too harsh. As you said, it is the YouTube account of the group members (or at least, they're in the videos and seem to be behind the channel). However, I find it debatable whether it is the official YouTube channel of the band (keep in mind that the Wikipedia article is about the band, i.e. the group collectively in their role as a band, not just the band members) and whether it qualifies as an "official link" that could be included in the "External links" section (see WP:ELNO and WP:ELOFFICIAL). For "official links" there is the requirement that "[t]he linked content primarily covers the area for which the subject of the article is notable" (i.e. the band and their music) and with the five videos currently uploaded, the channel doesn't meet that requirement imo, as the videos seem closer to standard YouTuber content than their music (though they talk about fans and fan meetings). Therefore, I won't re-add the link for now. Regarding the other links: you're right, those are not good, I have removed both, thanks for bringing that up! Hello; and thank you for the detailed reply. As far as I am aware (not speaking Korean myself) that is currently the group's official YouTube channel. They have effectively been dormant for the past 10 years or so, but recently featured in a 'group survival' show, Peak Time (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peak_Time), which helped to raise their profile again. Due to some controversy (not justified in my opinion, but then I don't live in Korea) they left/were forced to leave in the final round of the show, but hoping to still make a go of it launched their members' channel, which is why there are only a few videos on that so far. Can you please add the link back on that basis?
I would also say that Open World one should be added back too, given that that it at least provides links for the group's past music videos, which would be the most recent ones available (other than the ones recorded for Peak Time, but which they presumably would not have any direct links to). 195.213.161.26 (talk) 18:46, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Felida97 P.S. Just saw your message on your talk page, so am including the notification here. 195.213.161.26 (talk) 18:47, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Notification worked great, thanks! Unfortunately, your point about the TV appearance doesn't change the fact that the videos/channel don't/doesn't primarily cover their music (i.e. "the area for which the subject of the article is notable") afaict and, therefore, the link doesn't meet the requirements of an "official external link" atm (that might change over time at which point it could be added). Regarding the Open World link: I don't know if you saw my edit summary but I removed it because it's a link to a YouTube channel of a label (not the band) and the band hasn't been associated with Open World Entertainment since 2012. The link also doesn't meet the other requirement of an official link as the linked content is no longer "controlled by the subject (organization or individual person) of the Wikipedia article" (see WP:ELOFFICIAL), I think. (Side note: the purpose of the external links on Wikipedia is not to help readers find the band's music videos.) If the band indeed is starting a comeback, maybe they will create an actual official website or focus more on their music in their YouTube videos at some point in the future. But for now, I couldn't find any external links that comply with the external link guideline (see WP:EL) and could thus be added to the article. If you find any other websites complying with this guideline that you think could be added, let me know. Felida97 (talk) 19:30, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Felida97 OK, will try contacting them (not sure how far I will get with the language barrier) to see if they can add music videos and/or provide an official website. 195.213.161.26 (talk) 09:35, 11 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good! Felida97 (talk) 17:18, 11 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
