September 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm BilCat. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, it's important to be mindful of the feelings of your fellow editors, who may be frustrated by certain types of interaction, such as your addition to User talk:Squared.Circle.Boxing. While you probably didn't intend any offense, please do remember that Wikipedia strives to be an inclusive atmosphere. In light of that, it would be greatly appreciated if you could moderate yourself so as not to offend. No WP:GRAVEDANCING BilCat (talk) 01:06, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Gee, a mild eye-roll at bigotry gets reverted by someone whose userpage includes a sarcastic anti-trans section? Quelle surprise. 2600:1700:87D3:3460:D411:F92B:3175:926A (talk) 01:13, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • It's sarcasm about language, not anti-trans. It's silly for people to think "menstration" should be changed because it has "men" in it. Doesn't make me a misogynist for saying it. Language can get very absurd sometimes, especially English. We drive on parkways, and park on drive ways, after all! BilCat (talk) 01:32, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If it's solely sarcasm about language, then my apologies. I agree that efforts to change words like "person" and "human" are silly — but that's also something that virtually nobody (outside of the occasional well-meaning but deeply naive teenager on Tumblr) actually believes or advocates for. So, going out of one's way in the year 2023 to include a section like that on a user page comes off first and foremost as an indicator of anti-trans views. Whether or not that's the intent.
Provided that's not the intent, I'm sorry for not AGF. Being trans on the internet necessitates an added degree of wariness for dogwhistles. Even when said wariness proves unwarranted. 2600:1700:87D3:3460:D411:F92B:3175:926A (talk) 01:46, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It was grave dancing. Don't do it. BilCat (talk) 01:16, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, yes, all IPs are evil. I saw the userbox. Feel free to check my /64's contribs, which include posts where I note that I've only ever had one actual account on here, and it was at the age of 9. 2600:1700:87D3:3460:D411:F92B:3175:926A (talk) 01:18, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've never said nor implied that all IPs are evil. It's just a stupid idea to allow IP editing in any form, primarily for safety reasons. BilCat (talk) 01:22, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hopefully the (eventual) introduction of temporary accounts will temper some of the safety concerns. 2600:1700:87D3:3460:D411:F92B:3175:926A (talk) 01:26, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It'll just make sock puppetry even easier. The Wikipedias that have gone to registered only editing are much better for it. If Polish was an easy language to learn, I'd start editing there. BilCat (talk) 01:28, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah — on the whole I disagree with mandatory registration (shocker!), but I definitely get the arguments for it. 2600:1700:87D3:3460:D411:F92B:3175:926A (talk) 01:32, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. And I sorry for not assuming good faith. BilCat (talk) 01:37, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you were a registered user, you would have received a WP:Thanks for for this. I give out a lot of them, but IPs can't get them because it only works for registered users. BilCat (talk) 01:42, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks appreciated and returned in kind. 2600:1700:87D3:3460:D411:F92B:3175:926A (talk) 01:46, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
2600 etc. while I agree it was grave-dancing I think given the extreme and utterly crass nature of the user’s hate speech the reaction was completely understandable. Thank you for reporting their talk page abuse. Dronebogus (talk) 06:10, 2 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
