Question about Deletion Code G12[edit]

{{helpme}} Hi, this morning I posted to the site a new article that was quickly deleted. The administrator cited "G12: Unambiguous Copyright Infringement." I did use several direct quotations from print publications, but I provided references for each. Does Wikipedia have specific restrictions on the use of direct quotations?

I'll leave the template in case someone can give more specific help, but WP:Plagiarism and WP:FAQ/Copyright would be worth reading. JohnCD (talk) 18:53, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Copyright infringements means you usually have big chunks of information that you have copy and pasted. On Wikipedia, we need you to put it in your own words, and cite where you got it from. Usually the admin lists the cite that has the text you have copy & pasted. For more info see WP:Copyright & WP:Copyvio & some of the above links. Let me know if you need anymore help. -- /MWOAP|Notify Me\ 18:57, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your article[edit]

Hello and thank you for the very nice note. It is in fact OK to use short quotes when describing a subject, but the article looked to me as if it were mostly cribbed from the other source rather than merely borrowing from it. Let me take a look at it in the deletion log...--PMDrive1061 (talk) 15:31, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • OK, I'm back and I see the problem. It's true that you did in fact cite the segments, but they were taken directly from the website. Best thing to do in a situation such as this is to start from scratch with original text which cites that official website. Hope this helps and please don't hesitate to ask me for help. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 15:34, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
