2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 collage pictures

[edit]

I'm already made a collage for 2000, here's my candidates for collages from 2001 to 2004

2001 - 9-11, War on terror, Wikipedia, 2001 United Kingdom foot-and-mouth outbreak

2002 - The Euro, 2002 Winter Olympics, East Timor independence, Death and funeral of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother,

2003 - Space Shuttle Columbia disaster, Iraq War, Top Thrill Dragster, 4chan,

2004 - Facebook, 2004 Haitian coup d'état, 2004 transit of Venus, 2004 Summer Olympics, 2004 Sinai bombings, Taipei 101

also if there were any thoughts for other collages from the other years

@The ganymedian:, @Wjfox2005:, @PaulRKil:, @Jim Michael 2:, @InvadingInvader:, and @MrMimikyu1998:. what are your thoughts and you have any image recommendation for collage pictures from 2001-2004 4me689 (talk) 01:50, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@The ganymedian: for 2004 here's the finalized one in my opinion
also I forgot to Ping @TheScrubby: 4me689 (talk) 02:20, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian: for 2004 here's the finalized one in my opinion
2004 - Facebook, 2004 Haitian coup d'état, 2004 transit of Venus, 2004 Summer Olympics, 2004 Madrid train bombings, Taipei 101, Asian tsunami of 2004, 2004 enlargement of the European Union. 4me689 (talk) 17:51, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@4me689 Would it be possible to add the 2000 ball drop in Times Square to the collage? The ganymedian (talk) 02:32, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
that would be a great idea, this picture is the best one to use 4me689 (talk) 16:32, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian: can we add the 2012 Benghazi attack to the 2012 collage and make it the 8th image 4me689 (talk) 01:30, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My paint.net is malfunctioning and crashes every time I try to save a collage. I will keep trying The ganymedian (talk) 02:39, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
All of these are fantastic, I'd recommend adding in the Sinking of the MV Sewol in 2014 and maybe something related to Julian Assange/Wikileaks in either 2016 or 2017. PaulRKil (talk) 21:15, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
All collages 2000, 2001, 2005-2022 now match in format The ganymedian (talk) 03:52, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
2003 is now uploaded @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 02:16, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Asian tsunami of 2004 clearly deserves a mention. Wjfox2005 (talk) 13:28, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

agreed, I would preferably use this picture 4me689 (talk) 16:21, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami should certainly be included. By any measure it was by far the world's worst disaster of the 2000s. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 16:43, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
2004 Collage uploaded The ganymedian (talk) 20:13, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In 2004 I think there should have been a photo of the tsunami in Asia and the bombings in Madrid. And in 205, without a doubt, a photo of the funeral of John Paul II is missing. _-_Alsor (talk) 15:51, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, 2004 should include the 2004 Madrid train bombings rather than the 2004 Sinai bombings. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 16:43, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
and perhaps also add 2004 enlargement of the European Union. _-_Alsor (talk) 17:38, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The opening of Top Thrill Dragster & the launching of 4chan are nowhere near important enough for the collage. They're not even important enough to be on 2003. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 16:43, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Will add to my list of collages to fix (05). Thanks @Jim Michael 2 The ganymedian (talk) 20:21, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Jim Michael 2: have any ideas for the 2003 collage. 4me689 (talk) 20:45, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Many of the important events of 2003 relate to the Iraq War. Some that don't include the Antwerp diamond heist & the Daegu subway fire. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 22:54, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

90's collages

[edit]

@The ganymedian: and @Wjfox2005:, should we do collages for years in the 1990's. so far we've only did years in the 21st century, I should argue that that the 90's had pretty dramatic years in it. 4me689 (talk) 16:28, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@The ganymedian:, you mine adding collages to each year of the 90s. also you mine adding an image collage to the 2022 in the United States article. 4me689 (talk) 01:32, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. Do you think the Human Genome Project should be included in 1990? @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 01:34, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian:, sure. 4me689 (talk) 01:35, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Should we do the 1980s too? Will be a little more difficult to find events so maybe we don't need as many pictures for those if we decide The ganymedian (talk) 01:42, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
sure, I'm open to the possibility of that. 4me689 (talk) 01:53, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Happy to announce that all ten of the 1990s photo collages have been completed! @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 07:12, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
yay 4me689 (talk) 07:14, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think we probably can, but maybe not as many images in them The ganymedian (talk) 16:41, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Permission

[edit]

@4me689 Do I have permission to add the ball drop to the 2000 collage and maybe another photo to make it 8? I will also make some drafts of 01, 02, 03, and 04. I just uploaded a collage for 2007. The ganymedian (talk) 22:12, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes 100% you have my permission. 4me689 (talk) 22:44, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2001

[edit]

@4me689 Here are my 8 picks for 2001 collage: 9/11, War on Terror, Wikipedia, George Bush 9/11 speech, AA 587, Foot+Mouth, Enron, Gujarat quake. What are your thoughts? The ganymedian (talk) 22:17, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@The ganymedian: they look like great candidates. 4me689 (talk) 23:04, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Do you think I should do the launch of iTunes instead of AA 587? @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 00:51, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian: yeah kind of a better pick 4me689 (talk) 01:14, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There are no iTunes logos without a checkered background that I see on Wikipedia commons. I will choose the iPod instead and just include iTunes in the description. @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 01:18, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps a photo of the collage should be replaced by one relating to the Nepalese royal massacre. A monarch and part of the royal family killed by a prince, and an event that led to the fall of the monarchy years later, I think it's quite notorious. _-_Alsor (talk) 16:04, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just placed this picture in. Let me know what you think/ @Alsor The ganymedian (talk) 18:48, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

the eighth picture on the 2009 collage

[edit]

I'm curious we have any candidates for a 8th image on the 2009 collage, cuz we I really need to format it so all the years have eight images in their collages, 4me689 (talk) 23:50, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't seem to find any notable ones when I made it. If you find one let me know. 12 and 13 only have 7 as well. @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 00:21, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian: what about the 2009 Iranian presidential election protests is that a good candidate. 4me689 (talk) 01:22, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
also you mind updating the 1990 collage to an image collage 4me689 (talk) 01:33, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@4me689 Yes, I will add that to my list The ganymedian (talk) 02:00, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
2009 collage has been updated The ganymedian (talk) 05:51, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2012

[edit]

My last image candidates for the 2012 collage are : Queen's Diamond Jubilee, Voyager I crossing the heliopause, Mayan Calander. Couldn't really find pictures for benghazi. What are your thoughts @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 00:13, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@The ganymedian:, in my opinion it should be the Mayan Calander. 4me689 (talk) 00:15, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
2012 collage has been updated The ganymedian (talk) 03:16, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2000

[edit]

What should the 8th picture be? I tried looking for Air France Concorde crash but the only good picture is copyright and I am not sure if I can use it. Any ideas? @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 00:33, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Or should I use a general picture of a Concorde and just explain the crash in the caption? The ganymedian (talk) 00:34, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think I will do that actually The ganymedian (talk) 00:45, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Would you mind putting the original Bush v Gore image in this chat? I can't find it @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 01:09, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian:, it's File:MVC-015F (34675553).jpg. 4me689 (talk) 01:12, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you The ganymedian (talk) 01:29, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

As I've said elsewhere, there is no reason to assume that we need an 8th picture, or any pictures at all. Each one you include should be subject to an explanation as to what makes it important, rather than just selecting what you think is best and hoping that no one contradicts you. Deb (talk) 18:57, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

4me689 Please understand that if you keep adding images without consensus, you could be blocked from editing. Deb (talk) 08:29, 2 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2003-04

[edit]

Should Abu Ghraib prisoner torture from the Iraq War be included in 2003 or 2004? Seems like it could go in either direction. The ganymedian (talk) 05:59, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@The ganymedian: probably 2003 4me689 (talk) 08:00, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Should 2003 include more than one Iraq-related event? That year's news is centred on Iraq, including the protests against the Iraq War, which began in 2002 & should perhaps be on 2002 instead. There's the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the Iraq War itself, as well as major attacks such as the Canal Hotel bombing. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 11:13, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
yes, sure. 4me689 (talk) 19:00, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"Should 2003 include more than one Iraq-related event?" I don't think so. Deb (talk) 18:59, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2002

[edit]

Two choices for an 8th picture- Dept. of Homeland Security, or George Bush's "Axis of Evil" speech The ganymedian (talk) 22:54, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Right now I have winter olympics, the euro, DC sniper, China Airlines 611, World Cup, Queen mother death, East Timor The ganymedian (talk) 23:02, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Replace the D.C. sniper attacks with the 2002 Bali bombings. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 21:10, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
2002 collage uploaded. Still iffy about Homeland Security though @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 00:14, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
yeah, I agree, I am also iffy about Homeland Security, maybe something about the 2002 SARS outbreak. though that's maybe more of a 2003 thing. 4me689 (talk) 01:21, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In 2002, I would bet more on the Prestige oil spill, SARS outbreak, Trial of Slobodan Milošević or the entry into force of the Rome Statute, than on the creation of a US government department, that's a simple reorganization. What do you think? _-_Alsor (talk) 11:48, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Those are better options. Deb (talk) 19:01, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Neither, please. They are US events - I don't even know what "Dept of Homeland Security" means. Deb (talk) 19:00, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

1999

[edit]

Between King of Jordan and JFK Jr., who would you choose to keep in the 1999 collage? Gonna swap out some pictures if that's alright with you @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 07:43, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Jordanian King without any doubt. _-_Alsor (talk) 11:40, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian:, also you mind updating the 1998 collage to an image collage. 4me689 (talk) 02:40, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
1998 uploaded The ganymedian (talk) 06:01, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
When you hover your mouse over 1998 does the collage show up? It doesn't seem to be The ganymedian (talk) 06:12, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind, fixed The ganymedian (talk) 06:24, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

1997

[edit]

@4me689 Do you think we should list some event candidates for 1997 so we are on the same page before I make a collage? The ganymedian (talk) 06:06, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@The ganymedian: here's some candidates the ones in bold are stuff that must be on the collage, 1997 Israeli helicopter disaster, Comet Hale–Bopp, Heaven's Gate, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, 1997 Central European flood, Handover of Hong Kong, Mars Pathfinder, Korean Air Flight 801, Death of Diana, Princess of Wales, and Cassini–Huygens. 4me689 (talk) 06:28, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Do you think Titanic is worthy? Was probably the biggest cultural phenomenon of the year The ganymedian (talk) 06:35, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
sure I guess, just make sure you don't use any copyright material. 4me689 (talk) 06:41, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Pop culture isn't important enough for main year articles, so Harry Potter & Titanic shouldn't be included. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 10:21, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What would you suggest then to replace them? @Jim Michael 2 The ganymedian (talk) 19:26, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My argument is that they were big definers of the year as a whole, pop culture or not The ganymedian (talk) 19:27, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
1997 Version A uploaded. May have to change some pictures if there is a disagreement with the first 2 @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 19:38, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There are still 9 things, so no replacement is needed. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 20:46, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian: I think the 1997 collage is all good, also can you add the 2010 World Cup to the 2010 collage. preferably replacing the Bombardment of Yeonpyeong. 4me689 (talk) 22:00, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Done, 2010 now updated The ganymedian (talk) 23:01, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

1996

[edit]

Gonna start this one soon, any ideas for events? Already have the Olympics The ganymedian (talk) 23:16, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@The ganymedian: other than the 1996 Olympics here some other candidates, the ones in bold are a must. North Cape oil spill, Mansouri attack, Nabatieh Fawka attack, Qana massacre, 1996 Mount Everest disaster, Dolly the sheep, Centennial Olympic Park bombing, Allan Hills 84001, and the 1996 cruise missile strikes on Iraq. 4me689 (talk) 23:40, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
1996 is uploaded The ganymedian (talk) 03:48, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2019, 2020, and 2021 collages

[edit]

any changes that should be made to the collages on the 2019, 2020, and 2021 collages, I also give you permission to change it. 4me689 (talk) 23:44, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe we could put in the Ever Given and replace it with one of the coup pictures in 2021 The ganymedian (talk) 23:50, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian: that is a great idea 4me689 (talk) 00:09, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
2021 updated The ganymedian (talk) 02:40, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Only thing with 2019 I would change is the order of the pictures The ganymedian (talk) 23:51, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I would replace the January 6 image with one from the 2021 Israel–Palestine crisis, during which 250+ people were killed and tens of thousands of people were displaced. TheScrubby (talk) 11:24, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed - the I-P crisis is far more important, its death toll many times higher, it affected far more people & it's international. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 13:31, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

1995

Windows 95 or the Million Man March? The ganymedian (talk) 05:09, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

1995 uploaded The ganymedian (talk) 06:50, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies if I am bothering you with all the questions @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 07:00, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian: Windows 95 in my opinion. Million Man March is more of a 60's thing. 4me689 (talk) 12:28, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hard to find a windows 95 picture that's not copyright or has a checkered background. It's hard to tell if I am allowed to use the Windows 95 desktop picture from the Windows 95 article The ganymedian (talk) 15:20, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like I might be able to under the right conditions The ganymedian (talk) 15:24, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There's a consensus that software isn't important enough to include in main year articles, so it certainly shouldn't be in any of their collages. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 16:03, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
im ok with either one 4me689 (talk) 16:17, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Alsoriano97: & @Wjfox2005: what do you think, Windows 95 or the Million Man March? 4me689 (talk) 16:25, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Windows 95 for sure. Wjfox2005 (talk) 17:23, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Windows 95 _-_Alsor (talk) 17:15, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

When software is already excluded from main year articles by consensus, due to it being not important enough? Why are you ignoring that? Jim Michael 2 (talk) 18:07, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Can you link where this consensus was agreed upon? I'm just curious @Jim Michael 2 The ganymedian (talk) 21:03, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I was not aware of the software consensus before, but I am thinking of proposing an argument and amendment for this. @Jim Michael 2 The ganymedian (talk) 21:28, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I removed from a main year article Microsoft's withdrawal of support for a version of Windows, because it's not important enough. That was followed by a few edits in which it was reinstated & removed, it being agreed that it'd previously been established that software isn't important enough for main year articles. I can't remember when the edits happened, but it was most likely last year. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 16:24, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Alsoriano97:, @Wjfox2005:, @The ganymedian:, and @Jim Michael 2:, I open discussion about Windows 95 inclusion in the 1995 article at Talk:1995#Windows 95 or the Million Man March?. if you want to talk about it, go post a message there. 4me689 (talk) 00:26, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Move this discussion to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Years

[edit]

As stated on Talk:2022, this discussion needs to moved to WP:YEARS, because most editors who are interested in this won't see it on here. Keeping it here only makes it look like we're a tiny cabal who's hiding a discussion from the community to gain consensus without most editors knowing of it. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 09:31, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I went to said article talk page and link this discussion back there 4me689 (talk) 11:53, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not good enough. Deb (talk) 12:35, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
4me689 may not know how to move this discussion there. I don't either, so could someone who knows how to please do so. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 13:25, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

the of the 1994', 93', and 92' collages

[edit]

@The ganymedian: here's some candidates for the rest of the of the 1994', 93', and 92' collages, the ones in bold are stuff that must be on the collage

1992 - the fall of Yugoslavia, First Nagorno-Karabakh War, February 1992 Venezuelan coup d'état attempt, Maastricht Treaty, 1992 Winter Olympics, Khojaly massacre, Bosnian War, 1992 Los Angeles riots, Capaci bombing, 1992 Summer Olympics, Hurricane Andrew, and El Al Flight 1862

1993 - Dissolution of Czechoslovakia, START II, 1993 World Trade Center bombing, 1993 Storm of the Century, Great Flood of 1993, Eritrean independence , Waco siege, Typhoon Koryn (1993), 1993 child sexual abuse accusations against Michael Jackson, Oslo I Accord, Big Bayou Canot rail accident, 1993 Russian constitutional crisis, and the end of Pablo Escobar.

1994 - the PlayStation, the Rwandan genocide, the end of Apartheid, 1994 FIFA World Cup, Yemeni Civil War (1994), Death and state funeral of Kim Il-sung, Netscape Navigator, North American Free Trade Agreement, 1994 Winter Olympics, AMIA bombing, Green Ramp disaster, and the Suicide of Kurt Cobain 4me689 (talk) 14:04, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

hmmm, Yugoslavia could work for both 1991 and 1992. Do you think 1992 is better because that marked the end of the breakup? The ganymedian (talk) 16:02, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian: 1992 would work better 4me689 (talk) 16:27, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
End of Apartheid seems a little ambiguous as to a year, and didn't seem to have a hard end day. maybe 1990 when Mandela got out of prison? Or 1991 when Apartheid legislation was repealed? Doesn't seem to fit the best for '94. WHat are your thoughts? @4me689: The ganymedian (talk) 16:09, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
i'm thinking more of the 1994 South African general election. when nelson Mandela got elected. 4me689 (talk) 16:29, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
it says Czechoslovakia dissolved on 12/31/1992- should it be in 1992 then? @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 03:15, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian: sure I guess 4me689 (talk) 03:43, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe ill just put it in 93 The ganymedian (talk) 04:02, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Olympics

[edit]

Starting from 1992 downward, I'm only gonna include the summer olympics of years divisible by 4 if I somehow run out of room because both summer and winter olympics were in the same years. This is only if other events take up room. Just a heads up The ganymedian (talk) 07:20, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2001

Why are these people taking out and criticizing my collage? They say its US centric but in all truth most of the major events of 2001 were based around 9/11 and the US response...Thank you for supporting me @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 21:55, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Do we want to use the version with the iPod or the version with the Nepalese royal massacre? The ganymedian (talk) 22:20, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@4me689 2001 was deleted again... I posted a message in the talk page for 2001 for everyone to see. If you know any other people concerned with this collage, you can let them know of my message and the debate. Thanks The ganymedian (talk) 07:27, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Include the September 11 attacks, the war on terror, the United States invasion of Afghanistan, the Nepalese royal massacre, the 2001 United Kingdom foot-and-mouth outbreak, the 2001 Gujarat earthquake and Wikipedia. The Enron scandal & the iPod aren't important enough. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 09:19, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There is no consensus to include collages for any of these years. Deb (talk) 12:34, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok then. How do I put it up for a vote? There are 36 collages already, I'm not sure why we should stop now. Seems like a majority of people like having them there, even if they disagree with some of the entries. I would like to know just how many people agree or dissent in the shortest time possible so I know if I should just stop doing these. What talk page could I reach that has the largest audience to put the collage concept up for vote? @Deb The ganymedian (talk) 20:32, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Some of these are domestic events which shouldn't be on collages of main year articles, including the 1979 Mississauga train derailment & the Russell Street bombing. There are several video game-related things, none of which are important enough to be included. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 13:25, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
These are just rough draft ideas for now just so we get a sense of some of the big events. @Jim Michael 2 However, it seems like one or many people don't believe we should even have collages anymore, so I would like to know the consensus on that before I put in more time making these collages. The ganymedian (talk) 20:33, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
"one or many people don't believe we should even have collages anymore". You are using the words "any more" as if collages were part of the standard layout for Years. They aren't; you've only introduced them recently, without attempting to obtain consensus. Deb (talk) 02:00, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well @Deb: you're the only one that I have seen that has rejected collages publicly, everyone else has supported collages. please link to a talk section that proves that multiple people reject collages. 4me689 (talk) 02:09, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
How can that be the case when you haven't even posted the discussion in the correct place, despite being asked multiple times to do so? Deb (talk) 02:23, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Should I stop doing collages?

[edit]

Seems like there are many dissenting opinions about collages. Should I just stop doing them if the process of coming to agreement takes too long and is too strenuous? I personally don't want to stop, but if enough people don't like it, I guess not then. The ganymedian (talk) 20:41, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm in favour of the collages, although I disagree with some of the images chosen. It'd be better if more editors joined the discussions. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 20:51, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Where should I post debates to reach the largest audience of editors? @Jim Michael 2 Would this be on each year's talk page, or somewhere else? The ganymedian (talk) 22:30, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm in big favor of collages, @The ganymedian: please keep making more collages, I love them.
as for Jim Michael, I tried to ping @PaulRKil: & @TheScrubby: to reply, but he never responded. as for images there probably some American eccentric things I probably won't agree with, as for technology, it should be on a case-by-case basis based on how revolutionary it is.
@Alsoriano97: & @Wjfox2005: what are your thoughts. 4me689 (talk) 23:39, 8 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It really only seems to be one person in this collage sphere that seems to want consensus on everything before I make collages, so I posted a prompt in every talk page from '79-'09 @4me689 but I find that it takes way too long for people to agree and vote on stuff, and it would be weeks/months between posts if that were the case. I personally don't see much American bias, and if there is, it's probably because said events were year-defining in my historical opinion.
I pretty much look for major year-defining events, regardless of where they come from. I am openly willing to have conversations with people about image selection, and don't really have a problem replacing a couple pictures if there is a good argument for them. Some people, however, have been rather antagonistic and destructively critical of my collages, even though I am trying to add to the world's collective knowledge and engagement with information.
But I want to thank you @4me689 again, you are a big supporter and help of these collage projects. Means a lot to have an advocate for these The ganymedian (talk) 00:53, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if we should get a third party involved to mediate... The ganymedian (talk) 01:45, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

collage vote

[edit]

@Alsoriano97:, @Wjfox2005:, @The ganymedian:, @Deb:, @The ganymedian: and @Jim Michael 2: this message is to let everyone know that I opened a collage vote here at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject 4me689 (talk) 02:35, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like nobody wants them. Guess I spent all that time for nothing. The ganymedian (talk) 03:00, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help anyway @4me689, best of luck with everything else. The ganymedian (talk) 03:04, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian:, can you make more collages, so we can add more to that collage gallery above. we don't have to add them to the year articles themselves. I would love to see what a 1986 collage would look like. 4me689 (talk) 03:12, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I guess if you want me to The ganymedian (talk) 04:52, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's up @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 05:40, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@4me689 What are your first reactions to the 1986 collage I posted in this talk page? Is there anything you would change The ganymedian (talk) 16:18, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian: it's perfect, there's not really anything bad about it, you mind putting on 1986 article 4me689 (talk) 21:55, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Should I put it in even though the collage vote is still ongoing? @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 23:04, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Iran-contra may receive some pushback since it may be classified as a domestic event @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 23:08, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian: go ahead there's a majority saying yes for collages. 4me689 (talk) 23:15, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Another no vote popped up The ganymedian (talk) 05:50, 11 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I know 4me689 (talk) 05:52, 11 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder if it is possible to ask Wikipedia CEO haha The ganymedian (talk) 05:57, 11 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian: I think you can ping him, though I don't know if he will respond. 4me689 (talk) 05:59, 11 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That's unfortunate. He probably wouldn't insert himself anyway The ganymedian (talk) 06:06, 11 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian: can you add the 1986 collage, to the 1986 article, there's a majority saying yes for collages. 4me689 (talk) 13:53, 11 October 2022 (UTC):@Wjfox2005:, and @Chaheel Riens: this message is to let you guys know that there were currently voting for collages in main year articles here at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Years#collage_vote. 4me689 (talk) 05:52, 11 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Uploaded @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 20:15, 11 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How long will you be keeping the vote open, a few days? That seems like enough time for people to make their opinions. Maybe up to a week. Want to get as many votes as possible The ganymedian (talk) 08:15, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

sure, the discussion is open till It get to archived which won't probably happen until a few months from now. @The ganymedian: can you also go cast your vote. 4me689 (talk) 08:19, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian:, update the votes are now tied at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Years#collage_vote go ahead and go and vote be the tiebreaker. 4me689 (talk) 18:20, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for letting me know, I just put my vote in. @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 20:15, 9 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

1985

[edit]

I'm gonna combine Live Aid and Ethiopian famine into one. I am still deciding on an 8th picture for this rough draft collage. @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 05:37, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@The ganymedian: that's OK, what are the other 7, also @KoopaDaQuick:, @Chaheel Riens:, @Alsoriano97: and @Jim Michael 2:. What are your thoughts. 4me689 (talk) 12:17, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with the 1983–1985 famine in Ethiopia & Live Aid. The Heysel Stadium disaster, Air India Flight 182, the 1985 Mexico City earthquake, the Armero tragedy & the 1985 Rome and Vienna airport attacks should be included. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 13:42, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I concur, the best ones are the ones you chose. Another good choice could be the Nintendo Entertainment System, which revitalized the North American video game industry. KoopaDaQuick (talk) 19:06, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. 4me689 (talk) 19:11, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have Live Aid, Air India 182, Japan Air 123, Titanic, Mexico city quake, Gorbachev, Amero tragedy so far @4me689 @Jim Michael 2 The ganymedian (talk) 21:30, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Finding the wreck of the Titanic isn't important enough. Gorbachev being elected isn't important in itself; it was his role in ending the Cold War that was. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 08:40, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Deb keeps removing my collages. This is getting incredibly annoying The ganymedian (talk) 21:59, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I can fix them, but Deb doesn't seem to want collages at all. She is also quite rude and condescending @4me689 The ganymedian (talk) 22:36, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian: here's some ideas I think should fix these collages so everyone could agree,
1995 - replace the Unabomber with the World Trade Organization, also you may need to replace Windows 95 with American Airlines Flight 965 more people will probably agree on that.
2000 - maybe replace the 2000 United States presidential election with either Autumn 2000 Western Europe floods or something about the Second Chechen War
2002 - maybe replace the D.C. sniper attacks with Prestige oil spill
I agree with all those. Software isn't important enough & we should include international events only. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 08:40, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@KoopaDaQuick:, @Chaheel Riens:, @Alsoriano97:, @Wjfox2005:, @Jim Michael 2:, and @The ganymedian: I added a customizable collage to the 1985 article, any Thoughts. 4me689 (talk) 05:40, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@The ganymedian:, can you make the 1985 image collage, i have not heard from @Chaheel Riens: yet, if you have any opinions, I recommend telling is now. 4me689 (talk) 16:53, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have it made, I just wasn't sure if I should post it because people may throw a fit @4me689
And sorry for the late response times, I have been swamped with my new job. The ganymedian (talk) 03:35, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I had an ‘85 playlist on deck but didn’t add it to the article cause someone said not to post any collages until the vote was over The ganymedian (talk) 07:10, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

oh I'll just hid it for now. 4me689 (talk) 07:33, 15 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

commenting out of collages

[edit]

the 1988, 1993, 1995, 1996, 2000, 2001, & 2020 collage have all been comment out, mainly by @Deb:, but also by other users like @Chaheel Riens: as well, we really need to talk about any images that are on all these colleges. pinging @Jim Michael 2: & @The ganymedian: 4me689 (talk) 18:00, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm in favour of collages, but some of them include things which clearly aren't important enough. On 2009, U.S Airlines Flight 1549 - which is very domestic & shouldn't be mentioned in the article at all. On 2011, Minecraft - which is mere pop culture. On 2012, the 2012 phenomenon - which was mere baseless claims. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 19:03, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

1998

[edit]

So I just realized that the 1998 collage has been deleted because it contained a copyrighted web page (in this case, Google's web page at its launch). Should we replace it with something else related to Google or just add another notable event in its place? Bsslover371 (talk) 18:31, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Bsslover371: just replace it with another image related to Google that is not copyrighted. 4me689 (talk) 02:31, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

1964, 1962

[edit]

We should add the 9.2 Alaska earthquake for 1964, and add the independence of Algeria for 1962. DementiaGaming (talk) 03:38, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have already tried the first idea, and it is evident that a biting lady would be very unhappy and would quickly take it down, citing American centrism as the reason. Nagae Iku (talk) 14:23, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see your point. We have proof against them, though; we have many powerful earthquakes on the collages that normally would not be on here for their death toll, but are solely on there for how strong they were: 1960, 2010 and 2011. DementiaGaming (talk) 21:17, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

When should we stop doing collages

[edit]

Should we stop doing collages when we reach the year 1900? There has to be some limit to making these. DementiaGaming (talk) 16:50, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@DementiaGaming limit yes, i'll say keep making collages up untill 1900 and then will see after that. currently all years 1960 to present has collages. 4me689 (talk) 05:35, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

16-gird

[edit]
2020 Events montage 16-grid version

I have a proposal that we could expand the collage to a 16-grid format. This may reduce disputes over the selection of events, and it should ensure that there is at least one event from every continent in the collage. The image on the right is my reset of the 2020 collage. Nagae Iku (talk) 09:11, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Nagae Iku this is a great idea for Newer Years like 2020, you should go ahead and put this in the 2020 article, just make sure you get consensus in the talk section first, but this is only really perfect for newer years. 4me689 (talk) 22:10, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

2023 first collage concept

[edit]
Clockwise, from top left: open AI releases ChatGPT; SAG-AFTRA goes on strike; Reporters swarming a bank customer to ask questions during the 2023 United States banking crisis; Sudanese refugee camp in Chad during the 2023 War in Sudan; Imi N'Tala after the 2023 Marrakesh–Safi earthquake; Charles III and Camilla waving from the balcony of Buckingham Palace in their Coronation; Indian lunar exploration spacecraft Chandrayaan-3 lands near the lunar south pole, carrying the Pragyan rover; Collapsed buildings in Hatay Province as of the result of the 2023 Turkey–Syria earthquake

What do you guys think of this 2023 collage concept, and what events should be added or removed from it, any thoughts??????. 4me689 (talk) 20:53, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Because this is September and 2022 collage was added here, so we would soon review something like that. Just a random Wikipedian(talk) 10:58, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
My opinion: remove Hollywood strike (low impact), Morroco earthquake (just one earthquake is enough for diversity), ChatGPT (released in 2022), Chandrayaan-3 (medium impact), add Brazilian congress attack (a political image), Hawaii fires (very notable event), Storm Daniel (high death toll), Chinese spy ballon (high geopolitical impact). ArionStar (talk) 16:59, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Still AI was a significant trend in the first half of 2023, but has reduced greatly in the second half. Just a random Wikipedian(talk) 14:35, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I prefer punctual events. ArionStar (talk) 17:07, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We are still have October - December 2023 events left, but this is still better to have images for now (on September 27, 2022) we already had collage photos for 2022. Just a random Wikipedian(talk) 13:37, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
October 2023 Gaza−Israel conflict is a good event to add (JrandWP you were a prophetic somehow). ArionStar (talk) 21:25, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If agreed to, I can make an updated collage with the Israeli war included. The ganymedian (talk) 23:25, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Can the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict (high impact) also be added and the SAG-AFTRA strike be removed (low impact), along with the 2023 Hamas-Israeli war (high impact)? JohnAdams1800 (talk) 22:00, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
General suggestion: 1) 2023 United States banking crisis; 2) 2023 Brazilian Congress attack; 3) 2023 Israel–Hamas war; 4) 2023 Turkey–Syria earthquakes; 5) Coronation of Charles III and Camilla; 6) 2023 Hawaii wildfires; 7) 2023 Chinese balloon incident; 8) Chandrayaan-3. ArionStar (talk) 21:19, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The rise of AI belongs in the 2020s collage, not the 2023 collage. DementiaGaming (talk) 04:13, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, we shouldn’t include the coronation, we already included Elizabeth II’s death, so it would be unnecessary to add it in this collage. We should also replace the War in Sudan, as it quickly lost the attention of the outside world and we already have an image for the Sudan problem in 2021. I suggest the ICC’s arrest warrants for Putin and Lvova-Belova, the egression of the Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, and two images for the Israel conflict. DementiaGaming (talk) 04:14, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

2001 collage image candidates

Suggestion 10-04-23

[edit]

After we edit the 2003 collage, I see no reason to why we should continue editing collages. Multiple editors have asked us to stop and leave them as they are, and have been ignored. The ganymedian also worked very hard on them, and it's very disappointing to see his hard work gone. DementiaGaming (talk) 03:54, 5 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate this comment, thank you The ganymedian (talk) 23:31, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
