Substitute your anchors in section headings

[edit]

Please read the documentation on Template:Anchor. This template should always be substituted when used in a section heading; otherwise, instead of avoiding a broken link, it makes the problem worse, specifically by introducing the template code to the edit summary section links.

Out of respect, I won't repeat my previous recommendation, and I apologize if I came across as rude before; however, it is important that this template be substituted, not transcluded, when used in section headings. 2001:18E8:3:1087:F000:0:0:3FE (talk) 01:31, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your apology. The more respectful, less abrupt tone was enough to get me to look again at the {{anchor}} documentation, this time more closely. Your first message (which I deleted) was, quite frankly, not at all helpful. If you want to make recommendations to other users, do not post them before you have logged in to some identifiable user ID.
The previous message was posted anonymously, and strange and obscure. The words "transclusion" and "substitute" were not, and frankly still are not a part of my working vocabulary. So the deleted message looked like a random crank- or troll-posting. I really had no idea what you were trying to say, nor what article you were writing in reference to, so it was not even clear that it had anything to do with me.
A quick glance last time at the {{anchor}} documentation did not clear up what your issue was. I would recommend that a much more effective message would be
"For technical reasons, please always use {{subst:anchor|name_of_anchor}} instead of just plain {{anchor|name_of_anchor}} when inserting anchors in headings.
Note the linked reference to the technical stuff.

Wikiproject

[edit]

Hi, I see you've contributed a lot to epic poetry, would you be interested in a wikiproject on oral tradition? Kowal2701 (talk) 19:21, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
