June 2020[edit]

I think you're here to troll Christopher Langan. If so, thanks, but no thanks. Guy (help!) 19:39, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@JzG: I don't recall asking for your opinion.
Regards, Gary 90.217.36.161 (talk) 21:30, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That's OK, the involvement of admins in policing policy is a standard item, not an option. Also maybe check my user page. Guy (help!) 21:33, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@JzG: I already did check your user page, at which point I immediately chuckled to myself and thought, "Virgin alert!"

What a pity you didn't read any of it. Never mind. I'll give you this, for now:

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in pseudoscience and fringe science. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Bye for now. Guy (help!) 22:01, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@JzG: Thanks. Bye.

Warning[edit]

At User talk:Nigerian chess player this IP has written "Rest assured, Johnuniq, I will be reporting you for your racially discriminatory actions." (diff). Vague threats of that nature are not compatible with Wikipedia's collaborative community—how do you think it would work out if every disagreement was "settled" with participants making escalating threats to each other? At any rate, no legal threats is a very firmly applied policy and it is broadly interpreted to mean that there must be no threats of off-wiki reports. No one is trying to control you—of course you are free to commence whatever off-wiki action you want, but you must not use Wikipedia to talk about it. Please remove that message before any other editing. I will ask Guy to confirm that my request is valid. Johnuniq (talk) 01:20, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Johnuniq, that comment is unacceptable and the IP should remove it immediately. Guy (help!) 08:45, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Johnuniq: I meant that I would be reporting you to Wiki admins. I wasn't threatening to drag you before the International Court of Justice.
@JzG: Why don't you remove it? You unceremoniously removed my last message on the "Simulation Hypothesis" page, even though it was inoffensive (unless the truth is offensive) and relevant to the discussion.

There's a convention here that problematic edits are more likely to be held against an editor if they fail or refuse to reverse them. We often offer people the opportunity to do so, rather than jumping to sanctions. Guy (help!) 16:49, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
