Punctuation; manual of style[edit]

You're making a lot of changes to United Kingdom European Union membership referendum, 2016. Many of them are wrong. "it's" is an abbreviation of "it is", so all instances in which you changed "its" to "it's" are now incorrect and need to be changed back. You should also check Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Capital letters, which is the style guide for the use of capital letters. EddieHugh (talk) 21:07, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

And for numbers, use "million" instead of adding "000,000" (the latter indicates a false level of precision). See MOS:LARGENUM. And for number ranges, use "from 1998 to 2002", or "1998–2002". Why do you keep changing correct formatting (e.g., "from 2001 to 2004") to incorrect formatting (e.g., "from 2001-2004")? Please read MOS:DATERANGE, which is part of the manual of style for Wikipedia. It states: "Use a dash, or a word such as from or between, but not both: from 1881 to 1886 (not from 1881–1886); between June 1 and July 3 (not between June 1 – July 3)". And "A simple year–year range is written using an en dash (– or {{ndash}}) not a hyphen or slash". EddieHugh (talk) 10:52, 5 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Third try[edit]

Some of your changes are helpful and improve the encyclopedia. However, some are not. This is perhaps true for everyone. That's why we all get feedback in a variety of ways. For you, some of this has been provided above. It would be good if you would take the time to read the things that I have linked to above. Some advice[edit]

Hello 92.25.194.187, firstly thank you for your edits to Wikipedia articles; they are for the most part helpful. We've noticed, however, that you're changing some style elements in ways that go against Wikipedia's style conventions; particularly the date-range issue noted by the editor above. There's actually no reason for you to alter the style of these year-ranges, unless it's to make the style consistent across the article. If you do wish to change the style "from 2001 to 2004" to "2001–2004", you can use the following wiki-markup: 2001{{ndash}}2004. This style uses an ndash, which is longer than a hyphen but shorter than an mdash.

Also, please don't change "its" to "it's"—"its" means belonging to it while "it's" is a contraction for it is. This is basic English grammar.

I know the Manual of style is a lot to read, but you should at least browse through it; it's easy to follow, clear and well-sectioned. Wikipedia also has an excellent help section, where you can find lots of useful information to make editing easier. If you're unsure of anything, like grammar, punctuation and other style issues, you can ask at the Teahouse or our WP:Helpdesks.

Finally,Communicating with other Wikipedia editors is required; so please do take notice of the other postings here; they're a bit abrasive but will help prevent you from getting into trouble with editors like me who've been here a while. We sometimes forget we were new once, too. :).

It's a shame, but...[edit]

You are making some good changes, but you are making the same mistakes again and again and ignoring what other users are telling you. For example, despite being told several times what the difference is, you continue to get "its" and "it's" wrong. See here if you don't believe it.

I see three options:

You stop introducing errors into articles after being told that they are errors.
You explain if there is something that makes it difficult for you to adjust in response to feedback.
You continue without doing 1 or 2, so end up being reported at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.

The third option would lead to you being blocked from editing sooner or later, so is not recommended or desirable. The choice, however, is yours. EddieHugh (talk) 18:48, 11 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

So that everything is transparent, and to give you the maximum opportunity to change, I'll list below each instance of when you erroneously change between "its" and "it's", or use 'between xxxx-xxxx'. This starts only from my description of the three options, listed above. If the list reaches five, then you will have selected option 3.
