Welcome to Wikipedia, AAMAExecDirector! Thank you for your contributions. I have been editing Wikipedia for some time, so if you have any questions feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Alberta Aviation Museum[edit]

I noticed that the article says "...the new USAAF base opened in Edmonton." Is that a reference to CFB Edmonton? Cheers. CBWeather, Talk, Seal meat for supper? 15:47, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(AAMAExecDirector) ...the new USAAF base opened in Edmonton...

That was actually already there, but thank you for pointing it out as it should be updated to ...the new USAAF base that was to become CFB Namao (now CFB Edmonton) opened outside of Edmonton.

Thanks for spotting that I missed it.

Thanks. I've linked it as well. CBWeather, Talk, Seal meat for supper? 16:24, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

Request reason:

clarity please

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. Please select, using {{unblock-un}}, a new username which does not in any way reflect your executive role at AAM. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 10:54, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I am requesting some clarity please.

The reason the username AAMAExecDirector has been locked is noted as "because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes."

Which I can appreciate if my edits had been of a publicity or promotional purpose.

The edits I have made have been factual only ie: corrections to the collections list (reductions), changes to work in progress in our restoration area (it was badly out of date) as well as a couple minor historical corrections and wording errors.

It was my intent to continue to make such corrections to be sure the page was accurate as time passes, not to use for publicity or promotion.

IF that is unacceptable then I will not use the username AAMAExecDirector and withdraw from participation as I cannot guarantee I will have time to devote to other pages.

Thank you

(Non-administrator observation) I would agree that the reasoning is a bit harsh, but you still need to change your username. Accounts must be used by only one person, so usernames should reflect you as an individual. While your username does presumably refer to a single person, it is still not allowed as a "role account". (That is, if a new executive director were instated, the account would be transfered to another person, and that would still considered sharing.)
To request a change in username, add the code {{unblock-un|Proposed username|Some explanation of your editing}} below. Anon126 (notify me of responses! / talk / contribs) 07:14, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It would have been better if they had looked at the three contributions you made and opened a discussion rather than blocking and adding one of the largest templates available. You have made three good additions so far and I would encourage you get another user name. I have the Alberta Aviation Museum on my watchlist so I see changes to it. So if you were making promotional edits I would notice. CBWeather, Talk, Seal meat for supper? 14:15, 29 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
