A tag has been placed on your user page, User:AARO1973/sandbox, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. ~Liancetalk 13:08, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, AARO1973. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. ~Liancetalk 13:08, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Block notice

[edit]
Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Hello,

This account was previously called "AARO1973," created for the draft of the "Association of Americans Resident Overseas" Wikipedia article.

As stated in the article's review, it did not meet the standards of neutrality. Furthermore, the account's name and the declaration on the user page implied that it was the official AARO account. From the feedback I received, I now understand that this also does not meet Wikipedia's standards.

I am not receiving any money for this contribution. Having read the Wikipedia disclosure page, I posted a statement on the user page for full transparency but did not admit to any payment because none has occurred and none will occur.

I am a volunteer for the organization in question.

My intention when I posted this article for review was to receive feedback on which parts might appear problematic regarding the neutrality requirements. Hoping to modify them and work towards a more neutral article.

I understand from the full deletion of the article that it was so far from meeting neutrality standards that it was considered unnecessary to specifically point out the problematic parts.

If this account were to be successfully unblocked and its name changed, I would rewrite the article in a more neutral fashion and hope to submit it again for review.

Best regards, An American Volunteer in Paris

I do not aim to create this article for any promotional reason. AARO has played a role in the history of American citizens living overseas, and I wish to document it in this encyclopedia. AARO1973 (talk) 17:02, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

You will at least need to declare a conflict of interest. Formal volunteer editing can sometimes still be "paid editing" as volunteers often put their work on a resume to obtain paying employment, making the experience the compensation. "I wish to document it" can still be a form of promotion; Wikipedia is not a mere database of organizations that exist, nor is it a place for an organization to tell about itself, its purpose, and what it considers to be its own history. An organization must receive significant coverage in independent reliable sources that chose on their own to write about it, and not based on materials from the organization, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable organization. Writing a new article is the most difficult task to perform on Wikipedia, and it's even harder with a conflict of interest, as you must set aside what you know about the organization and all materials it puts out, and only write based on the content of independent sources. You won't be unblocked to, in the short term, edit about your organization. If that is your only goal here, this is the end of the road. If you want to be a more general contributor and edit about topics for which you have no conflict of interest in the short term, please tell what those might be. Once you have built up a good edit history showing your understanding of relevant policies, you may later be permitted to indirectly contribute about your organization, but not now. 331dot (talk) 20:47, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please place new posts at the bottom, for proper chronological flow. This may be easier to do if you click "edit" and not "reply". 331dot (talk) 20:39, 14 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
