Bias on O'Reilly page[edit]

I'm a Democrat and not a fan of Fox News, but I've tried to encourage political moderation and the O'Reilly page seems a little "anti-O'Reilly" even to me. You guys have always tried to monitor bias and we out here in the world appreciate it. Just thought you'd like to know.

Monobook[edit]

Hi i've found your name on the credits on EssJay's monobook and probably you can help me. After translating many things into my language (italian), i have a trouble. In the italian wiki the label "edit" is translated as modifica. Using the monobook this label is now edit and i would like to rename it into italian. I copied some of the tools from User:Trilobite/Tools, which is said to be copied from you. I am wondering if there is a relation between your morelinks() function and the one from User Styles/bottom tabs. Sorry about the bot, but it isn't mine- all of it is AllyUnion's great work. Anyhow, I think he is still working out some bugs. I don't think the bot is technically capable of putting messages on a subpage, but I'll have to check. Speedy deleting a category[edit]

Please be more careful with speedying a category. Some anon (83.109.154.40 (talk • contribs)) had recategorized all articles in Category:Field Marshals of Nazi Germany to Category:Field Marshals of Germany and then tagged the former category as a speedy, which you then promptly deleted. This is the second time this anon tries to pull this stunt (im May 2005, he operated as 83.109.129.114 (talk • contribs))... Other edits performed clearly betray the agenda this user has: [2], [3], [4]. I've undeleted the category and undone all the harmful edits of this anon, and also left a note at Category talk:Field Marshals of Nazi Germany. BTW, this whole thing was just an attempt to bypass WP:CFD, after his earlier attempt to get the category deleted by due process had failed. I wanted to ask the same thing. Is there a style guideline on this point? I like to use the sup and sub templates because they are shorter. The {{sup|...}} to <sup>...</sup> is to reduce server load. It also isn't really any harder to read. The ρ → ρ edits are to shorten the length of the stored text - especially when there is a lot of Greek/Chinese/Japanese/etc. text on a page. – ABC D✉ 20:40, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Monobook.css[edit]

I noticed that the appearance of my Wikipedia pages changed today, and after scratching my head and chasing things down, it appears that your change to Monobook.css is responsible. Unfortunately, that seems to have broken the ability to have links underlined in Firefox without installing a custom style sheet. (This is Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050716 Firefox/1.0.6.) I have "Underline Links" checked in Firefox Preferences, but they do not appear in Wikipedia using the Monobook skin. Other skins retained underlined links.

I would revert the change pending discussion (the last that appears on the Monobook.css Talk page is from June), but it appears to be beyond my technical expertise because of coming from Mediawiki, as is installing whatever is needed to override this until the matter is solved.

In Special:Preferences, under Misc, check your settings under "Underline links" - if it says "Browser Default", and it's not working, try "Always". If it says "Never", then that would be the problem - change it to "Browser Default" or "Always". – ABC D✉ 00:49, 15 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. "Always" works, but "Browser Default" does not; in addition, adding the deleted line to a user sub-page monobook.css file does not work either, except briefly during the Preview part of the edit cycle. Firefox extension[edit]

Would you happen to know how to make a firefox extension using Javascript? It would be very simple and used to fight vandalism. The basic idea is to feed RC diff's into firefox, and let it determine which pages contain text (such as an obscenity) listed in a file. For pages that don't contain anything on this list, the tab is closed. The others remain open and ready to be examined. If you can't figure out how to hookup the IRC RC output into firefox, then it could be used with WP:CDVF to open new tabs in firefox to be checked. Formatting[edit]

I see you've got a regexp for formatting special characters.[5] I'm trying to write one for units; putting spaces before them, lowercasing kilo-, converting HTML entities into special characters, and one for dashes; creating em/en dashes and minus signs where appropriate. Something you'd be interested in?

(By the way, is this something we should definitely be doing? Does converting HTML entities into actual characters cause problems anywhere? It does make it more difficult to edit in external editors that don't support the extra characters. Are there any browsers that have the same problem in textareas?)

Welcome, ABCD/Archive 2, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member, you might be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. A spam list is maintained by Redwolf24 to keep members up to date; you might want to consider adding your name to the list. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.

I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Essjay, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of myself, Flcelloguy, Ryan Norton, and Acetic Acid. Vote count[edit]

I recently stumbled upon the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Anti-Semitism in Poland page and I wonder why did you decide that there is no consensus there? Quick vote count shows that there were some 18 votes to keep, 29 to delete and further 7 to merge and redirect. What should be the vote ratio in order to state there was a consensus then?

That actually was a very interesting debate, and in the end I couldn't determine if there was any consensus at all - it isn't just the votes, it's also the comments. formatting complaint[edit]

See [6]. You converted {{sub|2}} to {{subst:sub|2}} which ordinarily is a good thing, but you did it in the middle of a discussion explaining why someone would want to subst the sub template, and even changed instances that were surrounded by nowiki tags, making the whole thing unreadable. These are the arguments posted on the page of "Moldovan language".

For these facts many users have been blocked and more forced to accept an unilateral point of view of the Administrator Mikkalai and 16 years old Kid [[Node _ue]]. He does not bring arguments as we do, instead he uses his power to block many times (for one week or 24 h). Like for yourself, he warned you and mock on you saying that you don't have the right to say something.

I agree with you when you say to redirect to "Romanian language". Anyway "Romanian" was once recognized in the constitution as official language of the Moldova between 1991-1994 and many attempts to remake this were done.

"Moldovan language" is in fact indentical with Romanian language, renamed as a "language" for political reasons by the government. Although similar theories have been fielded for other languages, this proposal is now believed to have been made to serve political purposes only, and nobody has provided any evidence so-far towards the idea that Moldovan and Romanian are not from common linguistic stock.

The term "Moldovan" is also a soviet invention (see Dept. of State & CIA). A separate language based on these was declared and promoted for political reasons, in order to further advance a Moldovan identity separate from that of Romania.

The soviet Russians called people of Moldavia Republic: "Moldovan" because they wanted to create a new nation different from Moldavians/Romanians.

There is also in Romania a region called Moldova.

Russians manipulated people of Republic of Moldova and washed their brains to create a new person, the soviet "Moldovan". The real name in English is Moldavian, in Romanian is Moldovean and in Russian is Molidavanin. So "Moldovan" belongs to no language!

Artificial creation of the "Moldavian language". Evolution from Romanian to so called Moldavian[edit]

Lately were discovered some facts that prove that the theory of the both languages romanian and "moldovan" - was prefab since the 1812-1918. Some important aspects of the problematics: functioning of the romanian language in the sphere of the laic education system from Bessarabia of the year 1812-1918, the attempts to codyfing the romanian language in conditions of a linguistic situations, causes that determined to degradation of the language compared with spoken romanian on the right side of the river Prut, taking out the name "romanian" and introducing the term "limba moldoveneasca", the intention of the tsarist government "to create a dialect neared to the slavic language".

In the first years of russian occupation (after 1812), because 95% of the population being romanians which they knew only their mother tongue, romanian was admitted as an official language in the institutions of Bessarabia, used along with russian. Gradually the russian language win importance. According to the dates offered by the Dept. for ruling the Bessarabia from 1828, the papers from bureau were held only in russian, and around 1835 it is established a term of 7 years time in which the state institutions will still accept acts in romanian language. As concerning the education, romanian was admitted as language of teaching only until 1842, after that being taught as a separate object. Thus, at the theological Seminar of Chişinău, romanian language is found on the list of compulsory subjects, with 10 hours weekly, until 1863, when the department of romanian is closed for good. At the highschool no. 1 from Chişinău the pupils had the right to choose between romanian and german or between romanian and greek until 9th of Feb. 1866, when the state counselor of the russian government interdicts teaching of the romanian language because the pupils "know this language in the practical mode, and its teaching follows other goals". Around 1871, the tsar published an ucaz "On the suspension of teaching the romanian language in the schools from Besserabia", because "In russian Empire are not taught local speeches".

Comparison Romanian/Moldavian[edit]

The example below demonstrates that a formal text in Romanian and Moldovan may be completely identical, the only difference being the spelling of the î vowel in the word vântul. The colloquial languages show more difference, which varies over the area.

As you can obvious see from these examples they are identical. We speak here about one language. But they Mikkalai and Node_ue don't accept such examples and they constantly delete them without any argument. They delete them because the examples demonstrates all …

Assistance required[edit]

Hi, I'm seeking assistance in a minor formatting issue. I started at the top of the Administrator list looking for someone with programming experience; you are pretty close to the top. My dilemma is on my home page [9] where I have generated a list of the articles and then decided they looked better in columns. I have discovered by putting them in columns it breaks the number listing within a sub-heading. Do you know if there is a way to maintain the list with sequential numbers within the sub-heading?
