Question from WikiKermit5 (18:40, 2 January 2024)[edit]

I am trying to add a Youtuber to the list of YouTubers, the YouTuber is Jacksucksatlife, but it isn’t letting me add him, and I got a comment on my page telling me that if I add non-notable YouTubers to the list. I will get blocked. He has over 4 million subscribers. What should I do in order to add him without getting blocked nor disrupting the article. Thank you for your time. --WikiKermit5 (talk) 18:40, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WikiKermit5, thank you for your question. When an editor here mentions notability they are referring to WP:N. The number of subscribers does not make a subject notable according to Wikipedia. In order to get them added to a list or have an article created for them you must find reliable sources WP:RS which discuss the subject in depth giving significant coverage. The source must be an independent WP:IS secondary WP:SECONDARY source. Primary sources WP:PRIMARY can be used for typical biographical information once the subject is proved notable. If notability can not be verified and proven by a source then it can not be added to Wikipedia. Happy editing and if I can be of additional service please let me know. --ARoseWolf 19:22, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Die Zeit, die Tag und Jahre macht

Happy New Year

2024

Same location pictured as 2019. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:52, 2 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The 2023 picture is from the Abel Fest in Köthen, celebrating the tercentenary of Carl Friedrich Abel, a viol virtuoso, composer and concert organiser in London (together with Bach's youngest son), born on 22 December 1723 in Köthen, where the new catalogue of his works was introduced, - my story today. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:21, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have a DYK on the Main page, but my story would be different, about Figaro, - this Figaro. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:08, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

On the Main page: the person who made the pictured festival possible --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:55, 16 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

story · music · places

Thank you for improving articles in January! I remember Ewa Podleś on the Main page, and had - believe it or not - two musical DYK today. Shalom chaverim. On vacation, with something for your sweet tooth --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:03, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Today: Anna Nekhames, the article in which a reviewer found nothing interesting. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:36, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Today a friend's birthday, with related music and a few new vacation pics --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:47, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from NikolasMilchers (15:43, 4 January 2024)[edit]

Hello, I'd like to change the typo in this image: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromagnetic_absorption_by_water#/media/File:Absorption_coefficient_of_water.svg

I've already made a new file. --NikolasMilchers (talk) 15:43, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello NikolasMilchers and welcome to my talk page. Thank you for your question. If I may ask, could you explain the typo and is it changing the content of what the image is reflecting? --ARoseWolf 15:56, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
NikolasMilchers, I see a typo in the spelling of "wavelength". If that is your only change to the image I would agree that is a good edit. --ARoseWolf 16:16, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think so too. The problem is that the original file belongs to a profile that is no longer used.
I could request that my "new" file overwrites the old one. Would that be OK? NikolasMilchers (talk) 16:47, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you![edit]

The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
I bestow this award to you, ARoseWolf, for creating and maintaining the cat gallery associated with the kitties who keep an eye on my talkpage. What a kind thing for someone to do. Know that the cats and I and cat lovers of the world appreciate you and what you do. This barnstar is a small token of thanks for a big act of kindness. A Request[edit]

I wonder if you might have the time to give a look to the draft of an article that I am working on in my sandbox...User:Buster7/sandbox-Zachary Rapp-Rovan. I learned article creation from User:SusunW many years ago but was, admittedly, a poor student. Like my teachers told my parents back in high school..."He has the talent. He just doesn't apply himself." (Too busy being class clown, I guess). I created a few forgettable articles about female WPA muralists years ago but eventually forgot everything I learned. But now I have met a young visual artist that deserves his own article. As you will see, it is still a rough draft. I know this page is watched by some of the best editors in the business. Any attention or insights are welcome. His song and dance are unique. I don't want to mess it up. Thank you. Buster7 (talk) 05:13, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Still editing...[edit]

It was really kind of you to comment on my talk page, Asareel. I was a bit surprised to see you were still active at this time of year but see from Rosie's page that the weather is milder than usual. Hope things remain bearable for you. And all the best if you have to hibernate from Wikipedia.--Ipigott (talk) 15:06, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Casey2392 (21:16, 6 January 2024)[edit]

Hello I had a sand box article but lost it. How can I recover it?? --Casey2392 (talk) 21:16, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Check your "User Contributions". Your edits to the sandbox should be listed there (if you saved them). Buster7 (talk) 14:09, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do not come to my talk page[edit]

Do not come to my talk page attempting to harass me for your online friend account Yuchitown. This is unacceptable behavior. Dtreu99 (talk) 23:31, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dtreu99, what is unacceptable behavior is making false accusations and attempting to force something in the encyclopedia that isn't supported by reliable sources. I am my own person and Yuchitown did not ask me to do anything. Cusabo is among nearly 260 Wikipedia articles on my watchlist and I was responding to offer you guidance. If you feel you are being harassed by anyone you can take your complaint to WP:ANI and see if administrators and the community agree with you. I will honor your request to stay off your talk page but that does not alleviate you of your requirement to follow Wikipedia policy. --ARoseWolf 12:42, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sunshine[edit]

Just now while scrolling through my watch list your name caught my eye, making me smile. Sending you southern sunshine, the twitter of birds, and my thoughts for your continued well-being. SusunW (talk) 18:14, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW, I could use some of that southern sunshine about right now. The days are getting longer, if only slightly every day. But we will have high temps around -27°c and lows around -32°c the rest of the week. I may have to wear a long sleeve shirt if this keeps up. lol --ARoseWolf 21:06, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OMG. I'd be wrapped in a parka with 6 (maybe 16) pairs of socks. It's 27°c here. No minuses in sight. SusunW (talk) 21:45, 8 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How do I get the courage and confidence to make an Edit?[edit]

I am having trouble getting the confidence to make an edit because I am worried I might make a mistake and misinform people or anger people. What should I do? A-Neurodivergent-NerdyWeeb (talk) 16:00, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Be Bold. I know that it seems scary but as long as you keep yourself open to allow others to critique and you learn from their critique and apply those things with a good attitude you will not have an issue. I have made countless mistakes but I allow for that and I only challenge things I really feel I'm right on. I still have to allow for the possibility I am wrong on those and be objective enough to see it. But, A-Neurodivergent-NerdyWeeb, you can't edit in fear. Go for it! Just make sure if it is adding new content you have reliable sources to cite and if it is gnome-ish work you are compliant with MOS requirements as much as possible. The worst that can happen is you get reverted. You are not going to be blocked for making good faith non-disruptive edits with the intent to improve the encyclopedia. If you have any further questions I am here until the end of the month when I go on break for a while but will be back. --ARoseWolf 16:29, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was wondering what a gnome-ish work is? A-Neurodivergent-NerdyWeeb (talk) 17:06, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@A-Neurodivergent-NerdyWeeb:, Things like copyediting. See Wikipedia:WikiGnome --ARoseWolf 17:12, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! A-Neurodivergent-NerdyWeeb (talk) 19:43, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Strawberries of Thanks![edit]

Sorry[edit]

Sorry that you had to endure accusations by Dtreu99. Hope everything else is going well and that you are enjoying your New Year! Yuchitown (talk) 18:04, 9 January 2024 (UTC)Yuchitown[reply]

Yuchitown, accusations never bother me but thank you. You did not ask me to do anything or get involved so their accusation can be quickly dismantled. I want to protect the integrity of the encyclopedia even when I am against what is written. Not saying I am in this case but I have disagreed with Wikipedia before. I still would defend what is written if it follows policy. In regards to my New Year its going okay thus far. I am leaving at the end of the month and will be gone for a little while on winter break, at least until the thaw in late march early April it seems. I hope things are going well for you. --ARoseWolf 18:09, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How do you make this welcome message[edit]

Hello, ARoseWolf, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like it here and decide to stay. I'm Asareel, your mentor. Each new Wikipedia account receives a mentor randomly taken from a list of volunteers. It just means I'm here to help with anything you need! You can reach out to me on my talk page if you ever have any questions about editing. Here are some other links you may find helpful:

On the off-chance where I'm unavailable, you can ask further questions at the Teahouse, a friendly environment where new users can receive answers from experienced editors. You may also want to check out our public sandbox, where you can make test edits of any kind. Always remember to sign your posts with your username; you do so by placing four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your message. Once again, welcome! --ARoseWolf 19:03, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

 Xan ✨ talk 18:50, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

XanSurnamehere, Hello and welcome to my talk page. You just created it the same way as I do. As far as how the message is made itself, I didn't create it but copied it from Perfect4th. They did such a superb job at creating this template. I know they will try to answer any questions you may have. You are always welcome to come back here if you think I can help you with anything. --ARoseWolf 19:12, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
XanSurnamehere, it's a template substituted from an individual userpage. Mine is found at User:Perfect4th/Welcome Mentor (ripped off from Panini!'s). You can see the wikitext for it from the Edit tab, and any mentor can use it for their mentees – they just have to change the user listed to themselves. Does this answer your question? Happy editing! Perfect4th (talk) 16:22, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, thanks to both of you! Another question: are mentors part of Wikipedia:Teahouse/Hosts?  Xan ✨ talk 19:30, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
XanSurnamehere, Teahouse hosts and mentors are separate. Many hosts are mentors but mentors are part of Wikipedia:Growth Team features and hosts are obviously part of the Teahouse. --ARoseWolf 17:41, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

edit at User talk:Peshewapope[edit]

I don’t like to edit other users comments but your edit “Those who have a COI are not expressly forbidden from editing articles with which they have a COI thought it is strongly encouraged.” at User talk:Peshewapope doesn’t seem to parse? Theroadislong (talk) 18:09, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Theroadislong. It is fixed. I have a quirky relationship with the English language. Sometimes I feel I'm allergic to it. --ARoseWolf 18:21, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ha haa it can be a tricky beast and spell check is sometimes not our friend. Cheers. Theroadislong (talk) 18:32, 12 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for your offer of help to an editor who really needs it (and a friend here)[edit]

I'd like to but I don't have time. I'm sure you understand why. I'd like to find them a mentor. Doug Weller talk 12:30, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Doug Weller, I left a message on their talk page. Doug, I completely understand and would count it an honor to mentor them for you if I am given the opportunity. You are an amazing editor, a humble administrator, and a valued friend. You have greatly impacted my life and I appreciate you very much. I have brought you up in my morning songs everyday since you informed us what was happening in your life. I struggle with the fact I can't take away these pains from people I care about but I can make the burden lighter in small ways like this. The way I approach everything is anyone who comes in contact with me allows me to be a Rainbow for them, even if only for brief moments and whether they accept it or not. It is what I am and a way to share my gifts with those around me. I do hope you find rest and peace. --ARoseWolf 12:54, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your comments about me are uplifting. I see you've volunteered. I don't think you have to be an official mentor though. It looks as though that page is recruiting people who want to mentor anyone, but I'm not sure. There's nothing stopping you from mentoring though. It would be great if you could, you'd be excellent. Doug Weller talk 15:13, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Doug Weller, they have agreed and I claimed them. By having them activate the Growth Team features it will give them options of edits to make but more importantly it will provide them a way to ask questions from their homepage which will automatically post to my talk page. The added bonus is I will easily be able to locate and help them with their edits from the Mentor Dashboard. My words are meant to be uplifting for you and show you that you have an incredible legacy here. --ARoseWolf 15:52, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What to do?[edit]

I posted a recap of the socks here, but I don't think anyone is going to do anything. The socks mainly just pontificate on talk pages. wp:warn has a stock warning to not use talk pages as forums. Other than that, perhaps ignoring might be the best response? No point in wasting time/energy on long, repetitive conversations on talk pages. Or perhaps you know administrators who might have advise? Yuchitown (talk) 19:29, 22 January 2024 (UTC)Yuchitown[reply]

Yuchitown, You are right. I've said my last comment about it. I just reverted an IP edit I suspect is a someone editing logged out at Lily Gladstone. --ARoseWolf 19:37, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
