Interview with Wikimedia Foundation[edit]

Hi SilkTork, I hope you're well. My name is Aaron and I'm one of the Storytellers working on the 2011 fundraiser for the Wikimedia Foundation. For this year's campaign, we're interviewing as many of the very active and productive Wikipedians as we can to broaden the range of appeals we run come November. I wonder if you would want to tell me more about your experiences editing and writing here? If so, I'll ask you your personal story and I'll ask you some general questions about Wikipedia. Please let me know if you're interesting by emailing amuszalski@wikimedia.org. Thanks! Aaron (WMF) (talk) 01:05, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm quite happy to help the Foundation raise money. You can email me your questions, or I'm quite happy to answer them here. SilkTork ✔Tea time 15:25, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Interview[edit]

Hello Aaron, I got your note on 23rd, and replied to it immediately using your Wikimedia email address. Since I did not yet hear anything back, I am leaving this note just in case my email evaporated into cyberspace... Yes I am willing to do the interview. I see that Matthew also left me a similar note yesterday evening and then erased it when he noticed you had already left me one. I just now left him a message explaining that if you didn't get my reply then I don't mind if he interviews me instead. Whatever works. Best, Invertzoo (talk) 13:05, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Interview[edit]

Hi Aaron. Although the invitation is flattering, I value my anonymity too much to risk it in an interview. I'll continue to make big contributions as a volunteer editor and small contributions as a donor and hope for the best. Good luck with the fundraising. Understood - Thank you for getting back to me, and thank you for all you do for Wikipedia! Aaron (WMF) (talk) 00:54, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Interview[edit]

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for the kind offer of an interview, but I was already interviewed by Matthew (WMF) about a month ago. :) Miyagawa (talk) 19:35, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Scheduling telephone interview[edit]

Thank you for replying to my invitation to participate in our storytelling project. Would you be available to speak with me over the telephone soon? Interviews typically take between 30 and 90 minutes, and can be scheduled at your convenience. I even still have interview slots available today, as well as on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Aaron (WMF) (talk) 18:13, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm just off to the pub tonight, then early(ish) bed as I have a marathon tomorrow. Monday I'm out. Tuesday I have something in the morning, but should be free early afternoon, depending on my young daughter. I can try and keep an hour free between 2 and 3. I'll email you my mobile number. Topic related to The Beatles[edit]

Hello. My permission to use materials of the website was taken (got): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:OTRS_noticeboard#Permission_to_use_materials_related_to_The_Beatles . This is my text:
Attention, please! The man, who gave the permission, does not abandon him. The unhealthy situation now, possible, is the result of pressure those, who exercise the lobby for companies Apple Corps and Emi. It's only a guess. Exist hundreds of keys for only 1 gate: big number of ways to use the possibility, which currently allowed. Owners of the website beatles1.ru suggest next ways (list is not full here): fair use, additional license, public domain, cache, codes HTML outside of the website, deletion of material, which gives rise to doubts, change of conception of the website and so on...... Any human, who can create useful conditions on the website, including legal, has option to do it without problems. He will get the password. Creativity of The Beatles lays at your feet. You took permission, several days ago. If you want, you can wait 20 year else. This is your right and selection. As result: the permission to use the materials of the website beatles1.ru currently in force. Any questions: beatles80@yandex.com, or here. Thanks. - 2.93.89.18 (talk) 04:49, 14 November 2011 (UTC).
What do I do next? Thanks ! - 78.106.63.246 (talk) 19:37, 15 November 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Need help from the Foundation[edit]

Hi Aaron,

You talked to me on the phone a while ago. I'm needing access to a certain form of data from WMF about English WP with a view to organizing content writers. I'm looking to correspond with Sue Gardner or some other individual with a similar worldview expressed in her recent speech to the Exec of the UK Wikimedia group (i.e. that "rogue administrators" are a big problem, that WP's quality control system is being played like a video game with high collateral damage in the form of content contributors driven off, and that WP is facing a problem with declining participation of serious content contributors).

These are matters of some sensitivity and I need to communicate off-wiki by private email, not via UserTalk, which is a public forum with fairly strict censorship. I'd prefer to communicate with Gardner herself since I'm convinced she's sympatico in terms of analysis and may be sympathetic in delivering the data which I seek. But if there is someone in the decision-making circle at WMF that shares her views, that would work fine, too.

Thanks,
