Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Abbottonian. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article GetFiveStars, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. Lemongirl942 (talk) 03:11, 14 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article Jacob's War has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Self-published book with no indication that it meets the notability guideline for books or the general notability guideline. The sources do not show notability - they consist of one interview with the author on a website with questionable notability and one press release.

Highgate Private Hospital[edit]

I think it is entirely unreasonable to delete an article within 2 hours of giving notice. I would be obliged if you would restore it so it can be properly considered. Rathfelder (talk) 18:25, 27 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'll go along with its deletion, but what about redirecting this to Rioplatense Spanish? Bearian (talk) 00:14, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Bearian: thats a great idea. Will you go for redirecting it right away or after deletion? Abbottonian (talk) 12:59, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I did it just now per WP:BOLD. Bearian (talk) 17:05, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of April Malmsteen page[edit]

Hi Abbottonian,

Could you explain why you decided to revert the April Malmsteen page back to an Yngwie Malmsteen redirect? The decision was made almost four years ago and I feel that it's outdated. Congobongoman (talk) 15:57, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Congobongoman: if 'outdated' was a reason to re-instate page then Wikipedia admin would not have reverted it back to old revision per this. Abbottonian (talk) 16:17, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Abbottonian: Not sure that I follow. It just seems to me that the deletion is unwarranted as April has become more prominent since that decision was made. I feel a redirect is inappropriate as Yngwie Malmsteen and April Malmsteen are not the same person. Congobongoman (talk) 16:30, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, you can't A9 that, as the performers have an article here. A9 is a double criterion, and both parts must be there. The record must be non-notable, and I can see no sign in the article that it is. However, the band has an article and that means no to A9. It looks like a waste of space for an article, and AfD might lead to deletion or someone improving it. IMO there are too many of these articles about records. Things like Rubber Soul, yes. Most other things that are a simply track listings (which is hardly needed for a single...) are no use to anyone. Peridon (talk) 17:09, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for clarification. Abbottonian (talk) 05:07, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

De Nios lyrikpris[edit]

What do you mean by "because it's a biography of a living person that lacks references"? De Nios lyrikpris is not a biographic article. You should look at the talk page of the article. By the way, where can I find the discussion about others comments regarding if the article should be kept or not? --Vannucci (talk) 17:15, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Vannucci: There isn't a discussion. PROD (WP:PROD) is a deletion request format that is either declined, or is left to run seven days, followed by deletion by an admin. WP:AFD is the discussion place for articles that someone considers not suitable. That too lasts seven days, and there can be several possible outcomes. BLP-PROD is a variant of PROD for biographies of living people that have no reference. PROD tags may be removed by anyone, including the creator of the article, but speedy deletion tags may not be removed by the creator, and BLP-PROD may only be removed by anyone when the article contains a reference. Unless, that is, the BLP-PROD was wrongly applied, as in this case. (Speedy tags should not be removed by creators even if wrong - the reviewing admin or another patroller will see to that. AfD must be contested at AfD, and a totally wrong tagging will be sorted fairly quickly.) I will say that the article in question does need referencing to something rather more independent than a very closely related website - please see WP:RS. Saying 'look at the website' is not an accepted Wikipedia way of referencing. Outside links may decay - we need info to be here. Peridon (talk) 20:54, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Good to know, thank you! --Vannucci (talk) 21:30, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion activity[edit]

First, welcome as a new user. But I've been looking at some of your article deletion activity and for example this: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Kikan_Namara&oldid=744427609 suggests you might want to get more experience in notability guidelines and also perhaps in creating articles before proposing for deletion. Just a suggestion. In ictu oculi (talk) 20:44, 29 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I got it. Thanks for the concern though! Abbottonian (talk) 05:07, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Given the article you just nominated for deletion, I really have to agree with him. You asked if I had questions about the nomination: Yes, I do. I'll give you the polite version: What are you thinking? Did you read the article? This band is deeply involved in important social movements, has many many releases, some of which were in the charts, and has been influential for 35 years... no nothing notable there, no, not at all. @In ictu oculi: just thought you should see this comment. Elinruby (talk) 06:24, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I admitted that I didn't read the article completely but just the lead. What is this fuss about? Abbottonian (talk) 06:27, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Let me try to explain it, calmly. Above all, you should read the article before you AfD it. A) this is a translation, which does not excuse its flaws, but this is how we create articles based on other wikis, we translate, then edit from the translation. It currently lacks references because the es.wikipedia article lacks references. Yes, this needs to be fixed but the article has only been in the article space for a few minutes -- maybe an hour by now -- and the translation is also work and I need a break. Yes, it's a bit of a list; again, this reflects the state of the spanish article. I can see that the article as it sits assumes that you realize how famous some of the musicians are, and yes, this is something the editing needs to address.
  • But. If you are questioning their notability you should have been familiar with the notability criteria for rock bands, and had you read the article -- or even skimmed it -- you might have discerned that they have a dozen or so releases on major and important indie labels. Which are listed in Discography, of all places. They only need one (1) record to be notable. They meet notability criteria in a number of other ways (important in Rock en tu idioma, La Onda, Rock en Mexico for one, famous and award-winning collaborators and singles in the charts, for others, and I suspect some awards of their own. Just for a start). I can sort of understand not seeing that, since the current article assumes you know who they are.
  • But. They only need to meet one of those criteria to be notable, and since the article lists out the dozen releases on important labels (ie Sony)....see, this is why you should read the articles you are assessing, before you delete a bunch of other people's work. Twelve is more than one so they meet that criterion and you were wrong to AfD. And afaik speedy delete is supposed to be for not-english, villages with 12 residents, and egregious BLP problems. Hopefully that helps.Elinruby (talk) 07:58, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just going to jump into this conversation and say, you really need to learn more about Wikipedia before you delete things. Your lack of knowledge is really showing. Llammakey (talk) 13:22, 30 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Abbottonian. I didn't use any references because I directly translated the Croatian Wikipedia's article about Barbara and there weren't any resources. I will do my best to find some website with the information about Barbara. I don't want the page to be deleted because it was shining that red letters at the page Croatia in the Eurovision Song Contest, so...I will do my best. Thanks, Mihitza78 (talk) 18:02, 31 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Mihitza78: Abbottonian is a new editor. Abbottonian, maybe it would be better if you could desist from all deletion activity of any article with an article on another language wiki. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:14, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@In ictu oculi: maybe learn a little about how wikipedia works? The comment from @Llammakey: above reflects an AfD that appears to have been equally wrongheaded. It was not a translation but was another specific category (navy, as I recall). New page patrol seems to be a problem for Wikipedia, but Abbottonian seems to be a shining example of why new editors should not be allowed to do it. Especially since I made an effort above to explain, and he apparently has done now the same thing to @Mihitza78: anyway Elinruby (talk) 11:53, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind, I found some "source" anyway... Mihitza78 (talk) 13:11, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
