Olenellus vermontanus (Your page on Paleontology in Vermont)[edit]

Hi, I noticed you use an image of Olenellus fowleri (that I uploaded), which occurs in Nevada and California on your page, probably to illustrate Olenellus vermontanus. This latter species has been reassigned by Lieberman (1999) to Mesonacis. That page has a photograph (right), (by Sam Gon III), that, although it is already quite extensively used, seems much better applicable on your page. An other file available that you may find usefull is a drawing of Bathynotus holopygus (left) from the publication in 1860 by James Hall, where the genus was first described on the basis of a specimen from Vermont. Hope this is of use. Dwergenpaartje (talk) 07:57, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Abyssal.

Thanks for your interest in the article. I already did some trimming and went over most of the sources. Feel free make the changes you believe are necessary. Thanks again. ComputerJA (talk) 10:24, 5 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's been a while[edit]

It's awesome to see you back! Abyssal (talk) 01:27, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Abyssal! Nice to see you, too! :) Firsfron of Ronchester 02:10, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, what's with all of the amazing "Paleontology in state X" articles, all of which you created on November 30th? Did you really write them all in one day? Seems unlikely, given the huge number of references added during the articles' creation. Nice work... are you going for a record? ;) Firsfron of Ronchester 05:32, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Really impressive work, Abyssal! Good luck with the record breaking attempt. I recently broke a Wikipedia record (with a non-paleontology article); it's fun and keeps things interesting. Firsfron of Ronchester 14:36, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Mine? Most citations on any Wikipedia page/most references in a list. Check out WP:RECORDS and List of former NTA Film Network affiliates in the United States (which isn't quite done yet, but which I hope to eventually get up to FL status). Firsfron of Ronchester 15:39, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Forgot to mention: if you do get the record, be sure to add the item to WP:RECORDS. :) Firsfron of Ronchester 20:12, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for asking me, Abyssal. I'd love to work on the review. You've done some great work in the past. I'm pretty busy tomorrow and Wednesday, but I may/will have scads of time after that. Firsfron of Ronchester 05:52, 11 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just so you know[edit]

Hi there. I don't believe we've met. I'm Francophonie&Androphilie. I'm relatively new here, but I'm notable for being one of the ten or so users who actually patrols the Article Feedback Tool logs regularly. So congratulations on being one of the only people to ever properly use the "flag as abuse" button! I was going through the list and found two spot-on flags of yours, both of which I hid. Anyways, I noticed that you're one of the many users who got a reviewer flag during the first pending changes trial, so it occurred to me that you might not be aware that that bit also enables you to hide feedback. Clearly you're the more experienced user here, so the only reason I'm telling you any of this is that practically no one knows much about AFTv5, especially when it comes to the monitor bit (which is bundled with rollbacker and reviewer). Or, if you did know all this (in which case I probably sound like a pompous ass), but were just looking for another monitor's input, you might want to take a look at WP:FRG, especially WP:FRG#Hiding and unhiding feedback - the two that I saw you flag were both blatant H3 (disruption) candidates, and since practically no one cares what happens with AFT, if you think it's a borderline case, you can probably just hide anyways. — Francophonie&Androphilie(Je vous invite à me parler) 18:44, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, there's still no way to do that. What I generally do is reply on their talk page with a link to the feedback submission (which you can find in the URL bar), and then, if their question wasn't related to article improvement, mark it as resolved. — Francophonie&Androphilie(Je vous invite à me parler) 19:27, 12 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hand-coding[edit]

Hey all :).

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyes@wikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).

If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 22:54, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your note; I have checked your additions and have now verified the article. I may review some of the others in the coming days/weeks, as I expect to be submitting some more DYKs of my own. Hassocks5489 (Floreat Hova!) 20:25, 21 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Less busy now?[edit]

Hey Abyssal,

I just saw your note about working 17 hours on Christmas Day. Hope all's well, and that you've been able to get some rest since then. I'll note that I've also verified your DYK hook using The Dinosauria 2nd edition, which verifies the hook itself. Firsfron of Ronchester 05:57, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Paleobotany stub[edit]

I think that it's worth adding your useful {{paleobotany-stub}} template to stub paleobotany articles, even where other stub templates are present (such as {{Silurian-stub}}, which you've been adding). It may encourage people like me who have written fuller paleobotany articles to go through Category:Paleobotany stubs and expand a few, whereas I wouldn't look at e.g. Category:Silurian stubs because I don't normally work on fossil animals.

By the way, there are quite a few stubs which User:Smith609 started which begin "GENUS_NAME was a genus of Silu-Devonian land plant with branching axes." When I have expanded some of these, it turned out that "Silu-Devonian" means "Silurian or Devonian or both" rather than "both", so they may not actually be Silurian. Discussion on the AFT5 Request for Comment[edit]

Hey Abyssal - this is to notify you that there is a discussion starting on the Article Feedback RfC talkpage that has ramifications for the RfC itself. Your input is much appreciated :). Thanks! and apologies if I've missed anyone Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 16:33, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nomination of Paleontology in the United States[edit]

Hello! Your submission of Paleontology in the United States at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Yoninah (talk) 18:09, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please also see review of Paleontology in California in the same DYK template. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 18:16, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Please also see review of Paleontology in North Dakota in the same DYK template. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 20:22, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Only 2 cites are holding up the whole nomination! Thanks for taking care of these at your earliest convenience. Best, Yoninah (talk) 23:21, 2 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again. We REALLY need to finish this nomination. If you can't add the cites, we'll either remove the paragraphs or take those articles out of the nomination. Yoninah (talk) 13:31, 5 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was wondering if you could find the proper page link for "saber-teeth" under the disambiguation page, Sabretooth. Best, Yoninah (talk) 20:47, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
