Blocking query[edit]

I blocked Cun2 before and seemed to have blocked an IP range too, (eek!). Could you help me, I have absolutely no idea how to fix it. Thanks in advance. Rudget. 18:27, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've unblocked Cun2, and checked if there were any autoblocks (none), but why the block in the first place? I can't see why this one needs blocking. Can you please clarify? Acalamari 18:46, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I was under the impression it was a sort of leet version of cunt. Therefore a username block. Rudget. 18:55, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I found the IP range and unblocked that too. Anyway, with this username, it's a borderline one at most, and one I think we should assume good faith with it. It may look like "cunt" but it could also just plainly be "Cun2". I'd advise against blocking this one, hence why I have not reblocked the account. Acalamari 18:58, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a million. Rudget. 19:00, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome, but please, unless you're absolutely sure a username violates the username policy, don't block it. If you're not sure about a name, try to discuss it with the user first, and if that doesn't work, take it to WP:RFCN. Username blocks can be very tricky. Acalamari 19:03, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

hey[edit]

wtf is wrong with u? I didnt vandalise, It was a constructive edit. proof it. --Kraasbouerg (talk) 20:11, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey[edit]

What I did was constructive. Tell me how it wasnt constructive please. --Kraasbouerg (talk) 20:10, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm: on a second review of this edit, it may not have been vandalism, but at the very least, the nickname for Michael Richards containing a slang word was unsourced and unnecessary. Acalamari 20:13, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Politically correct jerk. --Kraasbouerg (talk) 21:00, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Mind the personal attacks please: the nicknames were not sourced and therefore did not comply with our biography of living persons policy. Acalamari 21:34, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Rollback[edit]

I use Twinkle, which has the rollback function. Thanks for your offer, though. KJS77 22:06, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I know you use Twinkle. :) It's just that I can change your user rights from (none) to (rollbacker) which will give you the MediaWiki rollback, and it can be used alongside Twinkle. At any rate though, keep up your good anti-vandalism work. Acalamari 22:09, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try it. If I like it, I'll use it. If not, I'll just keep using Twinkle by itself. KJS77 22:12, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done. The best thing about rollback is that, while it can be given out easily, it can be taken away quickly too. Acalamari 22:15, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback[edit]

Hey, thanks for going ahead and granting me rollback. I am generally happy with old fashioned reverting, but had thought about looking into it whenever I had the time, which was probably going to be this very weekend. Warm regards, and happy editing. Hello! How are you? I'm fine :) Okay, i'll cut straight to the chase: can i request the rollback? Thanks! --Party (talk) 20:31, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. I'm fine as well, thanks. :) Remember that rollback is to be used on vandalism only, and is not to be used to edit-war or to revert good-faith edits. Good luck. Acalamari 20:35, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! --Party (talk) 21:34, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback[edit]

Hello Remember the dot, I have granted rollback rights to your account. The reason for this is that, after a review of some of your contributions, I can trust you to use rollback correctly. You know the difference between a good-faith edit and vandalism, so therefore, I can trust you not to use rollback abusively by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. If you don't want rollback, let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck. Acalamari 04:39, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting. I don't know if I'll use it much, but having it could prove useful. Thanks!
As a side note, I wish that I could block persistent vandals as well, but it doesn't look like that right can be granted separate from full adminship... —Remember the dot (talk) 05:14, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! I think there might have been proposals to give out individual blocking, protecting, and deleting rights in the past, but none of them gained consensus (at least, I think there were proposals, I'm not sure). As for your use of rollback, it doesn't matter how much you use it as long as you use it correctly. :) Good luck. Acalamari 20:20, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Rollback[edit]

Adding my Thanks for the rollback! to the list. :) TomasBat 13:49, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Another Rollback reply[edit]

Thanks for the offer and i will think about it. Simply south (talk) 17:26, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine: let me know when you decide. :) Acalamari 20:22, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just curious. Would it be installed on my account or the comp or both? (And why do i get this fishy feeling that i am talking to a squid...???) Simply south (talk) 20:26, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It would be installed on the account the moment I grant it: no software needs to be installed on your computer. It's a user rights change like adminship or bureaucratship. Acalamari 20:32, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(And that should be an anthropromorphic squid) Simply south (talk) 20:35, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If i do, i will possibly only use it sparingly. Glub! Simply south (talk) 21:28, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Rollback granted. Don't worry about using it rarely: I'd rather see it used occasionally and correctly rather than frequently and abused. See Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature for more information. If you decide at a later date that you don't want rollback, ask any admin, and they'll remove it for you. Good luck. Acalamari 21:32, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the rollback. I hope i use it wisely. Simply south (talk) 21:44, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. :) Don't worry, you'll be fine. :) Acalamari 21:46, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That was fast!. Is rollback only for consecutive edits or all edits to that page? Hopefully only former. Simply south (talk) 21:56, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Consecutive edits: if I make five edits to a page, and then press rollback after making those edits, it will revert all of my edits to the last person who edited the page before I did. Acalamari 17:08, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK. (And that was rather strange, i was just looking at this conversation when you replied... do you have an invisible webcam?...) 17:10, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
Ha, ha, no webcams here. :) Acalamari 17:13, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what's rollback? Sorry, I'm new to that. --Esanchez(Talk 2 me or Sign here) 00:10, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RfA Thanks[edit]

Hi Acalamari - thanks for your participation in my request for adminship. It passed 52/0/0, and I'm now in possession of a shiny new mop. If I can ever help you with anything, please don't hesitate to contact me. Sarcasticidealist (talk) 09:26, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

'crat[edit]

Are you a crat now?--SJP (talk) 12:37, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, I'm not: administrators have recently been given the ability to grant rollback, but making people admins, renaming users, and flagging bots is still a bureaucrat job, and I'm not a bureaucrat. Acalamari 17:16, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Rollback[edit]

I have to say that that's rather unexpected...just wanted to say thanks for the rights and I promise to use them well. --tennisman 14:07, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, I use Twinkle at home on my Firefox-enabled computer. I rollback with this and go to warn...what're the templates? (w/r/t the "Warn" function of twinkle) :-) --tennisman 14:15, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. :) The rollback I've given you doesn't come with warnings: it's just a rollback button. Rollback can be used alongside Twinkle. Acalamari 17:11, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I use IE at school, is what I meant, and cannot use Twinkle. Thus I have forgotten many of the warning templates. --tennisman 16:57, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The place to find warning templates is Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace. Hope that helps. Acalamari 17:08, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rudget![edit]

Dear Acalamari, my sincere thanks for your support in my second request for adminship, which ended with 113 supports, 11 opposes, and 4 neutral. I would especially like to thank my admin coach and nominator, Rlevse and Ryan Postlethwaite who in addition to Ioeth all inspired me to run for a second candidacy. I would also like to make a special mention to Phoenix-wiki, Dihyrdogen Monoxide and OhanaUnited who all offered to do co-nominations, but I unfortunately had to decline. I had all these funny ideas that it would fail again, and I was prepared for the worst, but at least it showed that the community really does have something other places don't. Who would have though Gmail would have been so effective? 32 emails in one week! (Even if it does classify some as junk :P) I'm glad that I've been appointed after a nail biting and some might call, decision changing RFA, but if you ever need anything, just get in touch. The very best of luck for 2008 and beyond, Rudget. 16:38, 15 January 2008 (UTC) [reply]

Rollback[edit]

My thanks for the addition of the rollback facility to my account; looks like I've got some reading to do! --Kateshortforbob 19:48, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. :) Good luck. Acalamari 19:49, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Yes I'm verging on 100,000 edits, although I will have to reduce my editing more in the future. I refused adminship before, and many people know that I don't wish to become an admin although I practically function as one. Certain admin tools I could have would be useful particularly wen you know how constructive an editor I am. One of the things was when I create new articles often in bulk it clogs up the new pages meaning they have to be patrolled when I always create decent content ans mos toften with a number of references. Is there some way my new articles could be unhiglighted like an admin? -it would save other editor s alot of effort in checking. Thanks -I too need to read up on it regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 19:50, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. :) Yes, you do create a lot of new pages: I think I read somewhere that you have created more new articles than anyone else: impressive work. However, to my knowledge, I don't know of anything that will automatically mark articles you create as patrolled. It's possible that there may be a user script, but I don't know if anyone has written one like that. Acalamari 19:55, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Glad you noticed!!! However I;d like to nominate a user who I think wikipedia would benefit from having the roll back feature even more so than myself. Please check the editing history of User:Shshshsh. A lot of his editing time involved having to revert the bad edits of vandals and IP address on the Bollywood film star pages. I would strongly recommend that he is given this feature - I think he can be trsued and would only use it in good faith - as it would make his protection of many of the core Bollywood pages easier. Just see how many reverts he has to do on a daily basis from vandals . Regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 20:22, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestion. Anyway, Shshshsh does a lot of reverts, and many good, but there are some I reviewed which didn't look like vandalism reversion to me and I believe there should have been an explanation to the reverts, see [1], [2], and [3]. In those reverts, I think he should have left a reason in the edit summary to why he reverted them. Rollback is supposed to be for reverting vandalism only, and if an edit may require an explanation, rollback shouldn't be used, as rollback doesn't leave any explanation other than "reverted edits by X to last version by Y". I think with Shshshsh, I'll leave a note on his talk page first before granting him rollback. Acalamari 21:19, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for giving me the rollback function too, it is very fast. Jackaranga (talk) 21:01, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, although I don't think I will be using it often; I needed a new account for class demonstration. PS. Plus I thought I should reserve the bot account for some future use.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 22:22, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine then: I saw the name come up in the new user log, and thought I'd ask. I've welcomed some of the accounts created to do with the class. Good luck with your teaching then. :) Acalamari 22:24, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I will be adding an entry to WP:SUP soon; I've went over adding licensing to images but I am sure there will be issues with that, too.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 22:25, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea. If you need anything, let me know, and I'll see if I can help out or not. Good luck with the project, and with the images. :) Acalamari 22:29, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it looks like I'm here for the same purpose as the person above me, but that doesn't diminish how I feel! Thanks for the tool!! I just recently discovered what "recent changes" meant, and I have been patrolling it a lot. I will be very nice be able to use Rollback. Thanks again, J.delanoygabsadds 19:02, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! I noticed your name show up on a page I have on my watchlist, saw you did a lot of reverting in your contributions, reviewed some of your reverts, and after being pleased with your correct vandalism-reversions, I decided that rollback would benefit you. :) Good luck. I, too, would like to thank you for offering me Rollback, which saves me having to request it. thank you for recognition[edit]

Thank you for the recognition and granting of rollback privileges. I didn't even ask for it. It's better than Santa Claus giving presents because everyone expects him to come. You're very welcome, Mrs.EasterBunny. Regarding use of the tool, it doesn't matter if you only use it once or twice a day, or even one or twice a week: as long as you use it only for reverting vandalism, then it will be a benefit for Wikipedia for you having the tool. :) Good luck. Rollback[edit]

For reasons that I will not, lest your eyes should glaze over, recite here, but that I have set forth on occasion elsewhere, I have a few objections to the conferrence of rollback under the current schema, and, so, I should appreciate your -rollbacking me whenever you have a moment. Many thanks, Joe 22:49, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Sorry about that. Acalamari 22:51, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ha, ha. :) Well, issues like this are ones best responding to as soon as possible rather than delaying them. It only takes about ten seconds (if that) to remove rollback, and about 30 seconds to write a small response. :) Acalamari 22:58, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Rollback[edit]

Hi. Thank you so much for granting me rollback rights. Since I am new to this, I may have to check the diff with popups or something before I use it. If I think there is a chance it isn't vandalism, I'll either not revert, use popups, or use the undo or edit links in the diffs. I frequently notice vandalism in my watchlist, so I think it should be quite helpful. However, I can't seem to quite grasp the idea of how it could revert subsequent edits by a single user if someone has editted after that or something. Well, I have to go now. Thanks. ~AH1(TCU) 13:50, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You had your own article and you never told me :O.. I'am really very very Jealous ..Good Job :P ..--Cometstyles 21:03, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yep: front page news as well (seriously!). There are a few factual errors in the article unfortunately, but it's good overall. It looks like the two recent comments about the article were left by a user who is banned here. Acalamari 21:16, 18 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll just reply here now: the page has been created, but the nomination will be expanded soon. :) Acalamari 03:26, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Replied to the latest one just now. - Zeibura (Talk) 04:37, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Genres[edit]

The user continues to change the genre. Charmed36 (talk) 03:43, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know, and if necessary, the pages can all be protected, but "Wikipedia administrators" did not ask for the genres to remain the same, and I had to remove that. Acalamari 04:05, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well someone needs to stop that user. Charmed36 (talk) 04:08, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, but putting in hidden text saying that Wikipedia administrators object to the genre change won't help, as the user will ignore it and remove it. If this keeps up, the pages can be protected from sockpuppet attacks, which is what this user is doing: using sockpuppets to change the genres. I myself have blocked at least two of the user's socks. Acalamari 04:13, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is not only with the ones you have blocked. There are other new editors too who are changing genres. But they are doing so with IP address. Are there any guidelines on wikipedia for genres? If there are, then i would be glad if you could inform me. Thank you. Indianescence (talk) 05:40, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's actually the problem. We don't have a concrete source to back up our claims with genres. Others just add the genre to the best of their knowledge. --BritandBeyonce (talk) 06:00, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AAAAH! It has started all over again. This user is again changing genres. I AM TIRED OF REVERTING THEM!! Even s/he doesnt get tired of chaging genres. If i source a particular genre, then this person has a different genre with a different source for it. It is getting on my nerve. Help required. Zeibura[edit]

Would you be okay if I seconded your nomination? Or would you prefer me to add as a "support"? FT2 (Talk | email) 05:23, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, Acalamari, looks like I wasn't polite enough to ask you first, but I've already added a co-nomination. (Hope you don't mind ;)) Quite disappointed I'm not the first one to create the nom though...I wonder who here had offered to nominate Zeibura first. - PeaceNT (talk) 07:39, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

thanks...[edit]

Thank you for the welcome, I will do my best to make wikipedia a safer place and it was a nice birthday pressie for me!!!--Teenage wikian v2 (talk) 12:22, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, it seems you've been blocked indefinitely. Oh well. Acalamari 18:57, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for rollback[edit]

A belated thanks for granting me rollback. Zginder (talk) (Contrib) 15:16, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome for rollback. :) Acalamari 18:58, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback[edit]

  • My very first rollback edit was to revert your post to my talk page. Oops! ^_^; So it doesn't ask you for confirmation or anything? Hmm... well, let's see how it works for a few days. :) Thanks JuJube (talk) 07:55, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • You're welcome. :) Yes, there is no confirmation screen with rollback: it just reverts the edit, which is why you have to be careful with rollback, but since you do a lot of vandal-fighting, rollback will be a big help to you. :) Good luck. Acalamari 19:16, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hobbs[edit]

Hey, just so you know, I think this probably is Mary Anne Hobbs, she's edited her article under several different user names (see the page history). I've reverted back to the first of her three recent edits (changing the date of the Pete Tong show) as it says the same thing on her myspace, I know it's not really a reliable source, but it makes it better supported that the show's on 07/02 than 30/01, which is probably factually inaccurate. This could potentially be a really nasty COI case though (i'm still not convinced by the birth date) so I have been keeping watch on it and thanks for doing so yourself too. - Zeibura (Talk) 20:18, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the infomation regarding Mary Anne Hobbs: I actually caught that account in the new user log. Acalamari 21:29, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
