There's a question would be I want to ask.[edit]

Hello, I've seen many wikipedia pages that unofficial pages have been given as external links. Even social media pages such as facebook fanpages and the other fan pages which are non-social media pages. Could we give that unofficial pages as external links on the pages ? Please check this a few example, the unofficial pages have been given as external links:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miami_Vice#External_links https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Johnson#External_links https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Steele_(musician)#External_links https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susanna_Hoffs#External_links https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bangles#External_links https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scorpions_(band)#External_links https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airwolf#External_links https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Person_of_Interest_(TV_series)#External_links

I gave facebook fanpage's link as external link on tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanun_Namına_(dizi) (Miami Vice tv series's Turkish Wikipedia Page) but the mods deleted. I've got it back a few times and lastly they blocked me 'cause of vandalism (Violation of Wikipedia Rules) on tr.wikipedia.org. The Turkish Mods are always creating problems. They've been making usurpation of powers. I don't know how can I inform-complaint to original en.wikipedia.org management. Besides they've been ignoring the rules for their own. Example, there's a mod called "Sakhalinio" always creates football team pages especially related some Turkish football team called Fenerbahçe. He always brokes the rules. Doesn't call this "double standard" ? We informed him to Turkish Attendant Complaint Page but the others've been saving his back. Before he blocked our account supposed we did copyright violation. We only uploaded the images and they didn't violate any copyrights. If I'm wrong in this case then why the unofficial pages've been given as external links on the pages which I metioned above ?

Best Regards, --Vicenarcotics (talk) 07:23, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:ELNO for a discussion of the English Wikipedia's advice on external links to be avoided. In general, external links should be added sparingly, and only to external sites that offer serious, substantial content that extends the encyclopedic content of the article. Fansites are generally discouraged, and should be added on a case-by-case basis where they are clearly superior to the usual fan content.
As for the Turkish Wikipedia, I have no knowledge of their policies or actions and have no influence there, nor would anybody else on the English Wikipedia. Acroterion (talk) 11:31, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You mean the policies of Turkish Wikipedia are different ? I thought wikipedia platform is an international page. Means that the rules're valid for all language and the same. There's a mod called "Eldarion" has taken our account's permission and putted white list because of this. We've sent an e-mail to him, said "we're gonna inform all of your acts to US Wikipedia Admins". He's answered to us with this way "Say hello from me to US Admins" You see the case. They think theirselves untouchable. Don't have any idea what would I do... --Vicenarcotics (talk) 09:34, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

gamergate[edit]

I'm here to tell you that my reference to the phelps family is in the sense of COi. I said that only excepting edits by someone with a pro-feminist view to a gamergate related article would be like only excepting edits to the WBC article by the phelps family. Your lack of understanding of my comment doesn't mean much, but it just means you need to review what I said. Both cases would involve a COI. PHerhaps the PHelps family wasn't the best example, but it still applies that if we only allow one set of views on an article then either the editors pushing those views would have a COI or the article needs POV tags. I also on the same page where I mention the phelps faily use myself as an example. I'm a pilot for WestJet Airlines, and have been since 2008. I love working for WestJet and plan to for as long as I can (i'm 32 years old and still have quite a few more years of flying ahread of me.) If I was to start patrolling the WestJet article given my obvious pro-WestJet views, and I started redacting the insidents section or anything that may look bad in any way, then that would be pushing my POV and I'd have a conflict of interest. If alls you got on that comment is a misreading of it just because I mention the phelps family, then that's your fault not mine. I never compared anyone to the phelps family, I said that it would be a COI if we only allowed them to edit WBC related articles in the same way as it would be COI to only except edits by a pro-feminist article to gamergate. I've never said "feminists are like the phelps family." ever at all. Again, your misreading of my comment is purely your fault in mising the fact that I never said that feminists are like WBC. also people forget that I'm not too please with gamergate's side either.

On the subject of sources, I'm in the process of compiling a list of links i'm going to post on some talkpages soon, once I'm satisfied that I got enough. Right now it's in a word document. I'm not going to list points too detailed about these links, but I will give my brief summary of how each one relates to the article. So I am doing that. You'll see it when my list is complete.

Eric Ramus — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.101.61.70 (talk) 04:51, 17 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You clearly don't understand what a conflict of interest is in this context: a COI is when you derive a benefit from making certain edits, as in being paid by an employer or client. It is not a COI to have an opinion, as you clearly do. By your standards anyone at all with an opinion, including you, has no business editing a given subject. We all have opinions, and we must set them aside when editing. You are attempting to exclude editors whom you view as presenting a point of view that differs from yours by alleging a conflict of interest while presenting your own point of view as objectively neutral. Neutrality is derived from a preponderance of sources, not from the opinions of individual editors. So far you have been appear to have been attempting an argument from semantics, not from sourcing.
Stop alleging a conflict of interest against other editors, particularly when you are using the allegation to gain an advantage by excluding editors you perceive to disagree with you.
I did not misread your comment about the Phelps family: you made a wholly inappropriate comparison on at least two levels, and you will be sanctioned if you do that again. There are an infinite number of inoffensive comparisons you could have made, but you chose a deeply offensive analogy, which can't be an accient. Acroterion (talk) 14:28, 17 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

kid kid kid kid kid. You clearly don't get it. If a feminist comes along and wants to make achange to the Anita Sarkeesian article in order to push a feminist POV then that is POV pushing and their feminist oppinion presents a COI because they're using said feminist oppinion to push the idea that Anita Sarkeesian is always the victim let's say. IN the same way, if I was editing the WestJet article, and because I work for WJ and want people to fly with them, I decide to remove any references to insidents, then that too would be a COI on my part. Whether or not the people at West Jet paid me is regardless, I'd be trying to make the article non-neutral. IN comparison, what I proposed to Tropes vs. Women in Video Games was a re-wording of the sentance, to say "backlash and sexist harassment" rather than just "sexist harassment." How is that pushing my POV? I personally think she got almost no "sexist harassment" for that kick starter, that came after the vids came out. However, I'm not putting that because I don't know what was said. Also what about the fact that that source they're defending on the tropes vs. women in video games talk page that says the part about harassment is a god damn blog? Everybody seams to ignore that in favor of the status quo. and "semantics"? you sound like you're trying to accuse me of pushing the gamergate side which I disagree with. I have nothing to gain from editing that sentance, except a feeling that I helped Wikipedia make an article look more neutral. look at all my comments on the tropes vs. women talk page, since you'd rather stock me than deal with the article. ok kid?

Eric Ramus — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.101.61.70 (talk) 00:01, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not interested in arguments in either direction, I'm addressing conduct and your misunderstanding of what a conflict of interest is, along with your continued misunderstanding of what administrators do and don't do. We don't adjudicate content. Use the talkpage, provide sources, and stop accusing those who disagree with you of a conflict of interest. And please learn how to sign your posts. No, if it's not notable enough for an article it's not notable enough for a list. Acroterion (talk) 12:01, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the reply. Actually there are similar websites listed on comparison shopping such as Priceoye.pk, Zippooh.com. Can you tell why they are listed? Thanks again. Sharjeelashraf (talk) 12:03, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed a couple with no articles, thanks for spotting that. I'm not convinced that Priceoye is notable, but since it's received some press in major papers it's something that would need to be deleted through a formal deletion discussion if consensus agrees that that's not enough.. Douglas Warrick deletion request[edit]

Hi. I was just wondering if you could delete the Douglas Warrick page. The person Douglas Warrick is my father, and he does not like having a wiki page because it contains false info about his early life and work. People also think he created it himself to let others know he is a famous biologist. He did not create it himself; it was apparently created by a guy called Robinh who I do not know at all. My dad is not a famous biologist and does not want people to start asking him questions about what he does (this has been happening frequently ever since his page was created). He tried to delete it himself but was blocked from editing because this was taken as vandalism, and I can't delete it because I have no administrator privileges, so would you be kind enough to delete it for us?

-Thanks! User:Anderswarr 01:37, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm - take a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Douglas Warrick, which was closed as a keep in 2009 (and very complementary of his work). You could try putting it up for deletion discussion again, but I can't just delete it out of hand, and deletion discussions tend to attract attention. In general, folks are sympathetic to the wishes of someone who's not a public figure who'd rather not be on WP, but it's still a tough sell. As a start, we can cut out the material that's wrong. How about you or your dad emailing me privately about this for the sake of your privacy and your father's (you don't appear to have email enabled on your account)? Valhalla train crash[edit]

I have A LOT of firsthand information on this incident, and probably the best independent private archive (other than anything held by NTSB etc) on the Valhalla train crash of February 3rd, 2015. I'm willing to add a lot of in depth material to the page.

However, if my material keeps getting altered and deleted, I will refrain from sharing my research and experiences as a firefighter with Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Laststopvalhalla (talkcontribs) 03:43, 23 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Laststopvalhalla: Ordinarily I don't like responding to people on a third person's talk page, but in the interests of keeping this nascent discussion together, I will do it this time.
  • First, as regards your material being repeatedly "altered and deleted", please take a look again at the text above the edit window: "Work submitted to Wikipedia can be edited, used, and redistributed—by anyone—subject to certain terms and conditions." You agree to this when you edit and save your work. You cannot opt out of it. If you don't like these terms then you don't have to edit, as you seem to understand.
  • Second, to the specific edit of mine you reverted. "Encyclopedic" doesn't mean everything. I have deleted the numbers of the cars involved in the accident, as (I suspect) has Acroterion, because that information has not been shown as having any relevance to the incident itself; therefore it doesn't have to be in the article; that's too much detail. It is thus indiscriminate information and by general consensus reading of our editorial policies shouldn't be in the article, anymore than, say, the exact air temperature at the time and place of the accident would be. I apologize for not being able to explain this to you earlier to this level for lack of space in the edit-summary field
  • Lastly, it does sound like you have a lot of firsthand info on the accident. But our policies on firsthand material as article sourcing is, uh, sort of complex; I wouldn't say you can't use it, but it takes some care. And I would also commend this page to your attention.

It is possible that some of what you have might be relevant to the article and usable as a source ... but the point of Wikipedia is to be an encyclopedia, not a repository. There are other Wikimedia Foundation projects where some of this source material might be more appropriate; I can certainly help direct you to them if you'd like. If not, nothing's stopping you from putting together a website of your own, which might at least qualify as an external link.

(Honestly, I'd be interested in what you have, if for no better reason other than to see if any of it touches on a theory I have, and that I've heard floating around Westchester when I've been down there since then and alluded to in comments sections, about a possible indirect contributing cause to the crash that I'm not comfortable talking about publicly at the moment). SharkSSL Page Nominated for Deletion and Harrassment[edit]

Acroterion, you kindly helped me to get SharkSSL page in order when it was looking like advertising, etc. and made even edits to contribute and make it better. This editor MSJapan keeps attacking anything I've worked on and it's pretty obvious she twists and makes untrue statements despite I have answered all her questions. She accused me of COI and working for RealTimeLogic and has an open discussion for that too. I explained in detail that I don't work for Realtime, not a paid writer, and why I chose the topics, how they were inter-related and after that even started Draft for approval topic Lua Server Pages that has nothing to do with the other articles "other than that techology is used by realtimelogic products along with other companies listed". Would you kindly look at both the COI and the SharkSSL page and the other pages she had deleted Barracuda Application Server and Barracuda Web Server. I spend more time arguing with her and trying to respond to everything that I don't even have time to work on any article. Also, look at my talk page she was even taunting there that I should admit something that isn't true. For Barracuda my answers were not fast enough, as I don't do Wikipedia full time and they went for speedy deletion. I'm happy to work and fix anything, as I'm not experienced and only started doing this for almost 5 months and probably made mistakes, but this person offers nothing but negativity. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sorisen (talkcontribs) 11:43, 23 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, what I did was cut out the promotion you'd placed on Wikipedia. I was not convinced that the article was appropriate at all but did not pursue deletion. Now that someone has, I have no issue with the current nomination, and you're not being harassed. I too have concerns about a conflict of interest, given all the image uploads and promotional content in the original article. You're not helping by being so combative at AfD , and I support the deletion proposal. Acroterion (talk) 12:53, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I think you are a fair guy and I respect your opinion. Can you help me save the original draft to an area that I can work on it? I need to read more on all of the rules and I know now there is a place that the article can be submitted for scrutiny for others to review before it goes live, such as I did for Draft Lua Server Pages. Regarding the images... I thought they would improve the content with visual reference, but I have no problem leaving them out completely. Sorisen (talk) 21:35, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sorisen, the problem with your page is not the content: if it was only the content it will not go to AfD. The problem is that the company is not notable at this time. If the subject of the article is not notable, there is nothing that can be done. It is very clear that it doesn't belong to Wikipedia. It is possible that in a few years it may become notable and you may wish to try again at that time, but at this point it is clearly not. Also, it is very clear now that you have a COI. COI is not a problem in itself: we just encourage editors to be transparent about it. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 06:44, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Beaucatcher Tunnel, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Interstate 240. BeeSafe app review[edit]

Hello, I would like to ask which part of the BeeSafe safety app page did not meet the criteria and what was considered as advertising, other websites have their info on the Wikipedia. Thank you for response. Regards, matobeno1 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matobeno1 (talkcontribs) 15:17, 7 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

All of it. You appear to be trying to promote the app. Wikipedia requires that people, products, websites and other subjects provide evidence of significant coverage by major independent media to establish notability, and that articles be free of promotional content. The material in the article read as a marketing release rather than an encyclopedia article. Acroterion (talk) 15:20, 7 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Jordan Wold[edit]

Hi,

I'm curious as to why you removed the page a fan made for me, Jordan Wold, as I have founded a notable podcasting network, host multiple shows, and work as a comedian. I tweeted photographs of the article as it was written here. The sources were cited properly, and I'm curious as to what makes you say I'm not notable enough to have a Wiki page?

Best, Jordan — Preceding unsigned comment added by JordanWold (talkcontribs) 17:32, 7 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There was no credible assertion of notability as written: see the general notability guidelines and the notability guidelines for biographies for more. If it can be shown that you've received substantial coverage in multiple independent major media outlets, an article could be sustained. In essence, if the world at large thinks a subject is notable, then Wikipedia will think it's notable. You'll need coverage by recognized academic or journalism outlets. A quick search doesn't show me much outside of social media, blogs and user-generated content, none of which can substantiate notability. Do you know of anything else? 9/11 truth movement - undo change[edit]

Hi, What does "Rv lede to summary of sourced material" mean? Regards, Petra — Preceding unsigned comment added by Petra Liverani (talkcontribs) 06:38, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The lead paragraph of an article summarizes the sourced content of the rest of the article. You changed it so that it no longer represented the sources, which state that adherents of 9/11 Truth organizations are broadly considered conspiracy theorists in mainstream publications. Please see WP:LEDE and WP:FRINGE for more. Acroterion (talk) 06:40, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

"Conspiracy theorist" is a pejorative term that I would think is best not used in an encyclopedic article. I don't believe I changed meaning, I simply used a non-controversial term. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Petra Liverani (talkcontribs) 07:41, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia describes fringe theories and fringe theorists what they are called in mainstream journalism and scholarship. Watering such descriptions down to fit a personal point of view is discouraged, and since Truthers posit a vast ongoing conspiracy, they are the archetypal conspiracy theorists. You are presently edit-warring over this and over links to every 9/11 conspiracy group, please stop. Acroterion (talk) 11:22, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

In cases like these it's simplest for admins to do the cleanup - the interface allows us to combine the move back to the original title and the deletion of the redirect. But yes, it's Jefferson Starship, not Jefferson Khan Starship. Acroterion (talk) 01:27, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

deleted page[edit]

Hi Acroterion

you recently deleted a page called beBee. I am not sure why. I was writing it and I am only a user on their platform so I have no idea why you tagged it as promotion. I wrote what i found about them after a heavy research. This is my first entry on wiki, so if something was not correct, you could have just warned or changed. All what I have said there was properly backed up by the articles published about them. this is pretty discouraging that I add something genuinely and you just delete it.

The company has over over 11 million users and you tag it as not proper back up sources. Your feedback is more than welcome! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.132.12.114 (talk) 09:17, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Several versions of this topic have been deleted by four different administrators as advertising. The version I deleted was BeBee, Inc., the other was BeBee. Each version appears to have been written to promote rather than to describe. Draft:BeBee has been declined for lack of notability. If it has reached the notability threshold it might be developed from there. Please use your account to do so if it is possible. 10:37, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

Marked for deletion before event posted - lost almost all text I wrote.[edit]

Hi Acroterion,

I am devasteded, as my whole article has disappeared. Not sure if it happened between my initial post and my edit, but I spent a long time writing about a new trend and genre inside the sound system world, for which I am organizing a festival (global first), and I wanted people to be able to read about it and the background for it. however now all is lost but the first 5 lines. I have not posted to Wikipedia before, so possible I have not done it right. Is there anyway you can retrieve from cashe, what I wrote before it got marked to be deleted.

Thank you very much.

Thanks, I've said pretty much all I plan to say and will be out of touch in airports and project sites for a while. By disagreeing with you I'm not claiming you're acting maliciously or in bad faith, but I think you're overthinking the whole knowability business, and it's getting you into BLP territory through omission. Taking a subject's statements about their own beliefs at face value is standard procedure unless there is strong reason to doubt: what would you do about any subject if you cast away their words and deeds in favor of speculation by others, much of which in this particular case has been malicous? Deletion[edit]

I am curious as to how this page qualifies as an attack page. Perhaps it should be taken down from the German page then too... Pelirojopajaro (talk) 05:54, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A wholly unsourced biography that says someone was responsible for "targeted killing operations?" You don't see the problem? Acroterion (talk) 11:25, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see how that makes it an attack page. The German page has 33 references. Any other reasons? Pelirojopajaro (talk) 06:53, 4 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Then you'd better read WP:BLP carefully - unsourced or poorly sourced controversial or defamatory claims about living individuals are required to be removed immediately and without further discussion. The German page has no bearing on the English Wikipedia and vice versa. Acroterion (talk) 12:45, 4 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Malcolm Scates[edit]

Hi I created the page for Malcolm Scates, who is my brother-in-law, married to my sister Susan Cookson. Malcolm is very unwell at the moment, and I created the page as an attempt to raise his spirits. I've known him for more than 20 years, and we have always teased each other, and he's well used to my ribbing him about his acting.

It was my intention to ask other family and friends to add to the page over the next few days.

Robert Cookson — Preceding unsigned comment added by RJCookson1958 (talkcontribs) 12:29, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry to hear he's ailing: he and your family have my best wishes. Probably the best way to proceed would be if I moved the content to a sandbox in your userspace where it can be expanded and moved to article space once it's ready. Please remember that Wikipedia is looking for a biography that neutrally describes his career and why he's notable, supported by sourcing. A list of memorable lines or catchphrases is less likely to fit with the encyclopedia. You can find the deleted content at User:RJCookson1958/sandbox. Thank you[edit]

... for this, the last four paragraphs of which are the clearest explanation I have ever seen on this topic, anywhere. It's so good it should be on a policy page, or at the very least a FAQ on the topic on Wikipedia. (If I had more time I'd make a "weak but not quite molten" barnstar.) Antandrus (talk) 21:10, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. It's a topic I've addressed in various ways over the past ten years, and I suppose that was a distillation of it all. Acroterion (talk) 02:50, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Given the tiresome "jet fuel can't melt steel beams" meme, there probably ought to be a link to a short discussion of the actual material properties of steel in an FAQ, not that it will change anything. Steel becomes liquid at about 1500C, jet fuel burns at about 1000C, that much is correct (*all temperatures based on my recollection and a quick search, which I don't think are too far off*). But steel starts losing strength around 300C and it gets dramatically worse above 500C, in a structure under unusual expansion-induced stress. Generally heating above 500C is assumed to cause structural damage, and liquid fuels burn cooler than the solid contents they've ignited, which go to more like 1100-1200C. There's a reason why blacksmiths use forges to work steel - they're not melting it when they're working it. Acroterion (talk) 03:23, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Two requests[edit]

Could you please move Continental Express Flight 2286 to Trans-Colorado Airlines Flight 2286. See the Continental talk page. One editor moved it from Trans to Continental and after I reverted it back, they changed it again. The same editor is the only one at the talk page who supports Continental for the name. Four editors- Myself, MilborneOne, Petebutt, and MattChat think the reverse. Second- Can you warn User Shelbystripes not to ping me again. I consider her constant pinging harrasment, and have told her so (somewhere around 5 to 6 times) on her talk page and at the CE Flight 2268 talk page....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 23:29, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WilliamJE, it would have been nice to tag me since you are discussing me here. Also, as you already know, I just submitted that page to WikiProject Aviation for feedback and consensus building. Going around that by asking an uninvolved admin to make a move seems ... wrong. Shelbystripes (talk) 23:35, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to also note that the move was originally proposed by another editor, and at least one other editor agreed with me (although WilliamJE has since been badgering them on their own talk page to reverse themselves)... Shelbystripes (talk) 23:38, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Just further proof of their harassment. They ping me again after being asked once more not to. Pinging isn't required. ::And I'm badgering someone. That is aviolation of WP:NPA. Statements like that demand proof and Shelby supplies none What is the saying about give someone enough rope and they will hang themselves....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 23:41, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
WilliamJE, can you pick one administrator to discuss this with? I'm tired of chasing you down to defend myself. Also, you shouldn't be invoking WP:NPA after telling me "learn to read" and attacking my "reading comprehension" repeatedly on Talk:Continental Express Flight 2286... Shelbystripes (talk) 23:50, 9 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose since I'm here anyway, I kindly request that you remind WilliamJE not to tell me to "learn to read" or otherwise insult me in Talk conversations. Sorry that you're being dragged into this. Shelbystripes (talk) 00:08, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

<outdent>Would everybody please disengage from this topic on the talkpage for a day or two? No pinging, no accusations? There doesn't seem to me to be any hurry. Second, can someone point to how the title (whichever one it is) fits with WP:AVINAME? Is it ambiguous? It looks to me like it's not applied consistently, so the obvious thing to do would be to form at least a local consensus for the aviation project for small airlines flying under larger brands, or failing that, an RfC. Some article weirdness[edit]

There was an editor, Billy Hathorn , who was a prolific creator of Louisiana related articles. I interacted with him a few times before Billy Hathorn was indefinitely blocked for copyright violations.

A year ago or less, I came across a article about a person that had been created by Billy Hathorn. In it was a second biography of another person. I removed the second biography. Sorry but I don't remember what article it was.

Today I encountered the same thing with an article W. Scott Wilkinson also created by Billy Hathorn. At the bottom of his page was another article on a family member. The family member never held political office, so I don't know if they meet notability requirements. I didn't create an article on this person, but did remove[6] that portion from the Wilkinson article.

Question- Do you think that was the right thing to do and should I do it again in the future?...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 13:55, 12 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That's really strange. BH added it in this edit [7]. Susybelle seems to fall a bit short of notability, I assume Billy was trying to bring her bio along for a ride. I think you did the right thing, I can't really make a good case for either inclusion in the original article or for moving Susybelle to her own article. I read it with an eye to gender imbalance, but can't quite get to notability. Acroterion (talk) 01:54, 13 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I found another article - Nahim Abraham, where BH put in[8] a second article. Something tells me there are more around. I also have found a questionable reference in a BH created article now up at AFD. A search of a newspaper archive finds nothing on the date he has given. If the article survives AFD, I will probably come back to you for a 2nd opinion. Thanks for replying....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 22:33, 13 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Something tells me there are dozens of these. It's an interesting way to write articles, picking a couple of generations to profile, but it's not the way we do things. The "This article also contains the biography of Nahim Abraham's son, Tom Abraham." is a unique - not disambiguation - more of an ambiguation. There are certainly articles on notable families, but those tend to be Rothschilds or Roosevelts, not locally-prominent movers and shakers. Acroterion (talk) 02:43, 14 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Why'd you delete my company's article?[edit]

My company had an article explaining what we do and the games we've made and you took it down! It fit the criteria for a good article, so why'd you take it down? There was no reason to! --JayRulesWikipedia (talk) 14:09, 18 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I also didn't appreciate you taking down the article for the game I made. People need to know about it. And they can't if you take it down. I don't want to be rude, but both of the articles were fine. They fit the criteria for a good article. Read it before deleting it. Admins are not supposed to take something down just because. They're supposed to make legitimate complaints and help people. Not delete their work without giving them a chance to fix it. >:/ --JayRulesWikipedia (talk) 14:18, 18 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a place for you to advertise your products. Perhaps you should read WP:COI? You must plainly declare your affiliation with your organization and abide by best COI practices, which means no advertising or promotion of companies with which you are associated. Admins delete advertising and articles about non-notable companies on a routine basis. Acroterion (talk) 14:21, 18 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
You know, you don't have to be a dick about it. And I don't care if you're an admin or a high class user or whatever the frick you are, don't be a dick. There, I said it. >:/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by JayRulesWikipedia (talkcontribs) 15:48, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Jay enough!!! NO more WP:PA. As for who was what, you were rather rude to assume that you could come here and use Wikipedia to advertise your crap and get away with it. (talk page stalker) CrashUnderride 16:57, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I can't care less if you like it or not. Don't abuse the encyclopedia to advertise. Acroterion (talk) 03:00, 11 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
How was I abusing the encyclopedia? I was just making an article for my studio. And no, I didn't not advertise, I just made an article about it. If you undo your change and take a look at the article I made, you'll see there's nothing wrong with it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by JayRulesWikipedia (talkcontribs) 14:44, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

Thanks for the revdel on incest. Would you mind doing the two edits saying the same thing from IP users that I reverted? Was going to ask after the vandal had been blocked. agtx 02:35, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Done, and hardblocked the IP for good measure. Thanks for the follow-uo. Acroterion (talk) 02:38, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The zeitgeist sock[edit]

I would take this to SPI but I don't know the master's account. It appears the long-running zeitgeist talk page sock slipped up and used his or her IP [9]. This seems to be a static IP since the same IP made another zeitgeist edit to a different article talk page 10 days earlier [10], and then immediately self reverted. Within one minute of hta tself refert a new account User:Jondondonhehe was created (same time stamp as the self revert) and continued with the zeitgeist edits to the same talk page. Meters (talk) 05:59, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've hard-blocked the IP for a month (meaning logged-in users can't use that IP). Telstra IPs are usually highly dynamic, but this one may be more stable than most: the IP lookup reports it as static. We'll see if it makes a difference. If it does, or if the edits resume after the block expires I'll extend the block. Acroterion (talk) 11:44, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Those edits are a nightly ritual, so it's worth a try. Meters (talk) 19:42, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Range block[edit]

Thanks for your block of 2600:1010:b028:8acd:2cd0:5540:aa1d:b694; I've blocked the 2600:1010:b028:8acd::/64 range for a week. It's all the same individual having so much fun. Bishonen | talk 08:49, 19 September 2016 (UTC).[reply]

I thought so, but I was getting sleepy and it's not a good idea for me to do range blocks while fatigued. While /64 blocks on IPv6 ranges are easy, I don't parse hexadecimal terribly well. Thanks! Acroterion (talk) 11:40, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

World Tomorrow and block evasion[edit]

On 12 May you reverted an edit to and protected World Tomorrow, citing block evasion among other things.

Lately a new account (FastNLoud (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)) and an IP (50.123.128.179 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)) having been editing that article, The World Tomorrow, and The World Tomorrow (radio and television). The pattern of behaviour is very familiar. The IP has held himself out as the "copyright holders".

I feel like this is a road Wikipedia has been down before. Do you remember who the account was that was blocked back in May? If it is still blocked, then the new account and the IP can likely be dealt with for block evasion. If there's not an active block, then this may need looked at by either COIN or ANI.

Any suggestions on how to proceed? —C.Fred (talk) 19:42, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, no suggestions necessary. FastNLoud took steps that made clear what my next action should be, plus I think i found who the originally blocked account was. —C.Fred (talk) 20:35, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, this has been going on for years. Someone's trying to use Wikipedia as a proxy for their real-world dispute and editors like Barek have had to take the crap. It flares up every few months. Acroterion (talk) 22:25, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Page creation/deletion[edit]

The page Capital Land Property Group was deleted by yourself by the looks of it; please can you explain why it has been deleted and what can be done so that it complies with Wikipedia guidelines? as it is no different from other companies in its categories. If the page needs to be created in draft format first then please can you help with this and advice how to go about this? thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yoda21883 (talkcontribs) 12:56, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article gave no indication of notability according to the guidelines for corporations: see WP:CORP. You should provide significant coverage in major independent publications. Please also read WP:COI as you may have a conflict of interest in this matter and must identify it clearly and abide by the best practices for such contributors. Acroterion (talk) 16:47, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Acroterin, thank you coming back to me on this. I can not write the content for this page as I am part of the family who founded it although I do nothing within the company itself. The person who suggested we should be on wikipedia has no connection to the company; would they be able to create the company page based on relevant notability? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yoda21883 (talkcontribs) 18:11, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sandbox revdel requested[edit]

Can you revdel edits (and edit summary of last edit as it links to the file) made to Wikipedia:Sandbox by Special:Contributions/2601:1C2:4F02:F076:906C:A1AC:AC11:47D4? They added grossly inappropriate images. —MRD2014 (talk) (contribs) 02:27, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protection[edit]

Hello, Acroterion. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:47, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

You beat me to it. Thanks! Been blocking them for about an hour now ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:26, 24 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I thought it might be a bot at first, but I think it's a boiler room spamming operation with a few people with scripts and a bunch of IPs. I haven't checked to see if a checkuser has looking into it, it might be a blockable range. Acroterion (talk) 13:22, 24 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion[edit]

I'm not sure how you expect to delete my page Waterbrook Insurance but you leave pages like Microsoft. Waterbrook Insurance is a legal corporate entity just like Microsoft and it was not created for advertising reasons. The wiki page's sole purpose was to reveal the history of the company and keep it's history alive. I thought that's what wikipedia was all about. I will continue to add to the page to make it's history more robust, but you will not have a right to delete it as long as I am using it just like I was (in cooperation with Wikipedia's guidelines.)

Please restore the page and message me on my talk page.

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brandonjjons57 (talkcontribs) 03:33, 24 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Brandonjjons57:, please read WP:SOURCE and WP:COI.--Mr Fink (talk) 03:39, 24 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure how you think you can credibly compare a small insurance brokerage to Microsoft: Microsoft is notable according to Wikipedia guidelines, having been the subject of thousands of lengthy essays, analysis, profiles, criticisms and reports, let alone entire books. These are the basis by which Wikipedia determines notability. Local businesses are not usually notable under Wikipedia guidelines (see WP:CORP) unless something really bad has happened that has brought substantial press coverage. In any event, you are required to abide by WP:COI by Wikipedia policy, and you may not use Wikipedia to promote any business. You most certainly may not write about yourself. I tried to report them for vandalism and being a sock of User:Leecobrown but the Twinkle form screwed up on me. (talk page stalker) CrashUnderride 03:59, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This is the response I've gotten from the form, twice: "Retrieving discussion page: Failed to save edit: TitleBlacklist prevents this title from being created". (talk page stalker) CrashUnderride 04:09, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Blocked for clear-cut evasion. No idea what the deal is with the blacklist. Acroterion (talk) 04:22, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your assistance. I've never had that happen in all the years I've been here. lol. (talk page stalker) CrashUnderride 04:24, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I just had a user who commented on my talkpage (and was autosigned) show up as unregistered for a moment. I think the database is a little flakey tonight. Acroterion (talk) 04:25, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
So let's just blame it on the database!!! lmao :D (talk page stalker) CrashUnderride 04:36, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Can you deep six this article. Here is a long explanation.

  • The Miss Intercontinental article, Sri Lanka's mother article, has been deleted[11] as not notable.
  • If you check the above link, you'll see that a bunch of related articles have been deleted.
  • I speedy nominated Miss Intercontinental Sri Lanka but another editor removed the tag then sent it to AFD[12]. Two editors, one of whom is me, say speedy delete. Noone but the article creator is supporting the article.
  • The article creator has a COI. He or she is the official pageant photographer as seen here[13] So this editor is here to promote the pageant and maybe their work.
  • One last thing, the article creator has twice taken down the AFD tage- here[14] and here[15]. They have been warned about it on their talk page.

I would do a massive SALTING of Miss Intercontinental related articles. Delete pageant articles have a long history of being recreated....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 19:24, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It' a little hard to argue that a pageant organized by the Rotary Club of Columbo West is any more significant that, say, the Southwest Iowa Soybean Queen, so deleted and salted. Don't know what else might lurk out there. We've had a long history of disruptive pageant enthusiasts from the Philippines and Singapore. Acroterion (talk) 20:08, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The article has been recreated Miss intercontinetal sri lanka with a change of spelling. Can you deep six it again and maybe SALT it too?...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 13:07, 15 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Deleted and salted, COI notice applied. Still the South Asian equivalent of Fresno West Rotary Queen. Acroterion (talk) 13:55, 15 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I moved only my own comments to the proper section of the BLM talk page[edit]

I am moving them again. Try paying attention next time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.224.251.239 (talk) 22:57, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No, you scrambled other peoples' comments. In any case, Wikipedia isn't a forum for your views on politics and race. Please stop abusing the talkpage. If you insert your comments into other peoples' comments again you will be blocked. Acroterion (talk) 22:59, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No I did not. I merely moved my own comments. Where were you when the section was deleted in the first place? Do not agree. In the future try paying attention. Wikipedia was created to NPOV encyclopedic content, not to be a safe space for the acroterions of the world. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.224.251.239 (talk) 23:05, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WP:MFD question[edit]

There is an editor with draft articles take for instance this that wouldn't pass golf notability guidelines. Can it be nominated for deletion while still a drift?...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 14:52, 27 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

For draft space there would be less of a hurry than for article space. Per WP:DRAFTS they can be MfD'd, but not on a primary count of notability. G13 would eventually apply if it sits there for 6 months, or if it turns into a webhosting farm. Acroterion (talk) 00:36, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. A article was created tonight. So I sent it to AFD....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 01:32, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WP:AN vandalism revert[edit]

Hello!

Thanks so much for sorting the vandalism of WP:AN just now (unfortunately was someone under my care at the time - this is what happens when I leave the page open in another tab whilst doing a demonstration of IT facilities during our college's induction!). Notice we've been softblocked - but you might decide a school block & associated template is more appropriate if the issue recurs. Many thanks again!
