Katrina Death Toll

[edit]

Could you let me know why you changed the death toll number from Katrina? Thanks. --Lionheart Omega 23:07, 5 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I updated this information based on the latest figures from http://www.dhh.louisiana.gov/offices/page.asp?ID=192&Detail=5248 AdamWeeden 03:22, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Please revert back to >=1836 as per TCR update by NHC (http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/pdf/TCR-AL122005_Katrina.pdf). The great kawa 23:32, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That information looks outdated:

The total number of fatalities known, as of this writing, to be either directly or indirectly related to Katrina is 1833, based on reports to date from state and local officials in five states: 1577 fatalities in Louisiana, 238 in Mississippi, 14 in Florida, 2 in Georgia, and 2 in Alabama.

Whereas the link to the Department of Health of Louisiana (who probably know better than the hurricane center) lists the current toll at 1,464. Combining this with the other totals listed gives us 1,720. AdamWeeden 03:06, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The LHD was last updated 2August, while the NHC was last updated 10 August, also it makes more sense to use a total which counts every fatality and not just the ones from LA. The "Fatalities By Locality" may be more accurate, but the NHC value is what we have been using for quite some time (when this was a featured article). Email the NHC and LHD if you would like to know which values are more accurate. Hopefully that would get the matter resolved. How about we take a vote in the article on it and settle it that way if you must insist it be reverted to 1723? The great kawa 18:52, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
