Video preview for "Don't stop the music" by Rihanna

Hi, I'm working at wikipedia.ro and I really need a software to covert avi, mpg, mp4 files in ogg video files for wikipedia. How you do it, at rihanna music video !? Thanks so much ! Tony2131 (talk) 20:43, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
| Hi. I use mplayer/mencoder usually along with ffmpeg2theora. Firstly I convert the source from whatever format it's in to an avi with RAW video and maybe pcm or copied audio. (this is needed because sometimes ffmpeg2theora doesn't like the normal source format). Then I go to ffmpeg2theora and convert it with pretty much the default settings, and upload the result to Wikipedia. Usually I have found that it is easier to create the excerpt with mencoder because it's more accurate and your then not wasting space storing RAW video of bits you dont need. These are all command line applications, and they are available for pretty much every system.

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. Hi Adammw, I got to the above page when looking at new uploads. Past consensus has been that the non-free content policy does not allow illustration of such list-of articles and it is likely that they will be removed or deleted. Is this a blanket rule on the use of images in lists? Most of the images have not been uploaded and are primarily used in their main articles, their non-free fair use status should be unaffected. Adammw (talk) 09:33, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Yes and no. There are few blanket rules here but many firmly enforced guidlines. The image you recently uploaded that is only used in the list-of article would likely not survive a files-for-deletion discussion. For the others you need a detailed rationale that shows how having the image in each and every place it is used significantly increases reader's understanding of the topic. Though the image may be ok here for one use (say illustrating the Homer Simpson article with an image of the character) it may not be ok in other places. In general items (or characters) in lists are not individually illustrated with non-free images as consensus has formed that this use does not pass the significance test (non-free content criteria #8) - Peripitus (Talk) 09:47, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Discussion on linking to streamed copies of albums

Wikipedia policy allows us to link to legal streamed copies of albums. It would be useful to draw up a guideline on how and when to link to such albums; however, there is concern that it may not be appropriate as the music would not be available in all parts of the world. Is the benefit of having access to the music for most users outweighed by the fact that some users will follow a link to find the music is not playable in their region?
