Due to some misconceptions appearing in Austalian newspapers suggesting that the WTR is the worlds second-busiest rocket launch facility (which it once was, bu is most certainly not the case today), and following some recent publicised comments about support base's future in local newspapers, I have tried to correct the record in regard to the status of the Woomera 'village' through some editing of the overview paragraphs.Aerolor (talk) 00:52, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Woomera article[edit]

  • Aerolor, thank you for the background discussion regarding 'town' or 'village', I would recommend that the main article be altered to read something like "Woomera is a Defence base open to the public" as you have noted. I am busy working on another project ay present, but as you seem to have a copy of 'Fire Across the Desert' would you kindly check the name of the Group Captain credited with naming 'Woomera'. A book by Len Beadell, "Blast the Bush" names him as George Pither on page 31.

Summerdrought (talk) 04:13, 9 March 2013 (UTC) Aerolor (talk) 04:23, 9 March 2013 (UTC) Yep, that is the correct name - he was a Group Captain in the RAAF. Full name 'Alfred George Pither' - he preferred to use 'George' as his call-name over Alfred.[reply]

OK thanks a lot. I suggest his full name be included in the article to make it clear to future readers. Summerdrought (talk) 04:28, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Aerolor, regarding the main article Woomera, South Australia, the Establishment section was tagged by me in 2011. I note from your post of 9th March on the Talk page that you agree in principle with the reasons for the tag. As I don't have a handy reference to re-write the section, I would be amenable to removing the tag if you were able to edit some of the opinions out of the section, while keeping it as factual as possible. regards, Summerdrought (talk) 11:24, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of 5RRR[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on 5RRR requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
