Welcome to Wikipedia from Ckatz

[edit]

Hi, Agesaces. I welcome you to Wikipedia! Thank you for all of your edits. I hope you like editing here and being part of Wikipedia! Unfortunatley, the external link you added has been removed as it does not meet the requirements of our external links guideline. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or put {{helpme}} (and what you need help with) on your talk page and someone will show up very soon to answer your questions. Again, welcome! Ckatzchatspy 02:29, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agesaces, again, please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Winnipeg. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. Thank you. Agesaces, thank you for your note - and please, no apologies are necessary. One of the most common mistakes new contributors make is to add a link to a blog, local forum, or some other such site, as they are usually unaware of the difference between Wikipedia and other sites. Basically, Wikipedia is not a directory service, and as such generally avoids posting links to other sites unless there is a direct benefit to the article. This should not in any way be taken as a slight against your site; it is merely a reflection of the fact that this is an encyclopedia article, not a directory service. Links are generally limited to official sites, a guideline that applies to articles on the largest of cities and the smallest of towns.
Please, however, do not let this discourage you from contributing to the project. While the link may not fit, you may find that your position gives you knowledge of useful information that can help to inform others about the city. You are welcome (and encouraged) to contribute; I would be happy to help you if you have any questions about the verifiability and reliable sources guidelines as well. Thank you again. --Ckatzchatspy 03:12, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
