Stokes Soccerplex moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Stokes Soccerplex, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). Edit warring against AfD consensus at 2018 Northeast Conference Men's Soccer Tournament

[edit]

Hey, I noticed that you have attempted to repeatedly recreate an article at 2018 Northeast Conference Men's Soccer Tournament. An article was previously deleted at that title following this AfD discussion. In order to recreate the article, you're going to need to either provide additional sources that address the notability concerns raised in the deletion discussion. Repeatedly recreating the article without addressing these concerns is a form of edit warring, and will lead to blocks if continued. signed, Rosguill talk 21:58, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you've continued to edit war. As my only action at the article has been to restore the outcome of the AfD, I consider myself uninvolved and will block you if you continue to revert the page without going through the appropriate channels. The appropriate way to argue for this article's recreation is to collect enough sources to establish that the subject meets WP:GNG, and then file a deletion review request at WP:DRV. signed, Rosguill talk 16:22, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, thank you for your contributions. Please can you explain how the above stadium is notable? I did a search but could not find any evidence of passing WP:GNG and WP:NBUILD. Are there any secondary sources available? In other words, sources not from University of South Carolina? Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 17:07, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved it to draft for now. Please see if you can find secondary sources covering this in detail and then please feel free to submit through Articles for Creation Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 09:44, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ajax.amsterdam.fan, I've explained multiple times that you can't just reinstate an article that has been deleted at AfD without providing significantly better sourcing. Use the time that you are now blocked from editing that page directly to look for sources that can establish the subject's notability (WP:THREE is an essay with good advice about what to look for), and if you find promising sources, file a case at WP:DRV, our deletion review noticeboard. signed, Rosguill talk 16:44, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Calvin Harris (footballer) moved to draftspace as so far fails WP:NFOOTY

An article you recently created, Calvin Harris (footballer), is not suitable as written to remain published as he has not yet played a first class game (see WP:NFOOTY). When they play such a game for FC Cinncinatti and you consider the article is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. JW 1961 Talk 18:54, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Joseywales1961 That was unneccesary, as he has played professional games. There are other players who have yet to play an MLS game. Next time, find a better reason if you want to delete it.
I don't actually want to delete anything, as I said above this player has not yet played a professional first class game - Wellington Phoenix Reserves are as the name suggests, a reserve side in a lower league, Wake Forest are a college side in a lower league - see the list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Fully professional leagues for what are considered professional leagues. As this player has not yet (and may never) play a game for FC Cincinnati he does not yet meet WP:NFOOTY or otherwise WP:GNG so it would be better in draft until he actually plays (less chance of actually being tagged for deletion there) JW 1961 Talk 20:19, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Joseywales1961 Yes, the name has "reserves" in it, but they play in the top tier of soccer in New Zealand. Therefore, it is relevant and the page should not be a draft
Thanks for that clarification and apologies, in that case I was misreading Wellington as a reserve side of an NZ league team and so he does meet NFOOTY and it can go live, the second version of the article has less history and no categories so I will have an admin move that one to Draft where it can be deleted and let the original (now draft) pass as an article JW 1961 Talk 20:58, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Joseywales1961 - unfortunately, the New Zealand Football Championship is not listed at WP:FPL so Harris does not yet meet NFOOTBALL. New Zealand has had professional teams compete in the Australian A-League before, though. Similar to how some professional Welsh teams compete in the English league system. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 21:34, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Spiderone so it's still a semi-pro league. We can still keep it as a page. If it matters that much, Harris did appear for the senior team for Wellington Phoenix. (Source: https://godeacs.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster/calvin-harris/5215) --Ajax.amsterdam.fan (talk) 21:39, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ajax.amsterdam.fan, Spiderone Thanks, if the creator could add that reference to Wellington Seniors to the "Live" page It would help prove notability while the page can be tagged {{refimprove}} pending a mention of that game on a source such as soccerway or worldfootball, is that acceptable to all? JW 1961 Talk 21:57, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Joseywales1961, so should we add a box score/report for the game he appeared in?
Yes, as it was a senior appearearnce in a fully professional league, it therefore establishes notability beyond doubt, I would just tag the page with refimrove until that (or a Cincinnati game) shows on Soccerway or similar JW 1961 Talk 22:07, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I would agree with adding a report or anything similar for that game to evidence that he did actually play for the senior professional team at least once. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 22:06, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Cut and paste moves

[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Draft:Calvin Harris (footballer) a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Calvin Harris (footballer). This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Can you explain all these changes?

  • Why does the onlyinclude-endtag have to be on a separate line?
  • Why do the |attendance= parameters have to be blanked?
  • And most of all, why should the match report be from the winning team's website? A Dutch report on EN-Wiki which most likely within 1 or 2 years is no longer accessible?

--Sb008 (talk) 00:44, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Sb008: I removed the attendance number because there may be fans at the stadiums, as fans will be allowed back at stadiums starting May 16 (according to this article).

The match report should be from the winning team's website because it provides more information about the game than a box score does. -Ajax.amsterdam.fan (talk) 01:18, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How many fans were there at the stadions on 16 May? The latest official news is that there will be mo more fans at mational league matches. All the rest is speculation. And if a new descision is taken, the 0 can be changed any time. This is EN-Wiki and not NL-Wiki. So most likely the big majority of readers will not understand Dutch which effectively causes the report to be less informative. Besides, pages at soccerway stay "infinite" whereas news items at (club) sites mostly disappear within 2 years. If the link has not been archived, we end up with a dead link. --Sb008 (talk) 01:36, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Sb008: A "0" can always be added after the game is over and the attendance is official. The reports can usually be translated into English, so that isn't really a problem. We can also add two match reports, one with an actual recap and then just the box score. Or, a box score can be used after two years if the recap disappears. -Ajax.amsterdam.fan (talk) 01:41, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  1. We go by the facts. Based on the current facts there will be no fans at the matches. If the facts change, we change Wiki. We don't leave things blank because they might change. E.g. we don't leave the date blank because it might change. We don't leave the stadium blank because it might (partly) collaps as happened to AZ not that long ago and therefore the match will be played elsewhere.
  2. Everything can be translated into English. You know what, we get rid of all articles related to Dutch events and instead put a reference on the page to the corresponding article on NL-Wiki. We do the same for events from all other countries which have a Wiki for their language. Imagine all articles which no longer have to be watched for vandalism, spelling mistakes, inaccuracies etc etc. You don't ask or expect people to go translate things. Furthermore, Wiki is supposed to be neutral. Reports at the website from 1 of the involved teams are not likely to be neutral, especially if there were debatle events during the match. And last but not least, for each stage of the league there're references to Soccerway. Keeps matters consistant.

Jannick Theißen moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Jannick Theißen, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. @Spiderone:, there are multiple citations from reliable and independent sources. Please explain why you think those aren't reliable. -Ajax.amsterdam.fan (talk) 18:37, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The sources are reliable and independent but they do not have any in-depth coverage of the footballer. Routine announcements of "Theißen transfers from x to y" is not significant coverage. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 18:40, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Spiderone: It's still accurate and reliable information about a player going from one team to another, it doesn't need a full article if it's just a loan move or something like that. Having an article without in-depth coverage is better than no citation at all. -Ajax.amsterdam.fan (talk) 18:56, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve Sairusi Nalaubu

[edit]

Hello, Ajax.amsterdam.fan,

Thank you for creating Sairusi Nalaubu.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

What is needed are references from significant coverage about this player, and not their own words; in multiple secondary sources which are WP:RS; that is your guide. Lists, Team rosters, Soccerway, Instagram, Facebook, none of these are reliable sources. (There have been changes to the notability guide for sports - see WP:NSPORT ) You may also read WP:PRIMARY which details the limited permitted usage of primary sources. A more comprehensive guide is WP:SOURCES ... Providing sufficient references, ideally giving more information about this player, that meet these criteria is likely to allow this article to remain. Lack of them or an inability to find them is likely to mean that the topic is not suitable for inclusion. Kindly do the needful. Thank you.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Whiteguru}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Luca Gozzo moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Luca Gozzo, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) WP:NFOOTY is no longer a valid SNG, so GNG must be met. It needs several refs from independent, reliable, secondary sources to pass WP:GNG. It should have at least 3 of those. Please remember that routine sports coverage does not satisfy GNG, and that interviews, being primary sources, do not go to notability either. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia).
