Soundtrack cover images[edit]

Wikipedia strongly prefers keeping the use of non-free images to a minimum in articles. For film articles, a non-free image of the film poster is generally the only non-free image that should be in the article. It should not have a non-free image of the film post AND a non-free image of the soundtrack cover. Please read WP:FILMSCORE for more information. Thank you. Soundtrack images[edit]

Hi Akkash, re: this and similar edits, though you obviously mean well, please don't add non-free images to the soundtrack section in film articles. This is a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policy. Non-free images can't be used as decorations. We only have a "fair-use" claim to use a copyrighted image when using the image to identify an article subject, like using a low-resolution film poster in an infobox to identify the film Thalaivaa. However, when we add a soundtrack image, we're no longer identifying the film, we're identifying a tangential subject, and this is not allowed. (See WP:FILMSCORE and WP:NFCCP for more info.)

If the soundtrack had its own article (which is not warranted right now), then we could use a non-free image at that new article, because we'd again have a fair-use argument that we are using an image to identify the article subject, i.e. the album. (Note Saturday Night Fever has no soundtrack image, but Saturday Night Fever (soundtrack) does.) Hope that helps. Please note that this is widespread community consensus, so I have to ask you to please not add any more soundtrack images to film articles. If you would be so kind as to go through your edits and remove the ones you've added, that would be appreciated. Thank you, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:55, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
