Esquisse d'un programme

The article presented has substantial content as it states precisely what is in Esquisse d'un programme so that it is accessible not only to mathematicians. please re-consider your suggestion and provide some specific reasons if any. RSVPNu 18:40, 2 October 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bci2 (talkcontribs)

Poorly written prose, insufficient context explaining what it is, poor layout consisting of random lists in the middle of the page, original research with no reliable sources. These are the reasons. If they are addressed, I'll withdraw it. Thanks, Ale_Jrbtalk 18:44, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Oops!

Hi Ale jrb.

Thanks a lot for pointing out my mistake in welcoming new users...I'll try to do it the right way next time.

Artichoke-Boy (talk) 20:27, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

No worries! It doesn't matter very much, but it can be confusing for new users, so we try to avoid it where possible. Happy editing! :) Ale_Jrbtalk 20:29, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Adminship?

I've been watching you for quite a while, and you seem like a solid user. You've fought vandalism almost from the beginning, but you have also found time to do some writing. I would like to nominate you for adminship. Before I do, can you answer these questions, just so I'm sure. (questions shamelessly stolen from a similar post by Dweller)

  1. Have you ever been blocked?
    1. If so, when?
    2. For what?
  2. Ever had an Editor Review?
  3. An RfA?
  4. What (if any) horrible skeletons lie in your editing closet?
  5. Got much recent experience at AfD?
  6. Are there any major mainspace contribs or other edits that you are proud of but have not included in your /Contribs page?
  7. Is there anyone else who has expressed interest in nomming you?
  8. Is there anyone specific you would particularly like to nominate you? (I could ask them if they would like to co-nom)

If Q1 and Q4 are not alarming, and you have not recently had an RfA, I am prepared to nominate you as soon as it I can write up a nom statement (probably tomorrow morning or afternoon, EDT) J.delanoygabsadds 21:21, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Wow. Well, that's quite unexpected, heh. My answers to those questions would be:
  1. No.
  2. No.
  3. Nope.
  4. I nominated a super-notable school for deletion in February. Unsurprisingly, it got snowed on. I'm pretty sure I've learnt from that, though, and am unlikely to be hugely involved with AfD - at least early on - anyway. That's all I can think of.
  5. To be honest, no, not really. I've participated in about 3 recently, mostly for newpages that have been AfD-ed by others.
  6. No.
  7. Not that I can think of, no.
Cheers! Ale_Jrbtalk 21:49, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
OK, cool. I have to get some homework done tonight, but tomorrow I have three hours where I don't have to do anything at school. I'll probably write the nom then, so if you want, you can work on the "mandatory" questions. I'll create the page right after saving this, so if you get done before I do, you can put your answers on it. Have a good night! J.delanoygabsadds 22:20, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
Great, will do. I just noticed that I missed a question, even after thinking about it. For 6, I worked on the VandalProof project as lead dev for some time, between AmiDaniel stopping and the advent of huggle, so I'm quite happy about that :).I'll write my answers a little later. Cheers, Ale_Jrbtalk 06:47, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

OK, the nom is up. When you're ready, answer the questions, remove the nowiki tags at the start of the article, and transclude. Good luck! J.delanoygabsadds 20:57, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I notice from your User page that you are near London, would you care to join some of us this Sunday at Wikipedia:Meetup/London 14? ϢereSpielChequers 12:00, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey. Thanks for inviting me! I think it quite unlikely that I will attend, but it's always possible. If I'm gonna come, I'll poke my head in on the page. Cheers, Ale_Jrbtalk 16:24, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Removing notable articles

I don't understand why you remove noatble articles. I placed an article about a notable pop band - notable because they had a unique style of music.

Anyway, you may personally feel important removing people's work, but that's your opinion and i don't share that view. I think editors like you are damaging the credibility of this online encyclopedia. I've already stopped anonymously donating my personal money as I find most articles that entered are written in a way biased to western propagandist views on the subject itself and most articles never get placed if you haven't heard of them or agree to them. So what's the point, anyway I created a fan-club instead of this pop group and surprise surprise i am already getting randomn people joining it everyday on facebook. So you were obviously wrong about them being unpopular. —Preceding unsigned comment added by EddyJawed (talkcontribs) 10:51, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey. I'm sorry about your concerns. Unfortunately, Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, and requires that an article provides reasons for why the subject (in this case a band) is notable. Your article provided no assertion of notability (that means it doesn't tell us why the band is important among the hundreds of thousands of other bands in the world) - this means that it can be speedily deleted per our criteria for speedy deletion.
If the band is notable, that's great! Have a read of Wikipedia:Notability (music), as this provides advice on what is generally needed to avoid an article being deleted. If you think they meet the criteria, recreate the article, providing relevant, reliable sources, as suggested by the notability guideline. As long as you make an assertion of why the band is notable, it won't be speedily deleted (but if your sources aren't good enough, it can still be deleted, see proposed deletion and deletion debates for more info).
I hope that answers your question, and good luck with your fansite! Ale_Jrbtalk 13:10, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

You're a sysop!

Hi, Ale jrb/Archives/October 2008, Congratulations on Becoming a Sysop!

Hey there. I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except patent nonsense like "aojt9085yu8;3ou"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, block anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on articles for deletion for more than 5 days (provided there's a consensus), protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.

Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Have fun! =Nichalp «Talk»=

Deleted article

Hi. I am trying to author an article about a real artist, Milena Filipova, whose work I believe is among the most important work being done today. I have no profit motive and am trying to create a stub so that I can augment it in my spare time. I cannot seem to get it past the submission stage without having someone speedy delete it. I recognize the importance of the open-source, wiki approach to article writing and cataloging, but I am new to the community. If everything I write is quickly deleted on the word of other users (who do not seem to take the time to investigate before they make their hasty declarations), I will simply recognize that my attempts at making Wikipedia better and more complete are completely unappreciated. I'm certain that this is not your desired outcome, nor is it desired by the administration as a whole.

I have submitted two versions of this article and both were unceremoniously deleted. Please tell me specifically what there was about the stub that you read that made it unsuitable for inclusion on Wikipedia. Thank you,

Steven E. Savage ssavage2007@verizon.net —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ssavage2004 (talkcontribs) 21:39, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey there. Your article was deleted because it meets the Wikipedia criteria for speedy deletion because it does not make any assertion of notability (that means it doesn't tell us why that person should have an article on Wikipedia while over 6 and a half billion people don't). If you want to avoid your article being deleted, you should show that the subject of your article is notable according to our guidelines, and reference this with reliable sources. In this way, you can avoid your article being deleted.
If you have any more questions, let me know. Cheers, Ale_Jrbtalk 22:33, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

I entered the IndigoVision article that you deleted based on a similar company Milestone Systems that has a Wikipedia entry. Why has this been deleted when Milestone Systems appears to be valid?

Random Question

Hey there. I just wanted to ask you, do you by any chance have an active account on the Zybez RuneScape Community forum? I myself have an account there, and I seem to remember another user with the same, if not a similar, username as your Wikipedian one. I know this is trivial, but it is bugging me. Cheers, Blooded Edge (TCA) 20:59, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Greetings. That is indeed me, but is not (and has not been) active for some time. Cheers, Ale_Jrbtalk 21:47, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Glassjaw

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to make constructive contributions to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Glassjaw, did not appear to be constructive. You obviously didn't look at the edits i made -- or if you did, you're a moron -- specifically, grammatical errors, references, important information, and so on -- and seem only to have noticed the small reduction in bytes and reacted to this as a bad edit. In reinstating the previous edit (which added ridiculous and wrong information that the band is 'rap metal'), you deleted other information that i have added, including a section on the band's influences and thus sound to attempt to quell the quibbling in the discussion page. Also, your patronisation that i'm new to Wikipedia isn't needed, as i've been editing here for years (you could look at the extensive edits i've been doing to the Glassjaw page over the weekend; and in future it would be advisable before second-guessing). The information you re-added -- which, again, in turn removed actual important edits -- is of little interest to anyone and not necessary to the article, and barely to the band; i wonder if you read it. If you know anything about the band at all, you're welcome to edit in constructive and relevant information. Kevin Doran (talk) 20:01, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey there. Thanks for your comment - I revert quite a lot of vandalism, and when going at speed, occasionally make mistakes. I presume that the edit in question mas a misclick on the revert button, and sincerely apologise. I have restored your edit - thanks for helping to improve Wikipedia! If you haven't already, feel free to remove the warning from your page. Ale_Jrbtalk 20:05, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

Threats in Newfoundland

The police have identified a suspect. The University have asked me if the entries can be removed from the record to protect the identities of those threatened, and I have requested oversight, both for today's and the earlier ones on 1 Oct. Can we also somehow blank the ANI thread which mentions one of the names?

Regards, JohnCD (talk) 19:04, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

In the interest of protecting them, I'm sure the edit can be oversighted as well, though it may need to be removed first. Feel free to do so. Ale_Jrbtalk 19:07, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
I have edited out the thread, but for completeness I'll ask for oversight of that as well. JohnCD (talk) 19:51, 27 October 2008 (UTC)
