Sources and error

[edit]

Hi Alex981202! I see your point re: Roman metallurgy, but pointing out errors on our own initiative isn't allowed, per WP:synth and WP:OR; thus, we can't preface cited information with editorial provisos such as "however" blah blah. What we can do is outline the basis of calculation used by those sources, and let the reader decide; or (ideally) offer a cited critique of those figures. We cannot draw inferences, or invite the reader to do so. Haploidavey (talk) 12:00, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the pitfalls of estimation and statistics, it might be well worth your while to read through the talk-page archives - not the current page but the previous, where such matters have been discussed in detail. In particular, note Peterkingiron's [1]comments. Haploidavey (talk) 12:45, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the revert, Alex, and thanks for the message. Haploidavey (talk) 22:31, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Plesase note in particular the link to citing sources and adding references; one of the sources you added gives no author or publisher - "Iron production in Roman Britain" can't therefore be verified. Cheers

Hello again

Hi Alex; describing a section as "stupid" (re your edit summary at Roman metallurgy) doesn't explain or justify its removal. We've had some useful and (I hope) productive exchanges in the past. Perhaps you could explain why you removed the section, rather than offering alternative sources and content? Haploidavey (talk) 21:49, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
