Alex: I noticed your note on Ryan's talk page. When I went to investigate, I realized that you had posted your information in the articlespace, rather than in the userspace, and redirected your userpage to the article. Is there a reason you listed your information in the articlespace rather than the userspace? We do not usually allow anything but encyclopedia articles in the articlespace; did you intend to create an encyclopedia article about yourself?

As for the copyvio, as long as you are willing to release the information you placed in the article under the GFDL, it can certainly stay on your userpage. If you have any questions about any of this, let me know. -- Essjay · Talk 10:29, August 8, 2005 (UTC)

Hang on and I'll do it for you; as an admin, I can actually delete the article, rather than just blanking it. -- Essjay · Talk 10:34, August 8, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks ... my mistake has actually been a massive learning experience ;)

The problem is, I created a username ages ago under a name I wanted to change: Adecarvalho. So I created a new user at Alex de carvalho. Then I realized I capitalized wrong, but could no longer create a user at Alex de Carvalho. So I redirected from Alex de carvalho (and from Adecarvalho) to Alex de Carvalho. But I guess when I did so I created an article page rather than a user page.

This means user Adecarvalho should not exist since I am Alex de carvalho now ... and I would rather be Alex de Carvalho but maybe for search issues it's better to leave as is?

I apologize for all this administrivia and will pay it forwards when I can.

It's no problem, that's what they keep us around for; I got the chance to use some of my shiny buttons! I've removed the copyvio notice, moved Alex de Carvalho to User:Alex de carvalho, as well as redirected User:Adecarvalho to User:Alex de carvalho. We never delete any accounts (it's a GFDL matter), so anyone who sees User:Adecarvalho will automatically be brougt to User:Alex de carvalho. I'll also redirect User:Alex de Carvalho here. I would keep it all with your actual username (Alex de carvalho) because a lot of features are based on that. However, you can edit your preferences (see the link "preferences" at the top of the page) to change your signature to use the uppercase C. If you need any other help, let me know!

Oh, and I forgot to say:

Welcome! (We can't say that loud/big enough!)

You can sign your name on talk pages and votes by typing ~~~~; our software automatically converts it to your username and the date.

If you have any questions or problems, no matter what they are, leave me a message on my talk page.

We're so glad you're here! -- Essjay · Talk 10:51, August 8, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks Essjay, you've been most helpful. I run my own public wiki on socialtext and have long used Wikipedia (and met Jimbo in Copenhagen this year :) I wanted to become a more active contributor and so took the steps today (and learned alot from it). tapio 11:01, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
