Welcome!

Hello, Alexander.Hainy, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!

As for your user page, you don't really need anything at all. Or you can add notes on what subjects you may be interested in working on here. Generally it's more worthwhile to describe your Wikipedia interests than what you may do elsehwere. Again, welcome. Fan-1967 20:22, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You deserve this:

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
For contributing immensely to the article Al-Kindi.

A'ufwan (you are welcome), but you deserved it! Jidan 19:55, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I skimmed through it and found it very good. When it comes to Philosophy, I am clueless. I wanted some time ago to add his scientific accomplishments, which are very intersting, but simply didn't find the time. Did you know for example that al-kindi is the father of cryptanalysis? [1] Jidan 20:54, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunatly, all I have is google. One very good website is this http://www.muslimphilosophy.com/kindi/index.html. Jidan 12:34, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Ibn al-Nadim quotation[edit]

Hi Alexander, no problem. BTW, I am planing on adding more on his science accomplishments this evening, can you delay the submitting of the article for a peer review at least till tomorrow? Thanks. Jidan 11:56, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Al-Kindi and..[edit]

Hi Alexander. Good effort in that article. Please see the article's talk page for a small issue. By the way, the barnstar above is the E=MC2 barnstar, not the Tireless Contributor Barnstar, so you might wanna change that. Cheers. :-) ← ANAS Talk? 12:47, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't mention it. I am done. Please see the talk page. ← ANAS Talk? 13:57, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
My pleasure. Glad to help, Alexander. Good luck improving the article. :-) ← ANAS Talk? 16:42, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Al-Kindi and Science[edit]

I just added some info regarding his notable accomplishments in science. I am sorry I couldn't do it earlier, I am really busy in real life ;( Jidan 00:16, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh Thank you, same thing to you! BTW, I read the comment above by ANAS, as far as I know, the E=MC2 barnstar is for contributions regarding to science, and the Tireless Contributor Barnstar, is as the name says, for tireless contributions. Now, since you were editing a science related article, and tiressly, I thought a combination of both, the E=MC2 star and tirelss Contributor title were right. Also, I don't know of any standards for barnstars (checkout for example the barnstars this guy has [2]. In any case:
The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
For contributing immensely to the article Al-Kindi.

Jidan 00:30, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

and oh yeah, you can submitt it for reviewing if you want. Jidan 00:32, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
WOW...thanks man for the barnstar!! Jidan 01:04, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You are doing a great job alex. Jidan 19:30, 12 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Al-Kindi[edit]

I used the automated peer-review and this is what came up, you can work on these.

The following suggestions were generated by a semi-automatic javascript program, and might not be applicable for the article in question.

  • The lead of this article may be too long, or may contain too many paragraphs. Please follow guidelines at WP:LEAD; be aware that the lead should adequately summarize the article.[?]
  • See if possible if there is a free use image that can go on the top right corner of this article.[?]
  • If this article is about a person, please add {{persondata|PLEASE SEE [[WP:PDATA]]!}} along with the required parameters to the article - see Wikipedia:Persondata for more information.[?]
  • Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (headings), headings generally do not start with articles ('the', 'a(n)'). For example, if there was a section called ==The Biography==, it should be changed to ==Biography==.[?]
  • Please reorder/rename the last few sections to follow guidelines at Wikipedia:Guide to layout.[?]
  • Watch for redundancies that make the article too wordy instead of being crisp and concise. (You may wish to try Tony1's redundancy exercises.)
    • While additive terms like “also”, “in addition”, “additionally”, “moreover”, and “furthermore” may sometimes be useful, overusing them when they aren't necessary can instead detract from the brilliancy of the article. This article has 17 additive terms, a bit too much.
    • Vague terms of size often are unnecessary and redundant - “some”, “a variety/number/majority of”, “several”, “a few”, “many”, “any”, and “all”. For example, “All pigs are pink, so we thought of a number of ways to turn them green.”
  • Avoid using contractions like: hadn't, wasn't.
  • As done in WP:FOOTNOTE, footnotes usually are located right after a punctuation mark (as recommended by the CMS, but not mandatory), such that there is no space in between. For example, the sun is larger than the moon [2]. is usually written as the sun is larger than the moon.[2][?]
  • Please ensure that the article has gone through a thorough copyediting so that it exemplifies some of Wikipedia's best work. See also User:Tony1/How to satisfy Criterion 1a.[?]

You may wish to browse through User:AndyZ/Suggestions for further ideas. Goodluck with your goal M3tal H3ad 04:45, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I really appreciate your effort at Talk:Islamist_terrorism#Article_Name. It is good to know another good person around. --- ALM 17:13, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your message[edit]

Thanks for your message; no hard feelings. If you too think that this dislike of the normal transliteration is unwarranted, it's not too late to reverse it. I'm about to go to bed, but I'll get back to you tomorrow. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 00:01, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It looks as thought he discussion is now under way at the article's Talk page. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 13:09, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has asked for a community reassessment of this article to see if it still meets the good article criteria. The discussion is at Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/Al-Kindi/1. Jezhotwells (talk) 00:36, 23 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
