Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! HagermanBot 23:43, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but my count was incorrect! I've only made 1000 edits, not 10,000! I'm sorry for any confusion. --24.136.230.38 00:10, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So, I am sorry, but I cannot accept this award, for I have not made 10,000 edits *yet*. I simply mistook a userbox to say 10000 when I really have 1000 (around 2000 now). --24.136.230.38 00:14, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Whstchy. An automated process has found and will an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that is in your userspace. The image (Image:Maxridebook.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Whstchy/mywip. This image or media will be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. This does not necessarily mean that the image is being deleted, or that the image is being removed from other pages. It is only being removed from the page mentioned above. All mainspace instances of this image will not be affected Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. I originally tagged it as a copyvio, I didn't realize that it was rewritten though when I reverted. Its still not much of a change. It seems like the rewrite just consisted of removing big chunks. He might be notable, but its a stretch. I can't find any source that he was the subject of and the page it was originally copied from is his official website it seems. Lloyd Youngblood

[edit]

Hi - regarding Lloyd Youngblood, I don't believe it meets the criteria for speedy deletion - his notability is asserted in the article (although whether he's actually notable is arguable, the assertion is made) and it is not "blatant advertising" (CSD G11). Personally I think it's borderline at best and probably fails WP:BIO, as most of the references are to press releases and other unreliable sources. The best approach, if you think he's not notable, is to nominate the article for deletion via the full process; it doesn't meet the criteria for speedy deletion, though, at least in my opinion. MastCell Talk 21:03, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Annnd... it looks like all the wrestling fans have come out of the woodwork. :) Dr. Jobe is far more notable, and even he doesn't have an article. DarkAudit 02:21, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I removed the speedy deletion tag you placed on this article. Being a published author, Dobransky would seem to be notable, so if you would like to insist on his article's deletion, a better avenue would probably be AfD. Thanks. Johnleemk | Talk 08:21, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I certainly agree, though I doubt speedy deletion is the best way to get more information about Dobransky. ;-) Johnleemk | Talk 17:47, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I declined the speedy on this page as there appears to be a claim on notability & 1 link to external coverage. AfD may be appropriate, however. — Scientizzle 21:59, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Look at American films of 1930 - i will format them like this -I am doing a decade at a time -categories cannot provide details of direcotrs, actors, gentre studios and notes awards etc. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 20:06, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I should have added all the details first really -sorry! If you are aware of my work on wikipedia you'll know i won't create pointless articles - I intend to add tables as much info as possible -details of studios all if I can cram it all in -i intend it to be a document for each year in American film which general articles don't cover -it should have been done ages ago!!!! There are many many missing films it will begin to develop like List of Argentine films:1950s for each year!!! Thanks for seeing my aim . Ah 30s films are great particularly the westerns - those starring John Wayne. There should be ebough films eventually to have sections A-Z under each year. All the best ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" Contribs 20:36, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I'm NOT against there being categorizations for LGBT. I'm only against CERTAIN categorization. For example, LGBT writers and LGBT politicians totally makes sense. LGBT academics THAT write about sexuality (or something at least loosely connected to them being LGBT) is fine too. The thing is that's not what those categories were intended for. The original author apparently orphaned the article. As you can see, I expanded it greatly. I would hope this negates the ned for a speedy. Realkyhick 22:05, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I would've tagged it too if you hadn't beaten me to it. :-) But being a horse racing fan, I thought I would salvage an article about an obviously noteworthy track. It also prompted me to write an article about Remington Park, which I included in the article (both tracks were built by the same guy) and then saw it was redlinked. Arenaball

[edit]

I typically add a comment to WP:AIV when I decide not to block a user. I then add a message on the talk page of the person who reported the incident, and clear out the AIV entry. I think it is important for the person who reports an incident get notified why blocking didn't happen. For some reason, it looks like I didn't do that in this case.

I am essentially done with the matter. I know nothing about sports, so I can't comment on whether the claims on either side were true or not. What was clear to me was that it wasn't typical vandalism, and looked more like two sides of an issue calling the other side wrong. I would recommend that the two sides try to work something out, but if that doesn't happen, try arbitration. -- wrp103 (Bill Pringle) (Talk) 02:55, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppets

[edit]

David,

If you "know nothing about sports"(as stated above) then why are you going around Wiki calling people names (I.E. - sockpuppet). If it was any of your business, I'm a huge fan of the old school indoor football and I have tons of info and pics/logos to HELP Wikipedia get better. But its people like you that bring Wiki down and will be banned from here. I've had extra time this week to upload dozens of logos and info to Wiki about indoor football, & since I was a former webmaster for a team, season tix holder for several teams, and current online fan club moderator for others, I think I know what I'm talking about. In other words, stay away for areas you know nothing about and stop starting trouble. arenafoot (Brian M.)

I've removed the speedy tag you placed on this article, as the article asserts notability, so the speedy process can't be used. Since the article states and provides refs to show that the subject, and his book, have been the subject of multiple non-trivial media coverage, he actually meets the notability criteria for authors. Would you please re-evaluate your AfD comments and frame them in light of meeting or not meeting guidelines? That would be most helpful. Thanks. AKRadecki 00:12, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You nominated this New Zealand lake for speedy deletion exactly ONE MINUTE after its initial creation while the writer was still working on it. Please give people a chance to write an article. Furthermore major geographical landmarks, such as a lake, are automatically notable on wikipedia. Did you try checking up on this lake's existence before nominating it? Did you try adding a source or extra information yourself? Such haste in nominating articles is very discouraging to people trying to add content to Wikipedia. I'm sure you're doing a good job in weeding out the rubbish, but sometimes pausing for a moment before nominating stuff for speedy deletion would save everyone else some hassle. Hi, Alexandria, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
  • If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome!

Critical period pronouncements

[edit]

Do you have any ideas for a better name for the Timeline of pronouncements of a critical period for the U.S. occupation of Iraq? The list was originally at Friedman (unit) but people attacked it for being too biased/original research. Actually, maybe just getting rid of "pronouncements" is better. If we take the quotations at face value, then they identify what the critical periods of the occupation of Iraq are. One might draw the conclusion that every period of the occupation is critical, but that's for the reader to decide, I suppose. Mmmm, I agree that that one is tricky. Not being able to read Norwegian, the sources are hard for me to verify. In fact, I might decline on that basis--articles on the English Wikipedia need to be able to be verified by English readers.
