(I've removed my warning, as it wasn't really warranted here. freshacconci talktalk 16:23, 10 June 2009 (UTC))

O.k I am new to wikipedia. You seem to have experience at doing it. I am reading the book how wikipedia works. I thought that by doing small changes will give me confidence to add my contributions. I recently adquired a collection of Israel Levitan who was an american abstract expressionist. The ArtNews Editorial voted Levitan’s exhibition at the Barone Gallery as one of The ten best one-man exhibitions in New York galleries in 1959, along with Pablo Picasso, Hans Hofmann, Ad Reinhardt and William de Kooning. I am gathering references before I add his own page in wikipedia. He was involved in New York after WWII please check...Israel and Idee Levitan pepers, 1946-1982, Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institutuion.
I do not know if I should just start the page with 3 references and probably two paragraps...are you going to delete it if I do it? Aliciapenelope (talk)

Sorry if I came on too strong. I don't want to discourage you from contributing. You can add things to articles as long as they are sourced. I'll leave the standard welcome message which has lots of links to let you know how things work, how to contribute to existing articles and how to create an article. If Levitan is notable (see WP:N) and you have the sources (see WP:V), you may want to try creating an article about him. Good luck. freshacconci talktalk 16:23, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Great, Thanks I will try to create the article, but before I have to familiarize with wiki. I am sure I will be soliciting your help, thanks for offering it. Aliciapenelope (talk) 17:40, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Help with first article[edit]

{{helpme}} I'm about to enter my first article. Can you please help me with my editing? Aliciapenelope (talk) 19:40, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What is the article?--Gordonrox24 | Talk 19:41, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
the article is about Israel Levitan, I got all the information, but I need supervision, I guess
Aliciapenelope (talk) 19:53, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
he was an American abstract expressionist sculptor
Aliciapenelope (talk) 19:54, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What I think you should do is post the article at a subpage of your user or user talk space. For example, if, as I suspect, the article is about a person named Smith (per your edits to the formatting sandbox), you can create the article at [[[User talk:Aliciapenelope/Levitan]]. Once you start writing it there, and have gotten it to the point where you're ready for some experienced users to look at it, you can repost the helpme tag here, or better yet, ask for some people to have a look at it through a post at the help desk (that will get more eyes on it than a helpme tag). Once the article is ready to "go live", it can be moved to a proper name in the main article space. Before you begin, please be aware of our notability policy covering persons, our requirement of neutral point of view in writing, our requirements that information in articles be verified through reliable, independent, third party sources, our instruction page on how to cite sources, and our prohibition on original research. Also, please note that articles that appear to be advertising will be deleted. I have no idea if that is relevant to what you wish to create at all, but I would be remiss in not mentioning it because it is so common here. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 19:59, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I edit conflicted with you on your post above. In other words, I did not read that before I wrote mine. I am leaving it unchanged, but now that you have revealed the subject, it does not sound like there should be any notability issues or advertising concerns. I have also change the proposed subpage name to something more targeted.
Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 19:59, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
great thanks, I will be following your advise. Aliciapenelope (talk) 20:05, 3 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again Alicia. You're doing a great job. I formatted your references and placed a references section so they display as well as added categories. A few notes at this early stage, since you wanted feedback. You're overlinking in certain places. For example, when you mention Hans Hofmann, you make an internal wikilink to his article but then, when you repeat his name two more times in the same paragraph, you link him again both times. Normally the rule is link the first time you mention and don't link again, or certainly not nearby. On another matter, some of your in text references don't appear to be functioning as references. For example, the reference in the first paragraph does not appear to verify what that paragraph says. It's just a link to a website where Levitan is listed as a former member, and doesn't verify his date of birth and death, where he lived, his father's heritage, etc. Or, for example, when you mention the San Francisco Museum of Fine Arts, you place an external link to that organization's website. That's link doesn't verify what you are saying—that Levitan's work has been shown there. That's what such an external link in the text should function as and should do. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 15:23, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help and corrections. I have pamplets of his exhibitions in several museum, some of this pamplets are also at the Smithsonian achives of american art, can I mention all the museums or just send a link to the Smithsonian. Also I have a photo of him that I would like to post, but I understand I am not allowed to do it, perhaps you can help with with that, I would really apreciate it. I will make the corrections that you mentioned and will get better references. Thanks for your help and happy 4 of July.
Aliciapenelope (talk) 16:34, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I think I send the answer somewhere else. I will make the corrections and will list better references. Thank you...and now...how do I retrieve my article, I am looking for it, but could not find it. Also how do I communicate with you should I just type fuhghettaboutti?
