Glasflugel blank page[edit]

I hear what you are saying however someone had left the page in a re-direct loop and an article really needs writing so I have reduced the confusion rather than exacerbated it(5 syllables!!!!). There were several in the glasflugel section of list of aircraft, the others I left a note in but had finger trouble with glasflugel 604 (talk) 14:21, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cavoliniidae[edit]

I think Cavoliniidae was deleted in err. Please restore it if you can per [1]. I will check for circ. links etc. Many thanks.--Anna Frodesiak (talk) 18:53, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am another member of WikiProject Gastropods. Cavoliniidae was a pretty good family article, I think I worked on it some yesterday. Cavolinioidea on the other hand is different, it is a superfamily article which should link to the family article. Now Cavoliniidae is reduced to being only a circular link on the Cavolinioidea page. I think maybe it is possible that User:JoJan, an admin, got rid of it by mistake, based on misunderstanding a note I sent him yesterday on his talk page. Thanks so much if you can restore it. Invertzoo (talk) 20:21, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have also asked JoJan about this. Invertzoo (talk) 21:15, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, me again. OK. Thank you very much for your kind explanation. I apologize: now it seems I am entirely wrong in thinking there ever was a Cavoliniidae article. I guess it was a false memory. I was doing a lot of editing that day and probably mixed it up with another closely similar superfamily. I am very sorry to have bothered you with what turned out to be a bogus request. Very best wishes, Invertzoo (talk) 23:53, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Page blanking[edit]

First of all, I did not blank that page, as it was already blank. It contained nothing but a redirect to the same article that linked to it, which is stupid, and far more liable to "confuse" people than mere absence of content. All I did was remove a redundant redirect, which is hardly of the same intent as someone who "blanks" a page. Where the idea that absence of content is "confusing" came from, I don't know, but it's a presumptuous idea, in my view.

Second, you might want to reconsider leaving template warnings to administrators whose editing tenure and edit count is almost the same of yours. Template warnings admonishing against things like page blanking is, as I've been told, intended for newbies, and is considered poor form when given to veteran editors. Thanks. I'm just wondering why cascading protection isn't working for this image. -- King of ♠ 21:40, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I guess I am still used to doing things old school. I first learned to perform updates before cascading protection existed and have seen enough reports about cascading protection not working as expected to have fulled abandon my original ways. Worst case, the image has two layers of protection. --Allen3 talk 21:49, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for the rewrite of this article. Thanks, will do. On an unrelated note, it's best if you don't verify and promote in one step. DYK: Scissor Sisters (convicted killers)[edit]

Hi there. I just saw a hook for this article come up on my watchlist. Please could you tweak the hook to state that the scissor sisters being referred are the convicted killers? At present, it could cause confusion because it looks as if it could refer to the band of the same name. It might look as though the murders are attributed to them rather than the sisters that are actually being referred to :). Let me know what you think. Seraphim 14:58, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have added some verbiage that should make it obvious that this is not referring to the band by the same name. --Allen3 talk 15:06, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please be careful when promoting DYK hooks[edit]

This promotion was not appropriate, the article is currently up at AfD and we generally do not feature articles on the main page when they have AfD tags on them (even if the AfD is getting a bunch of keep votes right now); it's better to wait out the end of the AfD. Also, while there's no official rule against it, it's generally best not to verify and promote the same articles yourself unless there's an urgent need for a queue to fill up; rather, you can just leave the on a nom, and someone else will promote it later, that way there are opportunities for people to double-check each other. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 23:30, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sean Dixon page[edit]

Hi there Allen,

I'm Sean Dixon. You deleted my page.

I'm a bit embarrassed to be writing this, but I'll go ahead.

I don't know who set up that page, I did not ask for it or set it up for myself, but I'll confess I was proud of it once I saw it up here, and I was sad to see it taken down.

Whoever set it up seemed to have been prioritizing a novel I wrote a couple of years ago. It's the only achievement that was listed. In fact, I've written more than 15 plays and had them produced here in Canada, all over the country, over the last 20 years. There's plenty of evidence of my career online. I've had several of these plays published as well, been nominated for awards, and I've had some other publications as well. Children's books and such. When I was young, I helped found a theatre company that people learn about in Canadian Theatre history class at various universities here. It's a fact I normally consider to be funny, but in this case I'm trying to use it to prove that, while my page was up, I was a worthy subject for Wikipedia. All my fellow Canadian playwrights of similar status have such pages.

I understand why you took it down. I should have taken the initiative, once it was set up, to make it fully reflect my career. But it seemed self-aggrandizing at the time. Now it just seems like the practical thing to have done.

Any chance it could be restored?

Yours,

Sean Dixon (seandix at gmail dot com) Canada

70.30.138.179 (talk) 17:51, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am not sure of which article you are referring to. While I did delete the article Sean dixon, the contents of that article ("good person") do not match the article you describe and considering the time between its creation and deletion it is unlikely you would have noticed its existence unless you were notified of the article at its time of creation. A search through logs of my last 12 to 18 months of admin actions show no other articles that come close to your name.
As there does not appear to be a valid article to restore, or even one containing a complete sentence, I see no reason to restore the article I deleted. That being said, there is no reason I am aware of preventing recreation of a new article (preferably with a correctly capitalized name). Please see Wikipedia:Your first article for more information on how to do this properly. --Allen3 talk 18:20, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tad Kepley page deletion[edit]

Regarding the deletion of the "Tad Kepley" page, he is a real person. He is an infamous, provocative person who spends lots of time contacting and getting involved with anarchists and other radicals all over the U.S., and then causing trouble or behaving suspiciously. My personal opinion, having been visited, and hearing about his activities from others, is that he is either crazy, he belongs to an anti-anarchist group of some kind, or he is being paid by someone to collect information on and disrupt anarchist projects. He takes "more extremist than thou" positions, and a sincere extremist would have better things to do with his time, I would think, than visiting people he disagrees with and harassing them. He has a Facebook page and numerous publications on the internet. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.161.229.100 (talk) 14:13, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The article in question was deleted via an AfD discussion that found no evidence that sufficient reliable sources to produce a verifiable and neutral article existed (that is the primary meaning on non-notable on Wikipedia). Do you have any evidence that new sources have come into existence during the four-and-a-half years since the AFD discussion? --Allen3 talk 14:31, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not saying he is worthy of an article on Wikipedia, but when I followed the link from the Jason McQuinn article, I saw that his page was deleted because there was some question as to whether he was a real or mythical person. My point is, he is a real person, he does publish articles and they are posted on the internet. Just FYI, and you can decide where to go from there.114.161.229.100 (talk) 14:48, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any chance it could be 'fast-tracked' so that it can appear in the DYK column today to catch the zeitgeist, while it is still a 'hot' story and people are therefore more likely to donate to his cause? Hello, I'm trying to solve a dispute. An unidentified user keeps changing Noel Gallagher's personal identity from English (which I think is most accurate if you're born in England) to British. The user claims that because Gallagher says he "does not have a drop of English blood" in him, that automatically makes him British. Please help. Thanks.MauriceAgrippa (talk) 16:39, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Allen3, thank you for your assistance. The above note is not accurate--it is Noel Gallagher who states emphatically that he is not "English", I am not trying to "change" him, but rather represent what HIS belief/words dictate about what/how he is represented. The user says " which I think is most accurate", well Noel Gallagher doesn't agree. As much as that may bother those who, I believe, probably have a different preference that might just happen to match their own pov/preference--just a theory.....I've asked this person to also take it to the talk page, yet he/she is close to the 3rd revert

Hmmm, by the way It does seem rather peculiar that the MauriceAgrippa account appears to have been just been set up, and addresses only this particular point?? Odd?? Thank you.173.76.208.66 (talk) 22:13, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For some reason, John L Brewer is not listed on AZ Chiro or Naturo website as having ever been licensed there. Don't know why. Apologies for having offended anyone. First time on wiki and I'm obviously far from a computer wiz. I just can't believe she was made governor. I was personally offended that the years of damage (I mean service) he did to naturopathic profession and to patients especially is not readily available. If the Bio said he was a "successful chiropractor AND naturopath and served on the NP BOMEX Board" I probably would not have pushed it so hard. So, I am done. Unless of course this verifiable info I provided disappears. There is so much more to this story but it is ugly and hurtful to many patients. The bare facts stand for themselves. Best wishes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.144.76.155 (talk) 23:21, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nomination of 2010 European Under-18 Rugby Union Championship[edit]

I've tried to address your concerns with the hook, hope its sufficent. Calistemon (talk) 02:01, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

for this - I didn't notice that T:TDYK again glitched after my promotion. Materialscientist (talk) 00:33, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thought I should let you know[edit]

I thought that I should let you know that my source for the Gothic hook wasn't offline. The source used was this (the only non-self published source that I could find with all of the awards). Joe Chill (talk) 22:55, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Stubs on aircraft articles[edit]

Thought you might want to know, the aero specs missing template isn't a stub template (which would, in the case of the Boeing Phantom Ray article that caught my attention this way, Template:aero-2000s-stub), but a totally different critter that IMHO shouldn't be a DYK problem if it's on an article - since the specs don't count torwards the 1500 characters. :) - The Bushranger Return fireFlank speed 19:34, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I can understand that completely. :) - The Bushranger Return fireFlank speed 19:47, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DYK[edit]

Since you participate in DYK a lot, do you think that you can explain to Wilhelmina Will what 5x is?: User talk:Wilhelmina Will# Abraxas sylvata. Joe Chill (talk) 22:29, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. It appeared that what I said wouldn't persuade him. Joe Chill (talk) 22:46, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

William M. Bunn[edit]

Just curious — was his wife really named "Cathanne", or is this a typo? Nyttend (talk) 13:22, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh, okay; I overlooked the fact that your References section included a Google Books link in your references section, so I assumed that it was a print source. What an unusual name...thanks for the reply! Nyttend (talk) 13:36, 23 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for finding my mistake at T:TDYK#National Library of Indonesia. I have addressed your concerns at the nomination. Arsonal (talk) 17:15, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unbalanced updates[edit]

You know how it is Allen - updating DYK is the kind of job where nobody says a word about all the times you get it right, but only when something goes wrong :)

I noted that in Prep 2 today, all eight hooks are US-related. I don't know why you did this, but I can't imagine it was at all necessary when you have 100 verified hooks to choose from. We will get complaints if this one goes to the main page, so I will probably substitute a couple of non-US hooks at some stage. Please try to pay a little more attention to this issue. Other than that, thanks once again for your contributions. Gatoclass (talk) 01:45, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Oops! Misread the diffs. Sorry. I forgot that people sometimes shuffle updates around from one prep to another these days. Gatoclass (talk) 03:38, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Queue move[edit]

Prep 1 needs moved to Queue 4. Since it has one of my noms in it, I'd prefer someone else do it. Can you take care of it? Thanks.RlevseTalk 00:18, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nomination of Richard Madden[edit]

Article itself has now been modified to assert only what the source states and not require anyone to do any math or look up release and/or filming dates elsewhere. I responded at the Richard Madden entry at Talk DYK with an alternate hook that will not confuse. Thanks much, Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 19:04, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there. You recently participated in a discussion at WP:ANI regarding the systematic removal of Media Matters for America as a reliable source. I've started an RfC regarding MMfA, MRC, FAIR, Newsbusters etc. Please participate on the Reliable Sources Talk page here. Skoal. Phoenix and Winslow (talk) 12:17, 31 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

RfC: Partisan sources[edit]

I have proposed an edit for the mainspace of an important Wikipedia policy, the Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources policy. Essentially, I believe that some sources are so partisan that using them as "reliable sources" invites more problems than they're really worth. You've previously participated in the RfC on this subject, or another related discussion indicating that you are interested in this important policy area. Please indicate here whether you support or oppose the proposed edit. The original discussion is here. Phoenix and Winslow (talk) 12:55, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
