In case you didn't get my ping

[edit]
Hi and welcome User:Allergicapples|Allergicapples. I'm not sure I'm the right person to ask, as I have done very little on Lekking. As for stepping on my shoes, that is not of direct interest in good-faith work in WP, so don't let it worry you. The updating of a whole sizeable section might attract some reaction, but need not be serious as long as your edits follow the rules. The articles do NOT belong to the author anyway, and good work that expands an article is welcome. If anyone starts bullying you, you can always call in an arbitrator. Just remember to keep your cool at all times and not to feed the trolls nor gratify any nasty little wikiwarriors.
The one thing that worries me is your speaking of a separate article, which sounds as though it amounts to forking. There are rules about that. I recommend that you read a bit about it at Wikipedia:Content forking. I have no fish to fry, and as long as all is in order in terms of the rules, you need not worry about other editors, but if you are in fact being naughty according to the rules, then you might have your effort rejected very rapidly. If you are left in doubt, drop me another note, and I'll try to assist, though I am no WP expert. (I suppose you HAVE looked at the Help:Contents?) @JonRichfield: Thanks Jon. The article AA wishes to edit is Lek mating, and I'm happy to help but a bit worried about the separate article thingy. I suggest it would be best to practise in the User:Allergicapples/sandbox to see how to get the wikilinks, images, and references to work properly, rather than on a live article. None of it is at all difficult (far easier than getting a paper published in a decent journal), but it takes a little practice. A key point is that the text is marked up to indicate desired formatting, so it's no good copying the plain text, he needs to work on the Wikitext, which he can get by pressing the relevant Edit button and copying what he sees then. That will I think make this conversation a whole lot easier. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 21:11, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Chiswick Chap Thanks CC. I don't know whether you saw AA's original message and reply to me at my own talk page, but I got the impression that it concerns working on a project on a deadline, which might constrain the options. This said @Allergicapples, the advice is good, better informed than my own. As I might have hinted, I suspect that you could be a very valuable contributor to WP, and however your project turns out, I recommend that you do look in on the Teahouse as invited. Posting the whole revision on the article's talk page - please don't

Thanks for your reply on the article's talk page. Just one procedural detail - no need to "post" anything, specially not a long text. Just let us know (on the article talk page) when it's ready in your sandbox, and I or someone else will take a look at it in situ. Chiswick Chap (talk) 10:21, 9 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
