Re: Heritage site in Israel[edit]

Hi Allexkoch,

On the first issue: you can check this page in the Hebrew Wikipedia, which contains numbers and images for the sites in the Old City of Jerusalem. Each entry has an English name as well.

On the second issue: not sure what kind of directory you are looking for. If you need it for general orientation / non-professional purposes, OpenStreetMap should be plenty good, and it contains most of the streets in the languages you want. If you want something more authoritative, I'm sure the municipal website has a list of streets there, but it might be more difficult to separate them by district, or translate into other languages. Finally, there is a book listing every street in Tel Aviv and its meaning, so it's likely that there's one for Jerusalem. I wasn't able to find it with a quick search, but would check with an Israeli book store. It will almost certainly be only in Hebrew though.

Hi again,
Authorities: the list I gave you comes from the Heritage Site Preservation Council in Israel. It deals with heritage sites that were built after 1700. There is a larger authority that deals with sites built earlier, called the Antiquities Authority. Their sites are here.
However, as you said, the lists are not complete, and I can even say that the numbers are not authoritative. The preservation council doesn't have any numerical IDs for their sites, so we had to invent them—however, they were approved by the council, and we have a long-term partnership with them. I think the Antiquities Authority has some kind of internal ID system but they haven't disclosed it as far as I know.
Streets: In OSM every street in the Old City has an English tag. Most of them are both in Hebrew and Arabic as well, but many indeed don't have an Arabic tag now that I looked at it. It might be best to ask in the OSM Israel forum, there's at least one person there who is fluent in Arabic and should be able to help.
