Information icon Hello, I'm DoubleGrazing. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted; Wikipedia articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. DoubleGrazing (talk) 05:56, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, DoubleGrazing! Thanks for your input.. kindly let me know what can done to make this article acceptable? Aloofries (talk) 06:00, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You need to write in a neutral, factual, non-promotional manner. You also cannot write what you want to write, or what the business in question wants to say about itself; we only want to know what entirely unconnected third parties, and more to the point reliable secondary sources (books, newspapers, magazines, TV and radio programmes, etc.), have said about them. Your draft cites no such source. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 06:11, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Aloofries. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Draft:Pushpa Jewellers, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Aloofries. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Aloofries|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. DoubleGrazing (talk) 06:08, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your message. I confirm that I am not receiving compensation for this edit. As the subject of the article, I provided the information for the Wikipedia page about Pushpa Jewellers Pvt Ltd. If you have any further questions or require clarification, please feel free to ask. Aloofries (talk) 06:14, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What is your relationship with this business? How did you pick this as the subject of your very first edit? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 06:48, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I chose Pushpa Jewellers Pvt Ltd as the topic for my first edit because it's a business I'm personally familiar with and passionate about. Having been involved in the industry for a while, I wanted to contribute to the Wikipedia community by sharing information about a company I admire. Pushpa Jewellers' journey and accomplishments resonate with me, and I believe it's important to highlight the hard work and dedication that goes into building a successful business. Aloofries (talk) 06:53, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You'll need to be more specific, what does "personally familiar with and passionate about" mean in concrete terms? Do you work there? Do you own it? Do you know the owners, and do they know you? Have you had real-life dealings with the owners or managers of this business? Thanks, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 06:55, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
When I mentioned being "personally familiar with and passionate about" Pushpa Jewellers Pvt Ltd, I meant that I have had real-life dealings with the owners, since I'm a jewellery enthusiast. I do not work for Pushpa Jewellers, nor do I own any stake in the company. However, I have interacted with the owners and managers in a professional capacity and have visited their retail outlets on several occasions. While I do not have a personal relationship with them outside of business interactions, I am familiar with their work ethic, values, and contributions to the industry. My intention in writing about Pushpa Jewellers was to provide an informative overview based on my firsthand experiences and observations. Aloofries (talk) 06:58, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thank you. Based on what you say, you probably don't have a paid-editing issue, but do have a general conflict-of-interest (COI) which still needs to be disclosed. I will post another message below with instructions. Please action this promptly. Thank you. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 07:00, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Aloofries. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Hello, Aloofries. Thank you for helping to build Wikipedia-- the world's largest free content encyclopedia. A page you created  Draft:Pushpa Jewellers has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seemed to be unambiguous advertising which only promoted a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to have been fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic.

This article needs to be rewritten from scratch from reliable, third party sources unconnected to the subject. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted.

Information on content and common pitfalls to avoid can be located here and here, however be aware that this is not an exhaustive list. Pages can sometimes avoid these pitfalls and still be seen as an ad copy or unambiguously promotional, particularly if the editor appears to be a paid editor or has some other conflict of interest. Please review these policies, including the FAQ page on organizations to determine if this applies to you.

Common mistakes or beliefs about promotional editing center on the assumption that promotional editing only applies to promotion for commercial gain. Some tags or G11 nominations are met with confusion by creators, particularly if they spend much time reading or creating corporate documents, mission/vision statements, or similar copy for their organization. The frequent exposure to promotional tone may make it difficult to notice non-neutral phrases or styles, as the editor has grown accustomed to seeing it as everyday writing or speech. This can be difficult, but not impossible, to unlearn.

Another common assumption is that the prohibition against promotional editing applies only to businesses or organizations. It applies to any topic, including a person, a non-commercial organization, a point of view, etc. and CV/resumé's are by their nature promotional.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia-- subjects must meet notability guidelines with reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and providing verifiable information. That generally means someone unconnected with the subject needs to have written a great deal about the subject. Please see this page on citing sources and Wikipedia:Common sourcing mistakes (notability). This page has templates you can use in citing your sources. Place the template {{Reflist}} at the bottom of the page, and references cited in the text will appear there. New article creation can be difficult, but the Article Wizard can help you. The new user tutorial can help you avoid future problems. You can ask for help at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk and on IRC chat Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Adventure is a useful tutorial.

New article creation can be difficult and frustrating. Sometimes it is better to first gain experience by fixing and helping maintain existing articles. Wikipedia:Community portal/Opentask contains links to things that badly need doing, if you are so inclined. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 07:42, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
