Proposed deletion of Mustafa Ülgen

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Mustafa Ülgen, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

non-notable person

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Mustafa Ülgen. Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. Thank you. Bihco (talk) 22:37, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. Welcome to Wikipedia (I think I am right in supposing that you're new here?) I'm replying to your comment at my talk page about your new article about your father, Mustafa Ülgen. It seems to me that you are running into a bit of bother in creating this article. Firstly, well done in being bold and creating it! However, you need to prove that Ülgen is notable enough to be on Wikipedia: crucially, by using references to reliable, independent sources. Look at other biographies for examples.

I recently created an article on the physicist Elepter Andronikashvili, whose autobiography I was reading at the time. Other people have added additional references since I created the article - that's the great thing about Wikipedia - but I did start it with a couple to show I hadn't just made this guy up. Also notice the structure of the article. I think that the Ülgen article should maybe have a "Contributions to dentistry" section, with a balanced assessment of his impact on the field.

If you improve the style of the article (make it consistent with the style of other biographies on WP) and add references to back up the article's text, there should be no problem with your contribution - have fun! One final warning - don't be drawn into heated arguments on the talk page. It can seem that other editors are being difficult, and it is rather dismaying that people want to delete your contributions, but remember that the other editors are trying to improve the encyclopedia, and keep a cool head. It's much better to put your efforts into improving the article rather than arguing on the talk page.

If you've any further questions, feel free to ask me (or another editor) for help at any time (I'll check here). Also, don't forget to sign your edits on talk pages with ~~~~ (as I think someone said above) A.C. Norman (talk) 11:49, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I saw that the Turkish version of the Mustafa Ülgen article was deleted again. Perhaps you should wait a bit until the English version gets polished and translate that to be included in the Turkish wikipedia. Jarkeld (talk) 19:52, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

In reply to your questions at my talk page, I'm probably not a good person to ask on this, as I don't often cite non-English sources. WP:CITE offers some guidance on what to do, which I can't better from my experience. The Turkish "Who's Who" ought to be fine as a reference, but I still think you need to hammer home why the subject of the article is notable enough to be included on Wikipedia in a "contributions to dentistry" section - for example, is there a particular new technique or method which Mustafa Ülgen has developed or pioneered?
