Ram Krishen Kaul[edit]

Sorry, Ambar, but even one quotation in this draft has thrown up a host of problems. You have misquoted the guy, used the wrong quote format, not stated who he is and have linked to a non-English source even though the title appears to be in English. What is going on with this bloke? It is very confusing. - Sitush (talk) 10:48, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, if you are referring to the following quote "It is stated that all Kashmiri Pandits were ....", I had cited the following reference. Ram Kishen Kaul is the author of Sociology of names & nicknames of India. I think I provided the wrong page number, & that may have led to the confusion. Kindly take a look at the link above and refer page 131-133. Thanks. -Ambar (talk) 15:21, 25 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Have just corrected the spelling to Ram Krishen Kaul. btw, its an english source. The complete quote reads as follows
"The use of surnames in ancient Kashmir is negligable. Present Kashmiri surnames have more or less evolved during the muslim or sikh rule. It is stated that almost all Kashmiri Pandits were Kouls and they were later on subdivided according to different nicknames and with the passage of time, these nicknames became permanent surnames. There seems to be some truth in this statement primarily because all Kashmiri Pandits are Saivites and Mahakoul is one of the names of Lord Shiva, & secondly because the number of nicknames even now associated with surname Koul is the largest of all. Moreover, in recent years the use of nicknames is being progressively discarded and surname Koul is being adopted by almost all such people. -Ambar (talk) 06:33, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
