Aubrey, checked out your proposed topic - i think it's great! I wasn't able to open the BSU link, but if it has some substantial coverage, you're good. I know that Sarah, who left you a welcome above, is a big public art fan (she's very helpful, I might ask her to look in on your draft when it's up). Hey Wikipidiots, as you may have noticed, I deleted the copy of the draft from Interior's talk page and referred him here; I'm sure he's expecting it to be in Aubrey's sandbox and will probably leave comments in her User Talk page. The article is coming along, but is not yet supported by citations. I know we're working on finding more sources, but in the meantime, the one you have should be included where info is used, and at least once a paragraph. Also, could AUbrey or someone put a request for source help in the talk page that was suggested by a WIkipedia "good Samaritan" on Interior's talk page? Student orientation: how to edit Wikipedia[edit]

Hi! I hope you're excited to edit Wikipedia as a part of your class this semester! Since this is likely a new way of completing an assignment and the community norms and expectations are new to you, we've created this awesome orientation for students. It covers a lot of the basics of editing Wikipedia and ways you can use your coursework to improve the encyclopedia. It takes 1-2 hours to complete, and I believe this thorough introduction will save you time in the end. It will help you figure out how to create content that sticks and can serve as a reference throughout your editing. Aubrey, to get to Doug's first message you need to go to his talk page, in Archive 9 The Internet Public Library may be a good place to try. Also, I haven't heard from the BSU Art Museum folks, so you should go ahead and contact them directly. Email Tania Said at tsaid@bsu.edu. Notes on the live article[edit]

Looking good, folks. Nice addition to the wikipedia! Needs a bit of an overall copyedit (and a photo). Few more detailed points:

  • "Idyll" vs. "Idyl" for the main page title. You've used the second throughout the article. Which one does the majority of your sources use? That should be the page title. (policy)
  • Wikilinks - both incoming and outgoing. Need to make links in the article to other wikipedia articles, and find relevant articles where links could be made to yours. Do this by adding square brackets (comme ça,: [[asparagus]]) around proper nouns and terms of interest to the reader. Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Linking
  • Artist section - this is a bit too much info on the artist. Usually you just do a brief bio and maybe details of his life around the period he created the pieces. Some of this info could be incorporated in the artist's Wikipedia page, which you'll find when you wikilink him! The Interior (Talk) 23:45, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Future projects[edit]

IF you are doing any future articles, drop me a note and I will give you clues.

  • Second: Get pictures for your new article at Flickr. They MUST BE copyright free images to be able to use for Wikipedia. Ask me for more details on this when you start your new article.
  • Third: No plagiarism! Other editors WILL detect this immediately.
  • Fourth: Google research yourself while you are waiting for an answer from IPL or LoC (which will take about a week).
  • Fifth: Reference each sentence (or at least each paragraph).
  • Sixth: Link article to and from your article. Click on "What links here" to see what other articles link to yours. Have a minimum of 3.
  • Seventh: Have at least 3 categories for your new article.
  • One more idea:
put /sandboxes/sandbox 1 on the top of your Talk Page. Then you can test and experiment all you want without doing any harm to any articles, including your own. Replace "sandbox 1" with the name of your proposed article. The same idea can apply to "sandbox 2" and "sandbox 3", etc. When you are done with the article of "sandbox 1" then drop it into a red link somewhere where it has the name of your article = a LIVE article.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 13:42, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Aubrey, I know you guys are pretty much done your article work, but a reviewer has a question about sourcing here: Template:Did you know nominations/Forest Idyl. Basically, the ref given for the fact that wife Emily's face was used for one of the copies doesn't back it up. Is this fact in one of the off-line refs?
