Conflicting article

Please see: Talk:Storm_train#Conflicting_article -- IRP (talk) 14:33, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

This is a matter that should be decided by people who have good understanding in the subject. That is, not me. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 16:09, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Have written draft. Need help formatting and uploading article.

In the Wikipedia entry on Shared Space, I am named as a proponent. The other four named proponents have individual Wikipedia entries. As a published writer with original views, I thought it would be appropriate for me to have my own Wiki entry. I note that we are advised against posting our own entries. Also I find the system difficult to navigate. So I wonder if you would execute an entry if I send you a draft? If possible please reply by email to mc@fitroads.org. URL is www.fitroads.org. Anticipating that you might be busy, I might post this on one or two other adopters' talk pages and go with the first who replies. Of course I will let the others know. With thanks, Martin Cassini - Seeplain —Preceding unsigned comment added by Seeplain (talkcontribs) 21:27, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much for asking.
I am replying by email. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 09:15, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Thansk for your work in nominating this, but it's clearly worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia. You are correct about the fixing it needs. Bearian (talk) 18:03, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi. It looks like we have different opinions on the notability of this album :-) I've redirected it to the artist again, but I've explained my reasoning on the talk page - you may want to have a look and tell me if/what you disagree with :-) CultureDrone (talk) 15:19, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Orphan seeking adoption :)

I would like to add some new pages to Wikipedia and want to make sure I do it correctly. Will these personal notes be tagged to those new pages? I hope not as I want them to be strictly professional. More informational then discussional/personal. If that makes sense.

Thanks :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Verandabeach (talkcontribs) 00:41, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi,
I shall gladly help you with anyting. Just ask.
Personal comments stay on talk pages. They are not supposed to go into the articles. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 14:33, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to Ml wiki!

Hi Amire, Nice to see you in ml wiki. just wanted to check if you are running a bot to do interwiki as you have mentioned in user page that you would be doing it.. Thanks, --Jyothis (talk) 04:12, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

No, it's not a bot. It's all manual. Unfortunately i don't know your language, but i make educated guesses. Please tell me if i do something stupid.
Thanks for the welcome. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 07:40, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Alerts

Is there a way of setting up an alert to your (Microsoft Outlook) Inbox when someone has left a comment on your talk page or a project you're working on?Seeplain (talk) 12:07, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

No, unfortunately it is not possible.
For people who edit Wikipedia a lot, like myself, the Wikipedia watchlist is the second inbox (if not the first). --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 14:30, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello. I seem to be doing all the wrong things. I don't understand any of this and it's gotten me into trouble. For example, the entry ghostgirl which I posted two images - book cover and poster - both fair use - has been deleted and I am trying desperately to get it back. I tagged the photos wrong and I'm devastated to find that it's no long there.

Also, I tried to add a photo - free use again - to tonya hurley, but I must have tagged that wrong too and now that's up for deletion. These pages have been up for years, so I'm not sure why they are being deleted now - just because I am new to this and trying to figure it out. How can I add my photos and save my pages?

Thank you for any help in advance! -t —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.191.119.41 (talk) 00:23, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the note on the PROD. I sent it to AFD to get consensus. I was hoping to find their tour info someone since it sounds like they might have had a decent tour but I found nothing. GtstrickyTalk or C 20:53, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Help On Content Rules

Hello Amire! I was creating an article and I wanted to upload an image. It is a screen shot that I got off the web. I took the screen shot myself with one of my programs that came with a digital camera that I have. If you have an email I can email it to you. Or you can just Email me.

I was also reading this article about content. I was unsure about some of the sections:

  • 6. Screenshots from software products: For critical commentary.
  • 7. Paintings and other works of visual art: For critical commentary, including images illustrative of a particular technique or school.
  • 8. Images with iconic status or historical importance: As subjects of commentary.

Could you explain those to me in more detail? You can either Email me or reply here as I am watching both you User and talk page. Thanks and Happy Editing ⊥m93 TALK 16:01, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

It basically means that you should only include images that have undisputed encyclopedic relevance to the article. I'm not a copyright lawyer, but you can find some at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content.
It doesn't matter which software did you use for taking the screenshot; what matters is the contents of the image. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 16:41, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
So it is probably ok if I uploaded the image? It was a screen shot of a video on youtube?
Also. I went to review my contributions, and I noticed a couple red vandalism things... What are those?
Thanks and Happy Editing ⊥m93 TALK 17:53, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
A screenshot of a video on YouTube is twice the trouble: You must be very sure that the contents of the video are compatible with the license of Wikipedia - the GFDL. If you are not sure, then they are almost certainly not compatible. Also, in many cases, YouTube is not the best source for video, as the videos there are often versions of content that is already available on television, DVD, cinema etc. (There are some videos that originally appear on YouTube, but they often don't satisfy the criteria of [[WP:N|notability.) If they are not compatible, then you must be very sure that this screenshot is relevant to the article and makes a significant contribution to it.
Do you want to tell me what video you are referring to?
I am not sure what are you referring to when you say "red vandalism things" - could you please explain that so i would be able to help you? --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 09:08, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

I will send you an email via the Special:EmailUser. I will send you a screen shot off of my computer about what I was talking about the red vandalism things. I will also send you a copy of the screen shot off the YouTube video. I can ensure the importance of the image. I will explain everything through the email. If you don't have an email set-up let me know and I will try something different. Thanks and Happy Editing ⊥m93 TALK 16:24, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Interlanguage Extension

I am sorry that I haven't replied to your previous message. I was/am intending to start a technical discussion on the Wikitech-l regarding the extension, and see if it would be technically possible to implement it without using disproportional resources. After that, I guess, a vote on Meta about whether it should be enabled. Nikola (talk) 18:39, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much!
I am eagerly anticipating it! --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 09:10, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Jive Aces deletion

A tag has been placed on Jive Aces, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect to a nonexistent page.

If you can fix this redirect to point to an existing Wikipedia page, please do so and remove the speedy deletion tag. However, please do not remove the speedy deletion tag unless you also fix the redirect. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. adoption request

Amir, I noticed on the adoption pages that you were open to requests. I have been on Wikipedia for a little while, not made much of it so far - a few failed attempts at article creation. I am finding getting to grips with the policies to be the biggest challenge. I'm looking for some ad hoc guidance and wise advise to give me more confidence with content creation. Please drop me a note if this would be of interest. As I have quite a few 'day job' commitments I'm not sure I'll be a particularly active Wikipedian (hopefully not too much of an 'adoption burden'), but I would certainly appreciate some mentoring to ensure the time I can spend is best utilised, and not a cause of frustration to over-worked editors :-). With thanks, Steve...

SteveNimmons (talk) 22:13, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Sure thing.
Drop me a line any time.
I see that you've been trying to write an article about Institute for the Management of Information Systems. As someone already pointed out, it's important that the article would make clear the notability of an organization by citing external sources. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 22:53, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

Rollback Request

Amire, I've been quite busy fighting vandalism and I was wondering if you could grant me rollback feature permissions. Thanks in advance! shirulashem (talk) 12:09, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Granted. I went over your edits and it appears that you have good understanding of reverting and know the difference between good faith and bad faith.
It's the first time i grant this permission and i hope that you won't disappoint me :)
Have fun! --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 12:22, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
toda rabba meod. i'll make you proud! shirulashem (talk) 12:25, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

accountcreator

hey amir- are you able to assign me accountcreator permissions also? i also requested access to autowikibrowser but they denied me because i have under 500 mainspace edits. :( shirulashem (talk) 19:18, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

You are challenging :)
I am not really familiar with this feature myself, but i am willing to learn. The page Wikipedia:Requests for permissions says that this permission should be granted to users who are active in the account request process. Are you? --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 08:38, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Amir- i'm not active in it because it looks like you need to be approved first by "an admin who trusts you." maybe i should apply through here? shirulashem (talk) 23:02, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
Yep, looks like the right thing to do. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 07:02, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

My Apologies

I am currently on a friend of mine's computer. My laptop that I edit on WP has messed up & I am currently working on getting it fixed. I will notify you when, I get it fixed. My apologies. Thanks and Happy Editing ⊥m93 TALK 19:08, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

"Filit" template on sk: wiki

Hi Amir, regarding the Filit template on Slovak wikipedia: now the issue is solved, the agreement was clarified, so the articles the argument was about can be edited in usual way... --Hefo (talk) 20:35, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the follow-up. I'm glad that you resolved it. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 07:05, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
