SVCE

Hey Amog, you are doing a fantastic job on the article, keep it up. As someoone whos new to wp you seem to be picking up stuff pretty quick. Also there is no need for you to indicate your edit on the talk page each time, i did it so that anyone who wanted to rewrite that section that i removed can do so. And you're efforts have inspired me to rummage through my collection of college photos and upload it. I'll do it in a day or two. Btw which year you in? -- PlaneMad|YakYak 19:23, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks! It's nice to be appreciated :D
I was trying to bring the article on par with the Princeton/MIT page.
Was hoping to get the article re-assessed to at least a GA-class rating.
Oh,and I'm a first year:)-Amog (talk) 15:46, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Oh thats brilliant, finally some new blood for wikipedia in chennai. And as a general rule, do try not to erase stuff from this page, archive them if necessary. And the standard convention is to reply on the other user's talk page, but dont worry about it :) -- PlaneMad|YakYak 18:53, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, there are a lot more pics though. I'm designing this years' college prospectus, so i had a free reign with my cam ;) How'd you get my name? -- PlaneMad|YakYak 14:18, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Ah ok. No pay, all i got is was a week's attendance for sitting in an ac lab with my laptop which is good enough for me :) plus it gives you design experience and finally some recognition from my department who had dismissed me as dirt -- PlaneMad|YakYak 14:48, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

yea, sems can be a bitch, but dont worry, it will be over before you know it. Yea, i vectorised the logo quite a long time back, i'll have it up. And i saw that comment, haha -- PlaneMad|YakYak 16:44, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

png is a better choice, adheres to the fair use resolution rationale -- PlaneMad|YakYak 16:51, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Ah ok, i was thinking you might have disabled transparency while saving to png. and no, you cant save into vector formats, not even in photoshop. as far as i know only paint shop pro supports both vector and raster, although im not too sure if the software is still in production-- PlaneMad|YakYak 18:39, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
brilliant work mate, but your work would be a lot easier if you directly worked on the vector in inkscape or illustrator. you should give it a shot. and thanks to your map, im trying to find out wtf jowar and bajra is -- PlaneMad|YakYak 18:53, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
Ah, and you could have accomplished that in 10 minutes if you knew inkscape ;) wait a minute, shouldnt you be studying for your sems? oh sorry, wait. i should be studying for my arrear -- PlaneMad|YakYak 19:03, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
err, no lad. arrears are papers in which have been unfairly failed -- PlaneMad|YakYak 19:13, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
i missed a couple? what are you saying, lad. dont scare me -- PlaneMad|YakYak 19:21, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Peer Review/Assessment

The two articles in question are up for assessment, of which I know nothing! I'll forward your request to someone on the assessment department.--RegentsPark (talk) 15:04, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

I dropped a note on User:kensplanet's talk page. Hopefully, it'll get cleared up.--RegentsPark (talk) 16:09, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

If you add it to the Peer Review page, I'll review it. Assessment results in a quality rating for the article (and I'm not familiar with that). You need to add the article here: Wikipedia:WikiProject_India/Peer_review. --RegentsPark (talk) 14:03, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Good luck with the article. You may want to look at Feature Article Criteria for tips on where the article should be headed in the long run. If you have any questions at all, drop a note in my talk page and I'll try to help. --RegentsPark (talk) 19:35, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Definitely in the right direction!--RegentsPark (talk) 20:10, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Ho ho ho, you definetely putting in a lot of effort into our college article, your spirit is quite admirable. I can help out with more college pics if i can overcome my vacation laziness. Lets try to get it to a GA status if not FA -- PlaneMad|YakYak 18:23, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Trust or SPIC

Hi Amog. I'm a bit confused about the financing of the college. The article says it was founded by a SV Educational Trust but also says that it established by SPIC. Are the two the same? You need to clarify that. Also, since there are no articles on the trust or SPIC in wikipedia (English), you should explain what these are. (Best to do that in the context of funding and financing.) --RegentsPark (talk) 02:08, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

If you're reasonably confident of the accuracy of your material, go ahead and include it. Accurate citations are good but it is better to have good information than no information. Having well-sourced material will help an article become a good or featured article but not every article has to be good or featured. Also, it is more important to have reliable sources when you make statements that can be challenged, that will probably not be the case here. I think you can make a nice article about the college, so don't give up. --RegentsPark (talk) 17:00, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Reporting vandals

Thank you for letting me know about the continued vandalism. The anonymous user has been blocked.

In future you can report vandals yourself on this page. Regards LittleOldMe (talk) 15:20, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Re:Black listing a spammer

I've warned the user again and will continue to monitor the contributions. If the behaviour continues I will block the user. As for blacklisting a site, I've never done it before, but according to Wikipedia Project Spam, you can request to have a site added to the blacklist. I believe you would make a report on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Spam. Hope this helps, ... discospinster talk 14:04, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, it's a bit over-complicated. I think I've figured it out: go to MediaWiki talk:Spam-blacklist and create a new entry using {{LinkSummary|domain}}, and provide examples of the spamming in different articles. ... discospinster talk 14:12, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

SVCE issue

i tried uploading the pics in wikipedia.. its saying copyright problem and if i don't give the correct copy rights the pics will get deleted in a week.. kindly look into it.. I don't understand what it means...—Preceding unsigned comment added by Kaushikmechano (talkcontribs)

i've added 2 pics. 1)swimming pool. 2) students at our campus.
the first pic looks good, the second one is a personal pic... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kaushikmechano (talkcontribs) 04:48, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
Dude I tried attaching the pics myself, I've made some changes.. I still feel some alignments are to be done to the pic and the content.I didn't find any space to attach the 2nd pic(students at our campus).. If u find that pic good.. U can attach it too.. I've got some more pics of our college.. especially the marine block, conference halls, etc.. I'll upload it if needed...kaushik
I do have pictures of our culturals, auto expo, symposiums and conferences. SVCE is not known for any of these though. our culturals , sympo sucks big time. U r just into first year, but u could very well change the tradition. I'll try to get more info on the mgmt stuff.Kaushik

Yeah thats rite.. keep up the good work.. I'll try to contribute as much as i can.. Kaushik —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kaushikmechano (talkcontribs) 03:27, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

oh ya.. All the best for your exams, do well... (Kaushikmechano (talk) 08:24, 13 May 2008 (UTC))

Vandalism cleanup

Don't be so quick on the warn trigger... Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 08:28, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Heh, no problem. Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 08:29, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
I figured it was one of those pesky scripts, but I couldn't figure out which one. Again, no harm done. Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 08:33, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

editing Allen Morris page

I have added many links to the bottom of the page to give it credibility.I have an issue with the "nuetrality" issues that are arising from me posting this bio.Yes, I work for the company. However, my opinion is not interjected at any time in the article.I have simply provided facts about Allen Morris and his career.Should I need to revise certain aspects to adhere to Wikipedia standards, or involve editing from an 'outside' source, I am more than happy to. I believe that deleting the article all together is extreme as this article is not blatant advertising. I am open to editing critiques and constructive criticism.I am a new Wikipedia user, this is the first article I have posted, and so am just learning the language of the Wikipedia culture. As with many biographies, a person's comendable attributes and achievements are recorded.I simply doing just this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Amco121 (talkcontribs) 17:01, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Amco121 (talkcontribs) 17:18, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Amog, I really cannot thank you enough for helping me with this. The page look 100 times better than when I initially posted it. This whole process is a bit intimidating and out of my normal sphere of things, really appreciate your efforts. --Amco121 (talk) 17:41, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Amog - sorry about the spellcheck & your name.

I saw that some of the organizations in my article are being disputed as not having sources. Would you like for me to paste links verifying the credibility of these organizations?

Also, can I change the entry name of "allen morris" to "W. Allen Morris" and have a link that can redirect people who type "Allen Morris" to the "W. Allen Morris" site?

Thanks again for all your help.--Amco121 (talk) 20:10, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion

Regarding the page Chakolath Ramachandran, which you tagged for speedy deletion on the basis of the author of the only substantial content has requested deletion in good faith, either explicitly or by blanking the page, I wanted you to know that I have removed the speedy deletion tag. This page does not qualify for speedy deletion under that criterion because there are non-trivial contributions from other users. If you still want the page to be deleted, please re-tag it under a CSD criterion that applies, consider redirecting the article, or use the proposed deletion or the articles for deletion processes. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 09:49, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi,you removed a speedy tag i placed on an article, which i had tagged as G7,stating that I was not the only author/contributor.I assure you that I am the only contributor. If you look at the history, you'll find that all major edits are by me and my dynamic IP's and the other changes are all trivialvandalism. Please remove the article. - Amog |Talk 10:01, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Please note the following changes which were not made by you. Respectfully, I have no proof that the IPs are you.
However notwithstanding the above I may delete the page if you can explain satisfactorily why you want it deleted, bearing in mind that revocation of GFDL is not permitted. Stifle (talk) 10:09, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I can prove that those are my IP's.If you'd look here you'd find one of my first comments on Wikipedia, made in august last year. That was an unsigned comment, and is made from the same IP as edit #3.But if you'd look at the contributions of the first IP,you'll find that I attempted to blank/delete the page before all that contribution. That is my only proof,as i cant really trace dynamic IP's. As for edit #2,if you'd look closely,it is a trivial edit. - Amog |Talk 10:19, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I've said I'm willing to overlook that, but why do you want the page deleted? Stifle (talk) 10:21, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, there are a couple of reasons. One of them could be notability.Another is that there is a COI,as i am the man's grandson.(You can see that from this bit of vandalism by a cousin of mine),and there was a definite NPOV,as I learnt when I got a little more experienced as an editor.I guess there may be other reasons, but these are majors. - Amog |Talk 10:30, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps we should let the community decide by way of an AFD? Stifle (talk) 10:31, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Maybe, but can't you delete it under G7? I did prove that mine were the major edits. - Amog |Talk 10:33, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
G7 isn't really used for articles that have been around that long. It's generally when someone realizes they've made a mistake in creating an article (or other page) and want to spare everyone the process. Stifle (talk) 10:35, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
All right.Make an AfD then.What exactly should i do? - Amog |Talk 10:37, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
I've made an AFD, you'll find it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chakolath Ramachandran. You can post there saying why you think the page should be deleted. Stifle (talk) 10:38, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Amog. Just wondering why you want this deleted (before I comment on the deletion page). Are you concerned that someone will repeatedly vandalize the page? If you could let me know your thoughts, that would be helpful. Thanks! --Regents Park (Feed my swans) 20:23, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

OK. I'll take your word on this. I guess, if the notability is there, someone else will create an article sooner or later. Interestingly though, assuming the facts are real, he seems more interesting (and notable) than the Allen Morris you're pushing! --Regents Park (Feed my swans) 10:53, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

maps

cool stuff there, you seem to be learning quite fast. The animation is awesome and something that can go into WP:FPC if you can make some improvements. You could have a timeline showing the date of progress and possibly have even the contours move. you should even add a legend for those colors -- PlaneMad|YakYak 09:19, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

and arrears are real shitty business, avoid at all costs -- PlaneMad|YakYak 09:20, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Amog, thats a really good effort on the animation, but it loses on the visual appeal factor. there are quite a few changes i could suggest, like using the different shades of blue for the progress and a very simple progress indicator. and a resolution like 800x1000 should be enough since its not going to be printed. try not be too flashy, focus on conveying maximum information with the least deatils. ah you are inspiring me to make maps, unfortunately im stretched for time :( -- PlaneMad|YakYak 14:49, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
ah, maps can get quite complicated with all that data, thats why you try to follow the kiss approach. i made a quick graphic that you could draw inspiration from. But then id recommend that you actually put one up for fpc and what people say, the comments are always quite hard, but its a great way to learn and improve. I myself am wondering why i never nominated my maps as fpc -- PlaneMad|YakYak 19:27, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
oh yeah, and stick to the basic fonts like arial, verdana, tahoma for non serifs and times, georgia for serifs. they are widely used for a reason - they have good readability. And keep your color palette to a minimum. use same shades for similiar data, pastel colors are always pleasing to the eye. oh, and im short on time cause i've taken up a summer job, doing something productive for once in my life -- PlaneMad|YakYak 19:33, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
err, any more "studies" is stricly out of the question. im thinking of exploring something which has more of learning invlovled. And yea, sans is always preferred. And dont limit yourself to the existing color schemes, never be scared to experiment, who knows, you might end up with something that looks much better -- PlaneMad|YakYak 18:34, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
