Mobile citation

[edit]

When I edited Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District (opera), I wanted to add a citation to the text. However, I couldn't auto-generate one because I was on mobile, so I had to manually write one. I struggled with it and screwed up.

Amoymonarch (talk) 22:27, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. The proper sequence of tags is <ref>...</ref>. Primefac (talk) 22:42, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I have got to remember this because I edit on mobile frequently. Amoymonarch (talk) 00:00, 25 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why am I blocked??

Request reason:

Just now, Ponyo, blocked me. He did not provide a reason, however, when I saw my user page, it said that I might be an alternate account, or "sockpuppet", of Johnny Shiz.

I checked Johnny Shiz's contributions, and it seems that he is blocked for disruptive editing. I don't know how Ponyo came to the conclusion that I am the same person as Johnny Shiz, but I can say that that is not true. I do not disruptively edit Wikipedia. I am here only to expand the website in a constructive manner. Thus, I feel that my block is incorrect, and it should be lifted.

I am confused at this. Are you going to perform a sockpuppet investigation on me? What exactly is CheckUser? It would be very nice if someone could help me understand...

Decline reason:

I would also like to note that I got impersonated by an account called Amoymonarch ii. This user appeared to disruptively edit and gave me a bad image, and was also blocked around the same time as me. This user is tagged as a suspected sockpuppet as Johnny Shiz too. I wonder if any confusion occurred... I am not Amoymonarch ii, that's for sure. Amoymonarch (talk) 19:27, 27 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

So Checkuser says that I am actually Johnny Shiz, apparently? I checked Johnny Shiz's sockpuppet investigation page and didn't see any new investigations. Don't you need to discuss there? Also, it's worth mentioning that I have a friend who edits Wikipedia, who likes editing about airplanes and airports. I forget his usernamr. A while later, he told me that he got blocked. In Johnny Shiz's contributions page, I don't see anything about airplanes. But then again, I read that he has quite a few sockpuppet accounts. My friend lives near me. From what I know, Checkuser works by checking if the IP addresses of the accounts come from the same location. How common are false positives, etc. for Checkuser? In addition, can you please provide a more detailed explanation as to why you think I'm a sockpuppet of Johnny Shiz, beyond "I used Checkuser and Johnny Shiz came up". On the Checkuser page, it says that accusations of sockpuppetry cannot be made solely using Checkuser. To quote the page: "An editing pattern match is the important thing; the IP match is really just extra evidence (or not)." Another thing I do not understand is the fact that Amoymonarch ii is listed as a sockpuppet too. If Checkuser is right and I am Johnny Shiz, that means that I should be Amoymonarch ii. Amoymonarch ii is another person pretending to be me, apparently trying to get me blocked, and it worked. Clearly I am not Amoymonarch ii, please explain this. If you keep insisting that I'm Johnny Shiz, I can accept being blocked. I don't mind. I have a feeling I will be busy with other projects outside of Wikipedia later on, so I doubt I'll have the time to edit often anyway. Amoymonarch (talk) 00:59, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Note to reviewing admin: This is as unambiguous a checkuser result as I have seen. This account edited at 11:44; at 11:51 logged out and proceeded to vandalize his own talk page; then at 11:56 created the Amoymanarchii account and vandalized with that. They did the same thing with the account User:ShangKing, without the additional lols of the IP vandalism: creating Sh2ngKing and then claiming it as an imposter. But this edit puts a lie to that. Good faith was assumed with the previous account, but when the exact same thing happens on another account, the good faith is sorely tested. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆 𝄐𝄇 13:44, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jpgordon: @Yamla: The vandalism occurred shortly after I logged out. My friend thought it would be funny to vandalize Wikipedia, so he tried to pretend to be me. He used the same device I logged out from. About ShangKing, a vandal (a different person) gained access to my account. After this, I created a new account, Sh2ngKing. However, before I could perform any useful edits with it, it got compromised again. I then fixed the hacking issue, after which I created Amoymonarch. Amoymonarch ii and Amoymonarch are different than Sh2ngKing and ShangKing in that Amoymonarch ii was not created by me, but Sh2ngKing was. Sh2ngKing was a genuine attempt to start afresh after ShangKing got compromised (albeit unsuccessful), while Amoymonarch ii was my friend being a troll. You are mistaken in the fact that these two situations are identical.
Also, when does Johnny Shiz come into play? I have never heard the name prior to this incident. From what I heard, he is a sockpuppet vandal. Do you happen to know any blocked users coming from New Jersey who edit about airplanes and airports? (I was on vacation in New Jersey when the whole incident occurred.) As above, besides Checkuser, what makes you think that I am him?
I hope justice can be served soon, because I find the whole ordeal unfair. I really want to return to Wikipedia editing. Amoymonarch (talk) 15:12, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Long story short: I was ShangKing, I was Sh2ngKing, I am Amoymonarch, I am not Amoymonarch ii, and I am not Johnny Shiz. Got it?
Given the blatantly obvious technical evidence of socking I don't believe a single word of your defense above. Even if it were true, you appear completely incapable of maintaining a secure account with repeated claims of being hacked and compromised by vandals and friends alike. Competence is required to edit here.--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 22:11, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As explained above, your claims of innocence are extremely implausible, you way want to take the standard offer if you want to get unblocked. Max Semenik (talk) 05:45, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

My reply

[edit]

By "socking" are you referring to Amoymonarch ii or Johnny Shiz? I know the owner of the Amoymonarch ii account in real life, but the name "Johnny Shiz" is completely alien to me. I asked all my fellow Wikipedia friends about this, they never heard of him.

Again, do you happen to know any blocked users coming from New Jersey who edit about airplanes and airports?

@MaxSem: About the standard offer request, is it okay to use WP:CLEANSTART on a completely new account? One of my good Wikipedia editor friends told me about this. That way, by 6 months, the hackers and vandals probably would have gave up, and even if they don't they would have to search for my new username, and so on.

Am I allowed to edit on other Wikimedia projects, such as Wiktionary? Or does the block apply to all of Wikimedia? To quote the Standard Offer page, "Banned users seeking a return are well-advised to make significant and useful contributions to other WMF projects prior to requesting a return to English Wikipedia per this 'offer'. Many unban requests have been declined due to the banned user simply waiting the six months out, without making any contributions to other projects." That actually works out for me, because it can help me get better at English. Mandarin Chinese is my first language. Well as you can see, my English is already very good, so yeah!

By the way this is not an unblock request. I agree to remain blocked until six months later (1/31). The whole situation confuses me a lot, and I thank the admins for helping me resolve myself from the sticky situation. I'll obey whatever they have to say about me. Amoymonarch (talk) 10:39, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The data linking your account to that of User:Jonnhy Shiz is private checkuser data. Such data cannot be revealed on Wikipedia, other than to say that a connection exists.
As a blocked user, you are not eligible for a clean start. If you take the standard offer, you will need to refrain from editing the English version of Wikipedia for a minimum of six months, then request unblocking on this page. You may edit other Wikimedia projects assuming that you are not also blocked on them. Yunshui  15:07, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have an important confession to make

[edit]

Recently, an admin named Ponyo blocked this account as a sockpuppet of User:Johnny Shiz. I tried getting unblocked here but my requests were denied. As a result, I feel it is appropriate to come clean here.

Am I Johnny Shiz? The short answer is yes. I have indeed performed edits on that account. But it's more complicated than that. The truth is, Johnny Shiz is owned by four people. First, in 2016, an 11-year old named Johnny decided to create this account with the sole purpose of vandalizing Wikipedia. At first he did it solo, then he got three other friends, including me, to help out. When the account got blocked, we created three new accounts together, with the same intent. They were User:Johnny Shiz 2, User:Shizzlecraft1, and User talk:WikiCraftW. They also got blocked. That was when we learned what "sockpuppetry" means.

After this, my friends kind of each went our separate ways, creating new accounts and getting them blocked. I knew better and decided to quit Wikipedia. But two months ago, I wanted a change in heart. I went on the original Johnny Shiz account and attempted an unblock, which was unsuccessful. Fast forward to about a month ago, I thought it was a good idea to return. I chose a new username: User:ShangKing. I exclusively performed "good" edits to avoid the connotation. However, that account got compromised, not by one of the three friends. Whoever it was, that person ruined my user page and my talk page. I created a new account immediately called User talk:Sh2ngKing. Before I could perform any edits there, it got compromised too. I then resolved the security issue and created Amoymonarch.

Let's do a very quick recap. To keep things straight I'll number each of the people. #1 is the original Johnny. #2 is Johnny's best friend, who along with Johnny continued to vandalize after I left. #3 is a nicer guy. After doing what his friends were doing for about a year, he did a similar thing to what I did. Except he got blocked or something. I forget. You'll see. His English is terrible (no offense). Finally, #4 is me. My English also used to be as terrible as #3's, but since then I've greatly improved. Got it?

On Amoymonarch, I performed my usual routine of editing. This kept up until one of my friends decided to be funny. #2 impersonated me on a separate account called User:Amoymonarch ii. He ruined my reputation, performing disruptive edits in a similar manner to the unknown hacker. It ended up that both of the accounts got blocked and tagged as sockpuppets of Johnny Shiz. I tried once again to unblock myself here, to no avail. Meanwhile, #2 made humorous unblock request reasons such as "Spicy cuttlefish no no no", which got his talk page access revoked.

And that's where my story ends. Please note that I am not trying to win acceptance or get unblocked, quite the opposite actually. I am planning to move on from Wikipedia to bigger projects in real life. Just as well, since my IP address is blocked for a very long time. From now on, I will never edit Wikipedia again. My friends have agreed to do the same. Admins, please transclude a copy of this confession to the main Johnny Shiz talk page. After what we've done, none of us deserve to click that edit button anymore. It's just not right. Not only have we disruptively edited, vandalized, sockpuppeted, and abused our talk pages, we have also violated WP:NOSHARING. We just want to be in the green zone for once, and the only way we we can do this is by agreeing to the terms of the block. I hope you understand.

Below is a list of accounts used by any of us (alphabetical order). This list is as comprehensive as we can get, so enjoy:

I appreciate your support. All four of us would like to say sorry for all the trouble. Goodbye from Wikipedia forever. Amoymonarch (talk) 20:43, 2 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No admin action required; closing template. Yunshui  14:59, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes admin action required, you need to block all listed accounts, tag them as socks, etc. Amoymonarch (talk) 20:56, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No. Talk page access revoked. You can use WP:UTRS to request an unblock of your original account if you can figure out a way to abide by the standard offer. Given your continued socking I'm not holding my breath.--Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 21:01, 3 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
