Great work so far! I was going to fly by for a copyedit, but I've got a better idea. I've got a bunch of books that cover Lang (and thus, to some degree, M) in some detail. Tell me where--what issue, what topic--you're feeling the article could most use some new juice in and I'll hit my library.—DCGeist 10:59, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In re M. Sounds good. It look like I won't have the chance till Monday, but I'll be happy to sit down then and see if I can find the info you specify. In re B movie: You're undoubtedly right. I've been putting it off just cause I know it's going to be hard work boiling the main article down to a satisfactory summary. I'm pretty clear on what's most crucial early and late, but whenever you have the chance to look over the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, I'd love to hear what you think is the crucial meat that needs to stay in the main article and what's the gravy that can be reserved for the sub. Best, Dan—DCGeist 22:19, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I've got the Lang books stacked beside the computer now. My Wikitime the last few days has been spent shepherding Mutual Broadcasting System through FAC. The last sticking point is the article's organization. I went with my usual chronological approach, with headered subsections for specific consideration of programming during each decade of the network's prime. A couple readers weighed in preferring a scheme where the discussions of the business history and the programming are seperated into different sections. If you have the time, would you mind taking a look at it and then going to Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Mutual Broadcasting System to say which system you think would be superior in this case? Obviously, I went with the approach that struck me as more informative, but I'm happy to follow the consensus, whichever way it points. Thanks much. And I am about to move in on Fritz. Image:M poster.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:M poster.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok 22:25, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi... please do not remove the replaceable fair use tag from an image. It needs to stay until an admin looks at it. If you dispute that it's replaceable, by all means add the disputed tag. Thanks! —Chowbok 04:13, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:ForWhatItsWorth.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:ForWhatItsWorth.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Article speedy deleted[edit]

I have put the article deleted here User:Andman8/deleted_article for you. I could not see that it even tried to qualify for notability. WP:CSD gives the rules when it can be speedy deleted in these circumstance... this one was A7 "Unremarkable people, groups, companies and web content. An article about a real person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content that does not assert the importance or significance of its subject." --BozMo talk 18:26, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:N might help. Most of your examples are not notable I agree. If someone else puts a speedy delete tag on them and I'm the admin reviewing the tags I will probably delete them. In practice things have tightened up in the last year and brand new articles get looked at much more closely. Personally I don't like speedy delete (someone did it to a half written article I'd written on The Way the World is once and it really annoyed me. However when the people who tag put a "admin backlog" sign up I go and review them. I am busy tonight but I don't mind trying to help and establish notability one way or another some time. --BozMo talk 22:00, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And I have retagged it as spam, which it remains no matter what part of Wikipedia is resides in. --Calton | Talk 14:30, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Entertainers in the 2000s, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Yes I spent way too much time editing wikipedia. I'll take a week off after that work!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 13:57, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is this supposed to be sarcastic? "Wow I'm sure glad I spent my time in front of a computer screen instead of living life". If you would really like to know I am encountering some difficulties at this moment in time where it is a relief to get away from my family and try to forget my current situation. It helps me take my mind off things, so please don't attack me again. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 14:06, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey as you said lifes too short so of course I of course I'm not mad at you. Why would I be? Its just I really don't think life is as wonderful as you think! I think my editing for wikipedia has been fuelled by enthusiasm for the project. And I don't consider it a total waste of time - not only have many people expressed their gratuity for my work but I beleive the project is progressing very well as is something worthwhile. Beleive it or not I used to hate computers and it is only since I got the Internet I have become addicted! I guess maybe I should spend less time on it! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "I've been expecting you" 21:39, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Centiare[edit]

Why do you keep posting your website to users even after your article was put up for deletion? Seems like passive behavior to me. Wikidan829 03:07, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe when you're out of high school, you'll realize that not all things boil down to money. Wikipedia is our baby, it is non-profit, and we are extremely proud of the work we do on it. I view it more as a hobby than anything. Working at it occasionally during downtime at my real job. But that doesn't distract me from the fact that you are providing links to your site in a passive, seemingly innocent fashion to draw people away from Wikipedia. Childish "buddy buddy" talk won't work here. Please stop. Wikidan829 16:56, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I concur with the above. The cute trick of slipping in the URL into the header of your message to me, for example. You'll have to do a better job of SEO if you don't want to be caught.

I'm not going to be nearly as crass as to make the centiare page again and have it nominated for deletion which starts everyone off on a negative note.

The alexa ranking. Centiare ranks number 77,737 over the last three months and was 35,000 yesterday.

Raw Google/Alexa numbers mean bupkis, especially as they are manipulable (Hell, there's an entire industry -- SEO] -- built around trying to pump up such numbers, not to mention that that's a pretty bad Alexa rating to begin with.

Most wikis on wikipedia (the ones linkable through List of Wikis are in the several hundred thousands.''

So?

WP:WEB#Criteria. Centiare has been featured on a nationwide television station [1]. Centiare was mentioned in the washington Post [2].

Multiple, non-trivial media coverage is merely the minimum requirement for consideration -- and you haven't even hit the "non-trivial" threshold.

The Essjay Controversy was written extensively on though the event was negative for wikipedia. Even though centiare started with an anti-wiki sentiment in the wikipedian community that should not stop inclusion.

That's an odd combination of WP:OTHERCRAPEXISTS and basic incoherence, so I have no idea what exactly I'm supposed to respond to.

After I tweak my argument here I will post it elsewhere so please nicely attack the site so I can build a better defense

In other words, you've already decided that you're going to put up an article on the thing and you're merely fishing for excuses that would allow you to do so and, so it appears so you can put more money in your own pocket. So spamming other users and using your own User Page for spamming wasn't enough for you? I'd say that unless you're cruising for a permablock that you cease the spamming/personal enrichment campaign. --Calton | Talk 00:02, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to impart common sense into the clueless is a tough job, one which you do particularly well.

To me, the award to the right is the only one that really counts, since what I take pride in is clean-up duty, mopping up after the dishonest, incompetent, and fanatical, not coddling spammers. Common sense, on the other hand, is pretty much irrelevant, though, for someone who's let his greed overwhelm his common sense. I certainly can't help someone who insists on hanging a great big "KICK ME" sign on himself. --Calton | Talk 00:30, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've decided not to let bygones be bygones as I feel you are a hinderance to wikipedia as a whole

Actually, it's pretty clear that what I am is a hindrance to you stuffing your wallet, but I think that'll be obvious to even the most casual reader. You are posting while sober, right? --Calton | Talk 04:06, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I thought this was a done issue, not sure how I ended up back here. I don't think you should be accusing Calton of incivility just because he also happens to disagree with your spamming. Wikidan829 04:17, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
He's perfectly in the clear for disagreeing with me however I am just one in a long line he has "disagreeed" with in an extremely condescending and generally mean way. By acting this way he provokes trolls and spammers even more. Andman8 05:10, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Aneveningwithkevinsmith2.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 12:39, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Annadavid.png[edit]

I have tagged Image:Annadavid.png as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. Thank you. MER-C 12:42, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Andrew Lande was deleted through proposed deletion. That's the process whereby if the proposed deletion tag sits on the article for a specified period of time, it gets deleted. Anyone can contest it by removing the tag. If it's deleted and someone contests it then, a reasonable request by an editor will restore it. Orphaned non-free image (Image:MagicCarpetRide.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:MagicCarpetRide.jpg. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 02:17, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Monkey's with typewriters, by Reywas92 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Monkey's with typewriters is a redirect page resulting from an implausible typo (CSD R3).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Monkey's with typewriters, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it did not nominate Monkey's with typewriters itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 18:40, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Andrew Lande[edit]

I'll restore it and move it into your userspace. When you're done with it, tag it with {{db-userreq}} and it can be re-deleted. Waltontalk 16:33, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done. It's at User:Andman8/Andrew Lande. Waltontalk 16:35, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:CVU status[edit]

The Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit project is under consideration to be moved to {{inactive}} and/or {{historical}} status. Another proposal is to delete or redirect the project. You have been identified as a project member and your input as to this matter would be welcomed at WT:CVU#Inactive.3F and at the deletion debate. Thank you! Hey fellow Wikipedian! Your username is listed on the WikiProject Films participants list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active on the project. If you still consider yourself an active WP:FILM editor, please add your name to the Active Members list. You may also wish to add {{User WikiProject Films}} to your userpage, if you haven't done so already. We also have several task forces that you may be interested in joining as well.

Also, elections for Project Coordinators are currently in sign-up phase. If you would be interested in running, or would like to ask questions of the candidates, please take a look. You can see more information on the positions at Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Coordinators. Thanks and happy editing!

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Simpsons on pulp.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Simpsons on pulp.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:41, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bitch on a chain redirect[edit]

IMO my Google search doesn't lead me to call this an Internet meme and the language will be seen by some as "3. The redirect is offensive...". If you have sources to support "Bitch on a chain" as an Internet meme then consider adding them to forestall a delete request. – Conrad T. Pino 23:02, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
