Jefferson Avenue-Huron River and Harbin Drive-Silver Creek Canal Bridges

I created the article Jefferson Avenue-Huron River and Harbin Drive-Silver Creek Canal Bridges earlier today. I noticed one of the images you used for the NRHP listing in Wayne County article, and I included that in the article's infobox. Later on, I realized you had a draft of the article in your sandbox. Your photos of the bridges are very nice (as well as the ones in Grosse Ile). I discovered those after I already uploaded some of my own. The timely creation of the article and your sandbox draft are mere coincidences, and my intentions were not to impede on your work. While the article is already up, feel free to make some changes or additions to the article as you see fit. Thank you. — №tǒŖïøŭş4lĭfė 20:44, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

NRHP infobox details

I've noticed you have created a good number of NRHP articles in Michigan. Your work is very good. There's one thing that I want to bring to your attention for consideration when making future articles (as well as if you'd be willing to touch-up the ones you've already made). Following in line with what users have been doing with certain New Jersey and California NRHP articles, I think it would be interesting to begin recognizing listings that are also designated as Michigan Historic Sites on the state level. The only thing that needs to be done is adding the following parameters to the bottom of the NRHP infobox in each article:

 | designated_other1_name = Michigan State Historic Site
 | designated_other1_abbr = MSHS
 | designated_other1_link = Michigan State Historic Preservation Office
 | designated_other1_date = ‡
 | designated_other1_num_position = bottom
 | designated_other1_color = CornflowerBlue

‡ Some Michigan Historic Sites don't list when they were included on the state register, which I believe means that it was listed on the same date on the state register as it was on the national register. If no date is given, simply remove this line. Otherwise, insert the date with the applicable source; all Michigan Historic Sites are listed here, and I'm sure you're familiar with that database (even though it says they haven't yet electronically updated much of their records after 2003). Also, the CornflowerBlue color is one of the more readable darker blues, which I believe better fits the colors of Michigan.

In addition to the infobox information, a slight mention of its inclusion on the Michigan register can be made in the lead section of each article. To see what the infobox looks like, as well as an example of the lead section, I refer you to the Raisin Valley Friends Meetinghouse article. I've made these additions to NRHP listings in both Lenawee and Monroe counties. Not every NRHP listing is also a designated Michigan Historic Site (MHS) and vice versa, and I believe distinguishing the two can open the door for the creation of many more articles relating to historic sites that are not NRHP (although the same infobox can still be used, see Skull Cave (Mackinac Island) for a MHS that is not a NRHP). If you agree with this, go ahead and input the extra information.

Also, one last note, which I believe makes the infoboxes look aesthetically better. For some reason, the infobox isn't wide enough to accommodate the coordinates without pushing it down into a second line, which I think looks tacky and unorganized. By expanding the image in an infobox by a mere 8px, the box widens ever so slightly to allow the coordinates to appear on one line. To make that change, input the following in the infobox underneath the image line (default image size is 250px):

 | image_size = 258

The Raisin Valley Friends Meetinghouse article illustrates that adjustment as well, and the widening of the infobox by only 8px isn't even noticeable. However, the widening of the infobox doesn't work in all cases and still puts the coordinates on both lines. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to let me know. — №tǒŖïøŭş4lĭfė 07:03, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

I also created the Category:Michigan State Historic Sites to be included in qualifying articles, and I plan to go through applicable articles and categorize them. Thank you for your support. — №tǒŖïøŭş4lĭfė 02:04, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Country Tea House

It always seems that I'm amazed by your work, mostly the really big time-consuming stuff you do, e.g. Detroit. But I have to say, even if you consider it small, I'm amazed by File:CountryTeaRoomEastDundeeIL.jpg. A long time ago I lived near Dundee, and last winter I visited the area, trying to get a few NRHP snapshots. I spent parts of 3 days trying to find the #$^@#$%^^& teahouse, but couldn't find it. Then of course you show up with a wonderful photograph. Maybe you could tell me, what was I missing? Are the coords correct in the table? Is it even on Rt. 25? In any case congrats. Smallbones (talk) 00:01, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the info. I obviously blanked out on the Milk Pail, probably because it's had that name for at least 40 years, and maybe cause I was concentrating on the address given which, if it existed, would be way further north. I need to try that research stuff! ;-) I changed the coords 20 minutes south to match Google Maps. Next time you go to Cville, you might stop by Aurora, which looks to have a dozen non-photographed sites within a small distance. Thanks again. Smallbones (talk) 03:29, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Great! Thanks. Lava Lamp looks even better than I remembered it. You also got great weather by the look of the sky on most of the pix. Milk Pail and Detroit

Sorry, it was User:Teemu08 who wrote the Milk Pail Restaurant article, not me. But the pix look good there. I was wondering what it would take to make List of National Historic Landmarks in Philadelphia a featured list (lots, but I think it is doable). So I looked for exemplars of featured lists of buildings - first stop Detroit. I was very surprised to see that Detroit was not a featured list. May I ask why not? It seems to have all the requisites and compares favorably to the others I checked - I believe they were List of NHLs in Alabama and Indiana, List of Chicago Landmarks. The only answer I could puzzle out is that you didn't think it was important to go through the process. All the best. Smallbones (talk) 03:19, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Great photos in the UP

I see that you were quicker than me with uploading a bunch of historic images in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan! Actually your photos probably turned out better than mine as I photographed as I was riding through instead of stopping (in most cases). I took a vacation to Calumet and took some photos in Crystal Falls on the way up north. There are many dozens of photos for communities on the route, so my efforts were worth it. Michigan State Historic Sites

Hi, Andrew Jameson, I have recently finished emptying out Category:NRHP infobox needing cleanup and have noticed that you (and others) have added a few NRHP infoboxes to Michigan State Historic Site articles. Use of the NRHP infobox is limited to sites that are actually on the National Register, but I see you're in kind of a conundrum here as there is nowhere else really to turn. {{Infobox Historic Site}} doesn't support Michigan sites yet because the register doesn't pass through its requirements, but I've begun trying to remedy the situation (because of OCD and wanting to empty that category haha). I've begun a small list at User:Dudemanfellabra/Sandbox of the first 20 sites listed at the MSHDA database (which is wayyyy too clunky and needs an update IMO, but I digress). I was wondering if you'd like to help out with finishing the list and moving it into mainspace. Once this list is in place, I'm pretty sure the folks over at WP:HSITES (of which I am a member) will be fine with adding support for the Michigan register.

Btw, if you know of a better place than this where I can get information about Michigan sites, it would be nice of you to point it out haha. Currently I can only copy/paste 10 listings at a time, and the formatting is horrible, so I imagine this list will take an extended amount of time to complete. Any help would be appreciated, though. Thanks!--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 20:02, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Nice job finishing Wayne County. That's an entire list-article in itself haha.. I've been caught up with some other things lately, but I'll be helping more really soon. Thanks again!--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 05:16, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
Hi, Andrew, I don't know if you've noticed that I've taken a few counties out and made them into their own articles (e.g. Wayne and Calhoun). While I worked primarily on the Calhoun County list, I must give you credit for the Wayne County one. I do have one question, though. Up until now (I'm currently working on Emmet County), I haven't encountered any sites that were also National Historic Landmarks. The first site in the Emmet County list is the Bay View Association, an NHL district. Because of this, I added extra text to the lead of the list article saying that any items marked with a double dagger (‡) were designated NHLs. I was wondering if you had come across any like this in Wayne or Washtenaw counties. If you have, could you please mark them with double daggers instead of single ones? Sorry I didn't think of NHLs before; I'm surprised it took me that long to come across one! I see that you haven't really worked on the list in a while, and I was wondering if I lost a working buddy haha. If you've lost interest in it, that's fine. I'm sure I can finish it out/check those counties on my own, but having the help was kind of refreshing. Thanks for everything you've done!--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 17:58, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for adding all those pictures to the Macomb County NRHP list! I saw where you added several pictures to the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House, which is on my watchlist and followed the rabbit hole to that county list. If you're looking for more sites to photograph in that county (and the rest of the state), you could take a look at the list of Michigan State Historic Sites in Macomb County, Michigan, which I created a while back from that userspace list that you were helping me with early on. I've copied your new pictures into this list as well, but it's still pretty bare. I'm almost finished with the full state list, but some counties have already been created (linked in the navbox at the bottom of the page) to keep my userspace list small. In a few weeks, there may be many more places on here that you can research, explore, and photograph. Thanks again!--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 21:53, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Article review request

Hello,

I'm not entirely sure how/what to do in these matters so I figured I'd just ask a "reviewer" with a lot of experience creating/contributing to bios. There's a bio Gene Amondson that was given "Good Article" status by a member User:Xtzou found to be sock puppet. Now, I could be wrong but the article itself doesn't seem to be worth GA status and I mentioned this on the article's talk page. Naturally the article's "owner" William S. Saturn (being sarcastic) deleted my post... I fixed that. Anyway this guy User:William S. Saturn lists as his fellow collaborators several sock puppets (including Xtzou) which raises a red-flag in my book. I've been on Wiki a while but I'm better at simple edits than opening up new pages etc and I don't trust myself to not screw up getting that article checked out to determine if it really is GA. My question is, could you please take a look and see if it is GA or not. The article isn't on the most important person but I can't abide by people taking ownership of an article and promoting their own causes with greatly apparent (at least to me) bias. Hope I'm not wasting your time. Thanks, Coinmanj (talk) 17:00, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Requesting Permission For Use Of One Of Your Photographs

Dear Mr. Jameson, I am working on a non-profit project for the congregation of Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Episcopal Diocese of West Missouri, located in Kansas City, Missouri. Grace Clara Hecker (1879-1958), the daughter of Colonel Frank J. Hecker (1846-1927), married Gordon Taylor Beaham (1877-1951) of Kansas City, Missouri. Beaham's family owned then, and still owns, Faultless Starch and Bon Ami. In 1951, Gordon and Grace, along with another Beaham sibling, gave the Bishop's Throne, or Cathedra, in Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral in memory of a third Beaham sibling who died in 1950. I mentioned the wonderful mansion of Colonel Hecker before I knew you had taken a photograph of it. I would very much like to use your photograph in our book, but I'm not clear on whether the licensing agreement you provided covers using your photograph in a book, even one like ours. This book is NOT being published commercially, it is only being printed privately by the Cathedral. It will NOT be sold in local bookstores, in national book chains, like Barnes & Nobel or Borders, nor will it be sold through Internet booksellers such as Amazon.com. The printing run will NOT exceed 5,000 copies. The printing of the book has been made possible by donations, so the book is being distributed free of charge to all members of the Cathedral. In the future, it will be given without charge to new members who join the parish as part of their orientation. We will sell copies of the book from our Gift Shop, (I am fairly certain that at $40 per copy, we won't sell many,) but the proceeds of those sales will go to the Discretionary Fund of the Dean of the Cathedral, to be used in the relief of the poor and homeless in Kansas City. We are a downtown church, and are engaged in feeding the homeless and needy a free, hot, nourishing meal each week day at noon. Currently, we serve over 600 people each week day. (The Catholic Cathedral, which is located two blocks North of us, serves a sack lunch on the weekends.) I hope it is acceptable for me to use your photograph of the Hecker mansion as an illustration in the chapter on the Cathedra. I also plan to slightly crop the photograph and to photoshop out the car parked in front of the mansion. If you provide me with an e-mail address, I will send the altered photograph to you for approval. Also, if you will provide me with your mailing address, I will send you a complimentary copy of the book. Please feel free to contact me privately, my e-mail address is RandalJLoy@gmail.com. I'd guess that you don't get to DC very often - but if you did get there and didn't know about this little project, I'd never forgive myself. You could certainly help eliminate the red-links in any case. Please take a look and any help would be appreciated.

Holy Redeemer photo

Greetings Andrew. For some reason, this photo of Holy Redeemer Church has recently started to appear sideways. Its a very good photo. Is there a way to fix it? Don't see anything in the history? Its right side up for the full resolution version, when you click on it, but the displayed version is sideways for some reason? Appreciate all your photos and articles. Thanks.Thomas Paine1776 (talk) 19:00, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

Penobscot building annex photo

Was adding photos to List of tallest buildings in Detroit for each tall building and noticed that the photo for Penobscot Building Annex is sized quite large and appears out of place on the list. Is way reduce the photo to make it more user friendly? Thomas Paine1776 (talk) 17:04, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Tireless Contributor Barnstar

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
For all of your work taking excellent images and writing articles for nearly all listings on the National Register of Historic Places in Upper Michigan, I hereby award you the Tireless Contributor Barnstar. I am especially impressed how you spent the time to start quality articles using many sources. You didn't cut corners by starting stub articles with little real content. Wayne County Road Commission

I wonder if you could contribute to Wayne County Road Commission article. I think it is a valid topic worth developing more, but I am unfamiliar with the Michigan roadways and think it would be better for others with local knowledge to develop it. There is a merger proposal ongoing to cut it down and report just summary info within Wayne County article. Your interest would be welcomed by me. If you comment at the merger proposal, please indicate it was by invitation of me that you got involved, as a courtesy. Thanks for considering, either way. Cheers, --doncram 11:54, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
