Retrieval of deleted page

I placed a db template on the article Hellfire Sermons and the creator (User:Andy Ford) would like me to put the page in his user space so he can improve it (see User talk:Andy Ford and User talk:JohnnyMrNinja#hellfire sermons). Of course, I can't do this, as I'm not a sysop. Would you mind? Thanks ~ JohnnyMrNinja 17:43, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again! ~ JohnnyMrNinja 23:03, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Hellfire Sermons

Thanks then Andrew - your advice is actually quite constructive - so it would appear that what is required is to plentifully reference the article. Thats OK, no problem, but I still worry that these 'deletionists' are actually harming Wikipedia - there is surely no harm in it containing too much obscure info. And just going around deleting articles is just not friendly, open or helpful - why not start by advising??? Regards Andy Ford 23:43, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Cheers Andrew, I have now found the User page.

Heart failure

I do not understand why you have repeatedly removed a piece of content from heart failure only because it was once referenced to a WebMD page. As you will have seen in the discussion on the ClinMed talk page, there is no need to remove the content (as per WP:ATT). I reverted you for good reason, and am somewhat annoyed that you could not follow this up with reasonable discussion instead. JFW | T@lk 00:36, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Andrew - FWIW- I think your first instinct was right, about speedy delete of the Clinton nutcracker image. I was just looking for an admin to ask about how to get that started when I saw your edit. I think it is politically motivated vandalism, and I've removed it from 2 pages. It's also on the user page of the uploader, but I didn't know how to handle that - so I'll leave it in your hands. Tvoz |talk 02:36, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Categories again

Andrew, thanks for your detailed response to my request for help with categories. I feel badly, as I phrased my Q poorly, and you answered at great length about how to delete a category globally.

Alas, I had another issue in mind. At the end of articles I read, I sometimes see inappropriate categories. I don't want to delete them globally but just in that article. Yet, usually I don't find an editable category field at the end of an article. Is there a secret door to enter or spell to utter? Bellagio99 22:52, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your advice on my user page. When I encounter the problem again, I will provide a concrete example. Till then, WikiOn, dude! Bellagio99 23:08, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Transclusion

Andrew, thanks also for a new word: "transclusion". At first, I thought it was related to "transubstantiation" or "transcendental," just by the sound of it and your User Page interests. Was I surprised? OTOH, having once written a paper, called "The Immanent Internet", I can see that one piece of prose (or image) "lives" within another. So there is a metaphysical connection! Request for mediation

A request for mediation has been filed with the Mediation Committee that lists you as a party. The Mediation Committee requires that all parties listed in a mediation must be notified of the mediation. Please review the request at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Jesus, and indicate whether you agree or disagree to mediation. If you are unfamiliar with mediation on Wikipedia, please refer to Wikipedia:Mediation. Please note there is a seven-day time limit on all parties responding to the request with their agreement or disagreement to mediation.

For the Mediation Committee, Daniel 07:57, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
PS: I added your name to the party list because you contributed substantially to recent discussion on the date topics at Talk:Jesus. As I noted here, if I misjudged your involvement in this content dispute, please feel free to remove your name from the list. If you are involved substantially however do not wish to agree to mediation, feel free to follow the normal course of action and note your disagreement in the relevant section of Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Jesus. Cheers, Daniel 07:57, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Andrew as you are now aware of the mediation request, please remember to formally agree or disagree with it. John Smith's 16:06, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

NOR

Hi Andrew, There has been a big debate over this policy. I think you have valuable experience that makes you an important interlocutor on this matter. I suggest you forst go here for a very concise account, and then depending on how much time you have read over the WP:NOR policy and the edit conflicts that led to its being protected, or the last talk to be archived ... or just go straight to the talk page. I wondered about protecting them before but thought it best not to. My feeling is that it's better to keep blocking the changing IPs than have them move onto some other articles and their vandalism get missed. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 17:20, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Jinfengopteryx wiki.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Jinfengopteryx wiki.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Sidewalk counseling

Andrew, thank you for the edit to the List of counseling topics. You have alerted me to the possibility there are other very different uses of counseling than in the list. Are you aware of any others apart from legal and disciplinary (council) uses?--Ziji (talk email) 23:35, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

I'm afraid not. I glanced through the list and it seems alright, thought I think the spiritual types of counseling could have either a separate section, or different article altogether. Does Life coaching belong on the list? -Andrew c [talk] 00:11, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
The whole coaching mentoring genre ought to be included and I will do so. There are fascinating boundary issues between psychotherapy, counselling, coaching and mentoring, which are blurring applications within each field. I started the list as a beginning to create some differentiation of the fields, so thank you for remininding me to capture those blurred areas.--Ziji (talk email) 00:17, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Conflcit of Interest

Andrew, your advice to Christopher russo, to discuss his contributions to the Crisis Pregnancy Center article on its Talk page, is good. However, you should not have blocked him, because you are an active editor of the article, so you have a conflict of interest in the matter.

Burger King Products article

In regards to your post on my talk page: yes I did cut and paste the lower portion of the article from another source, but from the the main article itself not a Google cache or mirror. The information from the deleted article (List of Burger King menu items) was merged back into BK article after the request for deletion. When the Burger king article grew past the 50 KB limit and I sliced BK menu items section and the BK Advertising section out and created the current two articles.

As to the line break issue, I do not know what you are referring to.

As for the entire top half of the article, I pretty much added the top half in the past 30-90 days. I made sure to properly cite any sources I used. I do not understand where you are getting that the whole article is the same as the original one that was merged and deleted.

As such your addition of the tag that states it was deleted in January is incorrect. Please remove it.

Overlinking vandal

I'm all for that. I tried contacting them and messages in the page but nothing seems to work. I've been blocking each IP as I see them for a week but a range block would probably be better. I've never made one and from what I remember the instructions look confusing. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 22:37, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

I agree with any range block as well. CambridgeBayWeather, myself, occasionally Yamla, and a few other users have been reverting (or blocking, if it's one of the admins dealing with the vandal who does a revert) the overlinking vandal for the past month/two months. The histories of a group of pages contain hardly any good edits, and are filled with overlinking vandalism, and the reverts. Page protection, as you, and CambridgeBayWeather, said, wouldn't work, as the vandal would probably go elsewhere. It's actually become extremely annoying. Also, I haven't seen any constructive edits from that IP range either; just overlinking vandalism. Acalamari 22:43, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
  • You're welcome; that was a good decision too, the range block. I'll go see the report to AN soon. Acalamari 23:06, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. With a bit of luck that should stop them for a while. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 23:26, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Oriental Orthodoxy

Hi, I must say I'm coming round to your view a bit after the CfR close on this, as I actually try to implement! I might have voted the other way if I'd known. Anyway, it's a lot tidier and better now (I just need them to stop their template adding a cat!), & I was pruning drasticly by filling up Category:Eastern liturgy - every addition cutting 3-8 unneeded cats, when I saw it was a recent creation of yours - excellent idea! Loads more to go in. Cheers Johnbod 20:14, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Is U of C "research" really an editorial?

Can you please check out the claim being made by Brobbins here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Post-abortion_syndrome#Problems_with_Representation_of_Empirical_Studies. I don’t have access to the article, but Brobbins states that it is an editorial. If that is correct, then its use on the abortion page needs a bit of revision. Image Deletion

I made the page for (Samsara (band)|Samsara), recieved permission from the band for the picture and it was still deleted. I understand that the license I gave probably didn't explain this, so I was just curious as to the best way of writing the license so that this does not happen again? Tim Byrnes 01:13, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Please do not revert this page again. I have blocked the IP for edit warring, but you have also broken the 3 revert rule. The only reason you are not blocked yourself is because you have not been warned, but you should really know better. Please try not to edit war in the future. Ryan Postlethwaite 15:04, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

OK, sorry, you've reverted 3 times in the last 24 hours. However, 4 times in the last 35 hours, maybe you technically haven't broken the 3 revert rules, but still, you should know it's not good to make that many reverts to an article in such a short period of time. That said, I've reverted back to your revision as the last edit to the article is what got the IP blocked for 24 hours. Ryan Postlethwaite 15:18, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

the higher criticism

There used to be an article titled "higher criticism" but it got trashed and then renamed. Looking for information on the higher criticism, I got redirected to an article that was very bad, and so I began work on it. This is still very much a "work in progress" and I need to do a lot more research. Help is always appreciated.

As for the title of the article, for some reason every source I've found calls the subject "the higher criticism" rather than just plain "higher criticism". I think it's like "The Wild Bunch", part of a name. On the other hand, I have no strong feeling one way or the other. Calling the article just "higher criticism" would certainly avoid a lot of redirects. Rick Norwood 18:19, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

It's even a bigger mess than you have discovered, because there are several, maybe half a dozen, very short articles with unscholarly titles all on the subject of Bible criticism. I've nominated one of the most content free for deletion, and others could be usefully combined. The more I dig into this, the more I discover that I've really opened up a jar of worms. On the other hand, I'm learning some interesting stuff, so I guess that's ok. I hope we can work together and coordiate our efforts on this. Rick Norwood 20:20, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

re P4

Thanks Andrew c. Your expansion has greatly improved on my original. Mercury543210 23:08, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi. When I used the word "need" I was referring to the function of putting things in the curly brackets related to the template namespace. In order for {{User Vexillology}} to do anything, it would need to be in the template namespace. I expanded a bit on userbox guideline interpretations, but I don't think this one should be required to be in userspace. It's useful and non-divisive. Leebo T/C 03:02, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Hebrew Gospel of Matthew

There's a bit of a problem with the last sentence of the introduction of Hebrew Gospel of Matthew. Your version of the sentence seems to ignore, or miscategorize, or deny the existence of, these sets of scholars: (a) those who believe that the autograph was in Hebrew, and early Christians translated it into Greek, and Shem-Tov et al. are descendants of that early Greek translation; (b) those who believe that the autograph was in Greek, and early Christians translated it into Hebrew, and Shem-Tov et al. are descendants of that early Hebrew translation; (c) those who believe that the original author wrote in both Greek and Hebrew, and Shem-Tov et al. are descendants of the Greek autograph; et cetera.

My version of the sentence was phrased to account for all those possibilities. It is possible to believe in Greek primacy, and simultaneously believe that Shem-Tov is descended from 2nd-century Hebrew manuscripts. It is also possible to believe in Aramaic/Hebrew primacy, and simultaneously believe that Shem-Tov is descended from 14th-century Latin manuscripts. Can you think of a good way to address this problem? -- 70.171.6.98 14:49, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, stupidly I didn't look at the apostrophe article before commenting ehre, and my main focus was trying to sort out the quotes which previous edits had messed up, so I forgot to double check if I'd got all of them. About the Historical Jesus article

Andrew c.

Thank you for the Welcome on my talk page.

I was surprised to find that you had removed my interpolation on the Historical Jesus article.

The header assumes the point of the article and is therefore not informative. Identifying the perspective from which the article is written is paramount. My addition was simply to inform the reader.

By not informing the reader of the basis of this article, doesn’t it therefore become nothing more than personal opinion or an unbalanced argument? As such, does this represent a neutral point of view?

Because I am relatively new to the world of Wiki-entry, and a bit slow, it may take me some time to get it right. What would you think about adding the following to the article itself right after the first sentence?

“These Historical methods use critical analysis of Gospel texts as the primary source for the biography of Jesus, along with non-biblical sources to reconstruct the historical context of first-century Judea.”

The reason I want to add this is because the methods used are not explicit. Have you considered adding the "unbalanced" box below to the top of the article to alert the reader.

{{Unbalanced}}

I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Thank you, Theseos 14:59, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Hey Andrew c,

I jumped in and edited the links before I saw that you had changed them. The ones I had put in did not really fit. Thank you for fixing those for me - I have changed them to be a bit more specific . I am also searching for primary source references for "non-biblical" that I can put in as footnotes.

Thanks, Theseos 20:31, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
