How to handle Speedy Deletion tags[edit]

Please don't remove a speedy deletion notice from a page you have created yourself, instead, you should place the {{hangon}} tag on the article, leave the copyrighted text out, and explain on the talk page how you intend to create a non-violating article.- Sinneed 20:18, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Assuming good faith[edit]

I have removed the copy violation tag and restored the content. Please understand the honest mistake (as explained on my talk page). With the information I had, it looked like a copy and paste. I cannot find that text anywhere else. The subject appears to be notable, but I am not expert. Please add to the article and I will assist you in any way I can.

Angika[edit]

Please have a look at the talk page. As I said before, all languages are equally old. Instead of repeating the old nonsense about language X being older than all or most others, you might supply information about the language. That would be useful. PS:Try to improve the article, if you have the knowledge. I doubt it, since you didn't even know the meaning of archaic. But the article is a mess, and gives almost no worthwhile information. And while I'm at it, those with a vested interest, like in this case, are much more suspicious sources than professional linguists. Its clearly politics vs. scholarship, and you are on the side of politics. (Any good dictionary will give you the definition of "scholarship".) But as for me, I'm getting bored with this thing. Speakers of Maithili[edit]

Ethnologue has been known to make errors. But census results are usually not reliable in a multilingual country such as India. For instance, if there is a multilingual community, and one or more languages have a higher social status than the others, then it is a known fact, that many of those questioned will name the language with higher prestige. This is a universal phenomenon. In addition, Indian statistics are not famous for being reliable. Nobody really knows how many languages there are. It all depends on what you call a language and what you call a dialect. To mention two of the best known examples, the nordic languages Danish, Swedish and Norwegian might just as well be called dialects - they are all mutually understandable to a greater or lesser degree. But each one is a national language (Norway actually has two), so they are called languages. On the other hand we have the Chinese "dialects", where each dialect is a language since mutual understanding is zero. Both cases are politically motivated and I suspect that this is the case with many Indian languages as well.

Come on, somebody wondered whether Angika had something to do with Mon-Khmer!!!

And contrary to what you claim with the "oldest" balderdash, I seem to recall that the first film in Angika came out in 2007. Angika has apparently been a well kept secret. All the best Io (talk) 19:10, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Read a well constructed language article. You might learn how to set these up. The article itself, regardless of number of speakers is horrible. You learn almost nothing about the language.

PS:Even if the numbers are askew, then the difference between Ethnologue's seven hundred thousand and something speakers of Angika and the articles number of 30 million is too great to be a simple miscount. I see no other solution than that you have collected all the Bihari languages and called them Angika. All the best Io (talk) 19:26, 10 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again[edit]

Sorry to break my promise not to bother you again, but this is in the spirit of friendship. It occurred to me to mention that I am a layman too in linguistics. Languages are just a hobby of mine. Neither do I consider myself to be the most learned, wise or intelligent person on Earth. If I was rude, I apologize. But you did mention notable contributions. The Angika article is not notable as it is. The best way to write a good article is usually to find a good article and imitate that. So, again in the spirit of friendship, I would like to point out the article on Sanskrit. Of course there are a number of other good language articles, but in the context of India, Sanskrit was the first that occurred to me. It is well structured and worth following. Note especially what is mentioned and as importantly, what is left out. If you have a grammar of Angika, you can hardly go wrong. And with that, I wish you all the best, will leave you in peace, apologize again and hope to find a good article in a couple of months time. Cheerio Io (talk) 15:51, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

PS:If you want to see and criticize an article written almost entirely by me, I can unfortunately only refer to the Danish article on the Icelandic language. It is long and has a number of articles attached to it. The references with a magnifying glass and the text Uddybende artikel means the same as the Main article reference so often seen in the English Wikipedia. Take a look and criticize at will. I assume you don't speak Danish, but the look and feel should give an idea. If you follow the main articles, you'll see, for instance, that I have a tendency to give a lot of inflectional examples. Unfortunately the project is only half-finished, but I'll find the time someday. So give me your best shot. :-) I'm not showing you this to boast. There are many things in that article that need polishing.
And now I'll leave you to your task of writing about Angika. I would be very interested in seeing an outline of its grammar to name an example. Best regards Io (talk) 16:58, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
