Inserting Assamese texts[edit]

Please stop inserting Assamese texts in the English wikipedia. Assamese texts make the English texts less legible for non-Assamese readers. Instead, please contribute on as.wikipedia.org. Thanks.

Kindly read the news papers details before editing. Thank you! And also kindly read the govt website of JMC and rest we have also provided the tourism website and many website of govt dept claiming Jorhat as the 2nd major city of Assam. Thank you! Hardeep111 (talk) 16:55, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

And everyone knows importance of Jorhat. It has second highest number of shoppings malls and departmental stores in north east. It's having everything whatever guwahati has in development wise... Thank you Hardeep111 (talk) 16:57, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have read the articles but newspaper write-ups and arbitrary websites that may mention a view can't be stated as a fact, and hence WP:SYNTHESIS. Persistent edits from random IP addresses to reinforce a view is an act of WP:VANDAL. You should qualify your claim by providing an official release from Government websites/notices from where we can infer rankings based on industrial, developmental grounds, and that would pass WP:NOTE guidelines. Every other place has an importance of their own, let Jorhat alone! Promoting a place based on a POV without citing sources that don't pass WP:NOTE guidelines is not allowed. It is not a blog where you or I can put what we feel, but what relative statistics say instead. Jorhat like many other urban centres has a different industrial developmental index. Shopping centres are not markers to indicate how developed or underdeveloped a place is. And your claim that it has the highest number of shopping centres should again be substantiated with reliable sources where that has been stated. Come back with sources, changes will be entertained.

AnjanBorah (talk) 18:08, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey! Why the hell are you removing the list of shopping Malls and departmental stores? Can’t to see we have provided the link with each and every shopping mall in Jorhat to check where it’s located and to check whether it’s true or false. How can you remove the list of malls and departmental stores ? Who gave you the right? We have all the proper sources. We will be complaining to the DC of Jorhat regarding your account as your unnecessarily deleting the correct informations. Just wait. Thank you indeed! Hardeep Delhi (talk) 17:52, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, this space is not your personal notepad to leave random notes.
Secondly, it is important to know Wikipedia, as communicating with editors in a disrespecting tone is a violation of WP:EQ.
Using words like "departmental" and "informations" that do not appear in English vocabulary, suggest that you either do not speak or understand English, and therefore, would recommend you to try and understand Wikipedia policies in your language version instead. The fact that you are repetitively reverting the changes makes it more obvious that you lack the ability to understand the message that has been communicated in the edit history. Wikipedia is not a travelogue or a directory for you or me to include a list of shops, stores, shopping centres with addresses or otherwise in articles on places. Inclusion of such lists is a direct violation of WP:NOTDIRECTORY. The same reason why me and Adamstraw99 have been removing these lists. If you are unable to familiarise yourself with WP:NOTDIRECTORY policies in English, please seek the appropriate translations in a language that you understand. Furthermore, creating multiple accounts to reinforce a message that is not only violating policies but disregarding editor's comments qualifies you for WP:PUPPET. Jorhat article has a lot of crap, and requires a lot of clean-up! Not all contributions from users are considered valuable, unless they are meaningful! The article has a lot of WP:SYNTHESIS, and disruptive edits to include useless, let alone information violating policies from rookie editors like you, make it even more difficult to keep the article relevant. Jorhat is not only "the place" where there has been some mediocre economic progress, so, including useless material forcefully must be avoided!
FYI, Jakarta has more than 170 proper shopping centres instead of department or supermarket stores that you you have been listing in the Jorhat article, but even then listing them will be a violation of the said policy!
Thirdly, do not make legal threats! While we all have the right to ensure Wikipedia articles are meaningful, conforming to its policies, you have absolutely no right to make threats, and by doing so, you violate the WP:THREAT policy!
Lastly, I will have to raise a sockpuppetry request because of your multiple accounts, let alone disruptive edits and acts of WP:VANDAL, besides requesting an admin to intervene to blacklist your IP. AnjanBorah (talk) 22:52, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Don't remove comment / reply[edit]

@সম্পাদক খিলঞ্জীয়া: It was removed in error while trying to reply to your comment. Be patient, and please do not jump to conclusions so quickly. Thanks for the pointers, however, as relatively an older Wiki user than you, I am aware of them; therefore, you know it, patience it the key! AnjanBorah (talk) 02:45, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Assam History[edit]

@AnjanBorah:, what is the source of the emblem? I think a historical artifact (building, object) would be more appropriate. The Rang ghar is an enduring symbol of Assam's history. Or the Kamarupa seals. Chaipau (talk) 15:27, 9 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Chaipau,
I just found it on Commons and apparently it is the new emblem of Assam government based on the description by the uploader. I have used that image keeping in-line with the Karnataka History, although not a fan of this new emblem, I must admit! Can't get my head around why peacock feathers when the state bird is duck (clearly not much was thought through when it was designed!)! Maybe they could have just encircled the seal with foxtail orchid to make it Assam-centric, which except for the rhinos on either side, is just a very plain generic emblem, lacking meaning and relevance!
Nevertheless, I do agree having a different artifact would be appropriate! But not quite sure which one, unless we create a montage depicting important Assamese symbols (objects/architecture). Rang ghar or something else might be good but then you may have editors who might disagree to the image as it could be a representative of one ruling dynasty/community rather than of entire Assam. Much like the recent editor who has changed Sutiya to Chutia just to align it with the incorrect romanisation (which in his/her view is correct!?), when we all know that a spelling starting with S or C not followed by h (for চু) and ending with ya (for য়া) can only be the most nearest phonetic approximation for the word "চুতীয়া".
So in my view, a montage of different symbols (primarily, building architecture), such as Kamakhya + Sonitpur + Rang ghar + a colonial building covering all historical phases would work best. I will try an create one and see if that would work, but in any case, open to suggestions and changes. Thank you. AnjanBorah (talk) 20:14, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I think someone made some obscene amount of money designing that emblem for the Assam Govt. In any case, it is hideous
Here is an example of a good picture: The Nagajari-Khanikargaon rock inscription[1] The picture is relatively good, and it is so further back in time that there can be no push and pull.
Chaipau (talk) 20:49, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks! This one looks good, will include this in the template. That said, I will still try and create a montage to see how I get on. If works, will place it in the Commons to be used here or elsewhere. AnjanBorah (talk) 20:58, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, you have done it already! Looks good to me! Thanks, Chaipau! AnjanBorah (talk) 21:01, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I thought it looked better too. If you are interested in making a montage, could you attempt at making one for Culture of Assam. It has very little ethnic group representations. Chaipau (talk) 21:05, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Will try, need to source high quality images first to make into a montage. Not a graphic designer here, still prefer a good output. AnjanBorah (talk) 21:14, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently, non-free are not allowed in Templates. They have removed it. Let me look around for any other free image. Chaipau (talk) 23:41, 10 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

So I can see! What about this? AnjanBorah (talk) 02:46, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think this is from Assam Chaipau (talk) 03:37, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Add new map of covid19 of Assam[edit]

The map of confirmed cases of Covid19 of Assam is a old map. New map contains 33 districts. Please add a new map of Assam and add districts with confirmed cases. Goswami666 (talk) 13:55, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Goswami666: Sorry, I've not been contributing lately, however, I do see one of the maps have been recently updated. I will reach out to the contributor to update the other relevant maps referenced in the article which are out of date.
Meanwhile, I have updated the info-box and the table layout for the coronavirus zones. I would request you to keep the contents sorted alphabetically (I have done it for now!). That whole section needs updating as it doesn't reflect the current infection trend, esp., the trends in Guwahati and Golaghat. It would be better to take it off for now and reinstate when the updated zones are listed, however, I have kept it for now with the Update tag.
Thanks! AnjanBorah (talk) 20:25, 30 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As for maps, I've updated the second one showing districts with Covid-19 mortalities.  Done AnjanBorah (talk) 03:19, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

Can you add more images, if possible in covid19 Assam wiki page Goswami666 (talk) 21:34, 30 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Goswami666: as informed on Commons, I unable to source new images.
What we have is good enough for illustrative purposes. Please view the page on a computer and you will see that the current layout format with images is good, although the content may need to revised to keep it in-line with Wiki standards. AnjanBorah (talk) 03:19, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Covid Assam[edit]

Can you look into the matter of anomalies in the official website of Assam covid19 dashboard, if you see the data given by Assam health minister in his recent interviews, you will see every time it doesn't match with the official website (Dashboard). See this for instance; [2] Goswami666 (talk) 12:47, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Goswami666: Apologies for a late response! I am taking a break from Wiki so I login sporadically. Please reach out to someone else, if not clarified yet. Thanks.
