How you can help

Hi there. Thank you for starting this article. The material you have provided is interesting, and Mr Weller himself is obviously an appropriate subject for a Wikipedia article as he easily satisfies the inclusion guidelines at Wikipedia:Notability and Wikipedia:Verifiability. However, I notice that you've been routinely removing all other contributors' edits to this article, and reverting to your own preferred version. This includes a recent removal of issue tags, without addressing any of the issues raised in them.

Wikipedia has various editing conventions and guidelines to do with style and content in articles, and other contributors, including the user who tagged the article, appear to have been making good faith attempts to bring George Weller more into line with them. To give just one example, the citations in the text do not conform to an accepted Wikipedia style (see Wikipedia:Citing sources for more information), but when another user attempted to reformat them correctly, you reverted their edit without any explanation in the edit summary.

The article as it stands has multiple issues, but it is an excellent basis for a Wikipedia article and, with work, could potentially attain Good Article status, or perhaps even become a Featured Article. It is important that other editors are able to help improve it without their contributions being automatically discarded - no user, even the original creator, has any special rights over an article once it has been published here (see WP:OWN, and everyone is free to edit it. Improvement is pursued via consensus, with discussion on the article's talk page where differing opinions arise. It may also be helpful for you to read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, since the article appears to concern a close relative of yours: this does not necessarily mean you are not welcome to add material on the subject, and indeed I hope you do. Do you for instance have an image of Mr Weller you could release under the GFDL so it could be used to illustrate the article? But what you add should be written from a neutral point of view and should conform to guidelines on style and content, If it does not, then others are free to edit it, and simply reverting their contributions is not really acceptable.

I have replaced the issue tags you deleted, and would be happy to assist with improving the article so they can eventually be removed. I'm sorry this is a long note, but I hope you will take it in the spirit in which it is written, and will collaborate with others to help make George Weller a really good, encyclopaedic Wikipedia article. Please feel free to respond here if you wish, or to drop me a note on my talk page if you prefer. With best wishes, Karenjc 17:33, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
