Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Annalynnehurtgen. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you.  —SMALLJIM  22:17, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Levry Joseph Michael.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Levry Joseph Michael.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 05:06, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

--Annalynnehurtgen (talk) 18:58, 1 April 2015 (UTC)thank you, I will do that! We are currently getting a permission letter also, just in case, to use this photo, I have contacted the wikimedia permissions page on how to do that. Dr. Levry himself has authorized this photo, which he had made himself and only allows to be published in certain locations. It is very important that his picture be shown because Levry's spiritual name is "Gurunam" by which thousands of people know him and there is a problem that there are also hundreds of people named "Gurunam" probably all over the world. So Levry had to give direct permission to use his photo so that people do not confuse him with the white-bearded people named Gurunam.[reply]

File permission problem with File:ShriBalMukandSingh.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:ShriBalMukandSingh.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. --Annalynnehurtgen (talk) 23:48, 2 April 2015 (UTC)Question---I need to validate Joseph Michael Levry's education, can I request that from his schools and have it sent to the permissions address? The best way to do this would be put {{requested edit}} on the talk page, with reliable sourcing showing that this is where he was educating. I dream of horses If you reply here, please ping me by adding {{U|I dream of horses}} to your message. @ 02:00, 3 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Indira Gandhi yoga letter.pdf

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Indira Gandhi yoga letter.pdf. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Levry again

[edit]

--Annalynnehurtgen (talk) 22:44, 4 April 2015 (UTC)thank you for your help! Anyone would have to be slightly interested in their topic to want to write about it, that does not make them "closely involved". thank you for your help and guidance.[reply]

Hello! I see you're still bashing away at the Joseph Michael Levry article. In future, can I recommend that you use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made, reduces edit conflicts, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history.

Can I also remind you again of the conflict of interest policy as set out above. You really do have to try hard to keep your edits neutral. For instance, I've just noted this

...Baba Virsa Singh of New Delhi India, who many consider to be a saint of biblical proportions, who inspired him to...

which you added at some time today. This is not acceptable in an encyclopedia entry for at least two reasons. Firstly it uses the weasel phrase "many consider"; and secondly it appears to be subtly promoting Levry: "Wow - he was inspired by a saint!".

You may also find it useful to read our guide on writing better articles. I hope this helps,  —SMALLJIM  20:31, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you SMALLJIM, i changed the wording as per your directions regarding the "saint" business. And I will use the show preview button from now on, sorry for clogging up the system!
You know, I noticed that I seem to be trying harder than a lot of other authors of other pages to validate things. Just from a viewpoint of fairness, for instance, the Deepak Chopra page lists his education and does not ask him to cite it and they asked us to cite in on the Levry page. Also, the Iyengar yoga page has only four references. The Dhirendra Brahmachari page doesn't even include all of the beautiful legacy he left to humanity through yoga. It is important to me to support all yogis/yogic schools properly on Wikipedia because their founders are often very humble and rely on people who have benefitted health wise over many many years to write things about their life work, and just because they are not very public, like Deepak Chopra, Bill Clintion, Willie Nelson, for example, doesn't mean that they do not deserve to be there and have not had a profound impact on humanity. I am very grateful to wikipedia for helping me to build up on the Levry page. I want it to be very authentic and validated. Thank you for your help and guidance! I look forward to future helpful guidance-anna --Annalynnehurtgen (talk) 21:06, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The real problem is that you are clearly closely involved with Naam yoga and, as the conflict of interest policy page sets out, that makes it hard for you to write about the topic from the neutral point of view that is required in Wikipedia. If I had the inclination and a lot of time, I could help you improve the article towards Good Article status, which is what everyone editing here in good faith wants. But, to be honest, I'm not interested enough in the topic to spend much time on it, which explains my patchy attempts to improve it and help you. Sorry for that.
I have two suggestions that might help. One: stop editing the article for now and spend some time reading up on our guidelines and policies so that you can learn to use the dispassionate style of language we use here and understand the need for sources that are independent of the subject. Two: ask for help from others. There are a number of editors here who specialise in helping new editors. A good place to start would be The Teahouse.
I suppose editing Wikipedia is a bit like learning yoga – it takes time to do it properly. Best,  —SMALLJIM  22:15, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Zocalonaamyogasuperclass2011.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Neutrality

[edit]

Your edits at Joseph Michael Levry do not adhere to Wikipedia's policy of neutrality. It is clear from your writing about him that you are associated with him or a big fan. In either case, your editing is inappropriate. Please try to maintain neutrality in your writing. Statements such as

Levry is a ... "Global Visionary"
Naam Yoga LA ... is a 501(c)3 non-for-profit organization whose mission resonates with Levry's vision of empowering people to improve their lives.
Levry’s work is a testament to the core principles of Universal Kabbalah that he teaches.

even if cited, are non-neutral. At best, we could include a statement that those opinions had been expressed about him, with a mention of who made the statements, but including the statements as facts in the article is inappropriate. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:55, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
