File permission problem with File:K D Singh an Indian Politician.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:K D Singh an Indian Politician.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. January (talk) 19:12, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anonymous 2108. I'm sure you've noticed that there are problems with the picture of Singh which you have linked to. I'm sure you have noticed it, because you've linked to it three or four times. Please take this request from User:January seriously, or the file will be deleted ~ again! In the description when you uploaded the file you have said that evidence of permission to use it "Will be provided on request". Both January and i are now requesting; please provide that evidence, so the file can be allowed to stay. If you look at the file here, you can see directions of how to provide the necessary evidence ...a link to a webpage with an explicit permission is provided, or an email from the copyright owner is sent or forwarded to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.... So, please, can you do or arrange for one of these to be done. Thank you,Cheers, LindsayHello 18:30, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Stop!![edit]

Please, stop! You are wrong. The word inside the parentheses is removing ambiguity about the subject of the article; it is called a disambiguator or a disambig for short. It should not be capitalised. Please do not continue to move the article to K.D. Singh (Politician); it should be (politician); do you see the difference? Thank you. Cheers, LindsayHello 07:09, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

September 2013[edit]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to K. D. Singh (Politician) may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • redirect=[[K.D. Singh (politician]]

Thanks, BracketBot (talk) 09:23, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(politician) instead of (Politician)[edit]

Understood the difference between the article to K.D. Singh (Politician)& (politician). Sure will keep it as (politician). However want to know can we keep it as K. D. Singh (politician). Space between K.[Space]D., I believe able to make you understand. Please reply.

OK; i had moved it to K.D. (no space) because i thought that was the standard usage (in the world in general, it does tend to be that way, i think); i have, however, just looked at two common examples and see that with the space might be better here. I cannot make the move for technical reasons (it requires an admin), but i'll do a spot more research and then ask someone to make the move. Cheers, LindsayHello 09:48, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, if you type ~~~~ at the end of your message on a talk page, wikimagic turns it into a signature (so everyone knows who says what). Like i'm about to...Cheers, LindsayHello 09:48, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Anonymous 2108 (talk) 09:54, 10 September 2013 (UTC) Thanks. Need to know one more thing if i want my article to be displayed with the name "K. D. Singh". Is it possible, perhaps i know it is quite difficult as article with same display name already present. And i have mad some changes can you please check those changes & let me know ' are they fine'. Thanks in advance. :)[reply]

Oh dear. You've messed it up again, i'm afraid. That is not the way to make a move. Please, leave the article alone right now, while i see if we can get an admin to repair the multiple moves and history mess we've managed to create. The issue is, that if you do a move the way you just did, the page history is wrong, and doesn't show who has done what, which is very important for Wikipedia, so we know who holds the copyrights. Make sense? Hold on a bit, please. Cheers, LindsayHello 09:58, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've made a request here, so i hope someone will be along to help us. Cheers, LindsayHello 10:06, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Anonymous 2108 (talk) 10:22, 10 September 2013 (UTC) Sure got it. Sorry for uncomfortable to you. However i have certain thing that i want to bring in you notice. Will help us in mutual understanding. 1. The final name that we are thinking to put article name is KD Singh (So it will remain unique, on perception this will not create disambiguation for article.) 2. There are some automatically back links on article that are for K. D. Singh (Hockey Player) (NOT ADDED BY ME). Those suppose not to be there as it will give wrong information. On following places: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kunwar_Digvijai_Singh ; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K._D._Singh_Babu; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Uttar_Pradesh/Uttar_Pradesh_news/Archive/2010/January (Portal:Uttar Pradesh/Uttar Pradesh news/Archive/2010/January #24 Jan)[reply]

Ok, a couple of admins put it together for us. Looks good now, right?
So, your other points
  1. KD Singh won't really work; it needs the full stops between the initials. The disambiguation is not a problem for anyone ~ in fact, it's a benefit, as it makes sure the reader gets to the correct person/article.
  2. I'll take a look at the backlinks/redirects.
  3. When you say "we are thinking..." what do you mean? You do understand, right, that an account (in this case User:Anonymous 2108) is only for one person? If there are more than one of you editing, you need to stop and get individual accounts, please and thank you.
  4. Finally, current talk page guidelines suggest that you sign your posts at the end of them, not the beginning. Also, if you can see, i'm indenting; if you indent one level further it becomes clearer who is responding to whom.
Cheers, LindsayHello 10:38, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Lindsay Thanks a lot. You found to be very helpful.
In concern to points
  1. Ok. So. K. D. Singh (politician) will work. However, I would also like you to refer to official blog where in bio it is written like KD Singh thats why i have asked for it. But what looks best to you will work for me. http://kdsinghblog.wordpress.com/
  2. Thanks for checking backlinks/redirects.
  3. No, oly i am the person who is editing article only as mutual concern taken advice of someone. There no one else involved.
  4. Learning more about it. Gone mad in love for wiki its amazing.

Once again thanks a lot.

Hello again. I've taken a look at the various redirects, and i think i've got them all and aimed them at the correct targets; you might like to take a look, when you get a minute, and see if i missed any.
You're quite right, WP is amazing, isn't it? I really enjoy just going around doing little bits of cleaning up when i can, and having the occasional interesting conversation, like this one. See you around, Cheers, LindsayHello 14:58, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Signature[edit]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. - David Biddulph (talk) 11:39, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
